Ansible - an absolute basic overview
Ғылым және технология
This is not intended to be a full tutorial - there are several of those out there when you’ve got the time. This is intended to let you sit down in front of somebody’s Ansible setup and have a rough idea of what’s going on in those strange directory layouts and file formats.
Update: It's worth noting that the video is a few years old now, and, while almost everything I still applies, some of the Ansible conventions have changed. In particular, a line like:
apt: update_cache=yes cache_valid_time=36000
would now more commonly be written as:
apt:
update_cache: yes
cache_valid_time: 36000
So you may notice a few changes in recent documentation, but this should still be a good introduction to the topic.

Hands down the best introduction to ansible I've seen. The internet would be a more productive place if every introduction tutorial was this good.

This was was great for me also, I wish more tutorials where like this! Keep it up!
"a rather strange tutorial"? is just perfect, thanks for sharing your time
Fantastic concise overview. Especially the "directory structure" part of the video, that clearly tells what the function of the main parts is for. Why on earth can't RedHat make an overview like this. They are overloading new users with details rather than a simple scope like this. Cheers! Just what I needed!
Never comment on videos but you deserve to know that you truly teach well. Thank you!
This is an absolutely fantastic video on Ansible, you shared many not-so-obvious things that other tutorials generally miss out on.. Thanks a bunch !
Thank you, the way you present information is amazing I've not seen many if any tutorials like this. I was saddened you didn't have more videos on this and other ops topics. I usually don't comment on tutorial videos but this is some high quality stuff. Hopefully you keep it up !
Dude I was pulling out my hair trying to find a good introduction video and out of nowhere I found this video.. You are doing god's work!
By far, the best overview of Ansible seen anywhere (google, safaribookonline, ansible docs). Many thanks Quentin
Clearly explains all the concepts and keywords in Ansible very nicely in a 20min video. I actually created a workshop based on your 20min video for the team I work with. Cheers.
Super useful, thank you very much :) Especially the file structure part, this is the first time I have a feeling of really understanding it, because how you explained it makes so much sense.
Wow that is a great tutorial. As already mentioned, the way you explain things is just remarkable. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks, exactly the level of detail I needed to get started, so many things just fell into place.
Quentin your explanation in this video presentation is more then Excellent and you have shown a flawless strategy to make Ansible very logical and easily catch-able understanding for any engineer in this world. i wish your this video definitely get tons of millions hits. Thanks !!!!

Your tutorial is awesome, +10 points to your soothing voice
thank you Quentin. One of the best intro to Ansible I've watched.
This tutorial may be "absolute basic", but it packs a fair amount of information into its concise 20 minutes. Well-organized, and presented in a very understandable way. You covered both how to do things, and how to make them more well-designed / modular / reusable. Quentin, you could totally do this sort of thing at conferences if you are interested. Thank you for sharing!
I loved your content and presentation, Wish I get to see more from you.
I never thought I could get this much of information in just 20 minutes.Excellent

Great video.
great tutorial !!
excellent video
Remarkable presentation! Well structured, simply worded, articulated and complete. For someone who's never used puppet, chef or other solutions it helps quite a bit. Would you be able to make another video clarify what's the difference between vagrant and ansible as the vast majority of tutorials present it as a mandatory bundle?
@quentinsf

Thanks for the kind words, Patrick! I have almost no experience of Vagrant, but my understanding is that it's a way of managing virtual machines; of setting them up before you deploy to them. I haven't used it because I tend just to need a small number of machines on VirtualBox on my local PC; either that or we're deploying to Amazon and we use Ansible to provision those directly using the Amazon APIs (and Ansible's built-in support). So I think of Vagrant as one of the ways of starting up lots of VMs, and Ansible as the thing you use to deploy software to them once they are running. But I know there can be more overlap than that in reality, if you want to use it.
Great video, thanks !
