Liked your video. One pointer, take your rig to a gravel pit with scales. Run with, and without the trailer.

What's funny is I have a 5X10 with 20' clearance that I pull with my 4Runner. I can stand in it but I'm short. Absolutely LOVE my set up but watched your build while building mine March 2021 to Sept 2021...but always improving on it!

At 1:38, the sentence described as "inaudible" sounds like "masz dwie godziny" in Polish, which means "you have two hours", which could, for example, be part of a conversation between the person who turned on the microphone and a third person.

Good stuff bud. Choosing the perfect trailer is impossible, as your needs vary based on where you camp, who you take, how far away you want to go. For longer trips, rough terrain trips, and lone wolf trips, your trailer is ideal. For trips with the family, you may find it cramped at times, but just keep telling everyone it's "cozy". And a bigger trailer may strain a Taco. From my experience, as I upgraded to bigger and fancier trailers, I often wished I still had my simple little trailer that served me so well. If it were my trailer, I might design a pop-up or flip-up roof system that would help standing height, as well as offer more sleeping space up top... when needed. I know some manufacturers offer them with well insulated fabrics for the cold weather. Might be just the trick for better utilizing an already bitchin camping space. Hug that chonk for us pal!

Thanks for the insight Matt! I have to agree, 80% of the time it's just me lone wolf trips. I love the idea of expandable "pop up design". The ideas are brewing! Thanks for watching

Hi Joel. In case you didnt know, CAT Scales allow you to re-weigh as many times as you need to do so with the same truck/trailer within a 24 hour period and the cost is like 2 dollars USD for each time. This would allow you to get a much more accurate weight of the trailer by weighing with and without the trailer connected. As you mentioned, you had to consider tongue weight in your estimate.. To figure true tongue weight you can use a bathroom scale. On yours you would actually use 2 or 3 (or more) bathroom scales with a board across them and the tongue sitting in the middle of the board. You would zero the scales or subtract the weight they total up and then weigh it. The total of all scales would be your tongue weight. You could also weigh the truck while making sure that your rear tires are on a seperate section of the cat scate and record you axle weights. Then re-weigh the whole thing and subtract your previous rear tire weight from the current weight.. You may have access to a gross weight scale that would weigh the whole thing. You could weigh the truck and then pull forward or backward far enough to get an axle off the scale to get axle weights. You can follow up with the trailer for its weight or a tounge weight if you measure properly. I am a recently retired truck driver and the company driver trainer. I made sure all my guys knew how to do this. The main thing I wanted you to know is that you can re-weigh for almost nothing within 24 hours of a first weigh. By the weigh, at least here in the US the first thing they ask is "FIrst weigh or re-weigh?" because we weigh in pounds. Question, why do you call it the Chuck Box?

Excellent information. Thanks for sharing, I did not know you can reweight for a cheaper price in 24 hours. The Chuck Box is a play on words or whatever you may call it. The trailer build was part of my final thesis project for my masters of architecture. The thesis is called "The Architectural Chuck Box". In short, I was inspired by the functions and form of an actual camp kitchen chuck box. Thanks for watching!

Kewl vid, Joel. Answered a few of my Qs, too. Since you have the trailer axle weight of 1440 lbs, all you need to do is stick a scale under the hitch ball coupler. It's probably around 200 lbs, I'm guessing, maybe more since you have your battery and electronics up front along with that ply cabinetry. I'm still working on my trailer... I'm gonna start dragging it around soon as I get the heater installed, then finish the rest as I go. I'm tired of heading out into the desert without it! lol

Great video Joel, I have a 6x12 ctc it weighs in at 3088 pounds trailer before conversion was 1300 pounds so I added 1788 pounds I have a tongue weight of 400 pounds well within the 10-15% range but I do use a weight dist hitch as I have a 350 pound tongue weight limit on my sienna minivan.

I would not significantly modify your current trailer, just start making a plan for the "next" trailer. Obviously you will be limited by the Tacoma, but I would recommend a dual axle for the next one. My understanding is that if you keep feeding those little ones, they keep getting bigger.

Also the fact he could turn around and fix the holes in the floor and sell it for around half that after all the usage he's gotten out of it... these hold their value for years for as a camper although perhaps better finished wouldn't hold up very well and wouldn't hold its resale value at all but would cost you twice this price for a similar-size
