Ansett F27 Flight VH-FNT circa 1980-81
Dora-9 Reports: This flight took place in 1980 or 1981 and was filmed by Rohan Craddock (his father was then a B727 captain; while Rohan was the Ansett visual media man). The pilots are, on the left the then Flight Capt (KP) and on the right the Asst Flight Capt (KW). The flight was specifically for filming purposes and was intended as part of a training film, though at the time this never saw the light of day.

Love the distinctive YOWL of the Darts when the F27 turns....
Nothing beats the sound of the F27

Was a flight attendant on the FH-227B in the late 70s.. Loved every minute of it, from the sound of the Darts to the kerosene smell permeating my uniform after a 5-day trip!
My father, Capt Ron Partridge flew these aircraft with Ansett. I sneaked a few minutes of left seat time with him in those years. Beautiful aircraft. All I have now is my FSX facsimile and happy memories.
Yes it was a great time flying domestic Australian flights. Ansett Airlines of Australia was part of my life since 1970s until permanent close down in 2002. A sad loss. Having flown as a passenger on a large number of Ansett's F27's and Boeing 727-277 Advanced including VH-RMO on this video has been a great to see this with high quality on KZread. Thanks Capn Bloggs. Ansett 727:)
The sounds are amazing. I'm lucky to have been born during the red Ansett and Blue TAA days. Those were the best days in aviation in Australia.

Same here. My mom’s vacuum sounded very similar too.
I love how it feels the power that transmit both aircraft when in the takeoff roll. This is the most exciting takeoff for an F27 ever seen.
absolutely FANTASTIC !! THAT NOISE !!! OMG ..
I loved the sound of the rolls royce dart engines.
Excellent. The shot of the props is recorded as a blurry disc, the way the eye sees it and the way it should be. Modern cameras tend to show such things with a strobe effect. The sound of the Darts is fantastic as well, brings back memories of the F27 and the Vickers Viscount.
I loved the sound. I flew on the F27 many times as a kid. My Dad worked for West Coast Airlines.
Nice to see what's happening in the cockpit and outside. The sounds bring back lots of memories of my "whistle pig". I love those things!
Thank you for the film. I flew in one in 1966 aged 15 from Mascot to Dubbo and return to compete in the NSW School Band Contest, my mother took a photo of me and my brother getting off the plane in our school uniforms, I still have the pic, a nice memory.
Great video. I love the sound of Rolls Royce dart engines on the F27 especially on engine start-up and on shut down.
That was great. The sound of the those typical whistling RR engines brings back memories of TAA Fokkers to Charleville in the 70'2 and 80's when I was teaching there.
Unlike the Vickers Viscount, the sound of the props is much more audible over the distinctive whine of the Rolls Royce Dart Engines. It seems that the Darts produce a louder jet whine than the Pratt & Whitney engines of the DeHaviland Dash-8, which I've flown on many times. In this video, they shut down the starboard engine, and restart it again in-flight.
This is an amazing piece of footage - love the inflight engine shutdown!
I have always liked the look of and the sound of these aircraft, and travelling in one was great, too, watching the landing gear going up and coming down with a neat rumbling sound.Wonderful!Miss seeing them now.
Loved seeing the Ansett B727-100 taking off. What a great aircraft. Aussie Bob
Beeeaaaautiful, just love that turbojet engines. So gorgeous!!!! Geez I so miss the great 'red' Anseett vs 'blue' TAA days.....
Great video. Truly enjoyed it....brought back good memories.
Lovely footage inside and outside. Takes me back to a flight with my mother (dec.) around forty four years ago from Tullamarine to Launceston. We went on a Pioneer bus tour around Tassie.
1st plane trip for me ever on one of these 1966 from Cobar to Sydney, thought it was such a big deal.
Excellent Video Rohan. Thanks for that..
Great video, thanks for the memories
Wow brings back memories!!! Fabulous little plane. Couldn't count how many times I've bumped along on one of these!
Wonderful Ansett. Always a great experience. So missed. Aussie Bob
Fantastic video. I remember all that stuff like it was yesterday. The sound of the Darts....amazing.
Ahhhh, the Whistle Pig...brings back many memories. That whistle remains in my heart.
Crikey, hearing those engines takes me back to 1970's Weipa, when we caught the Fokker to Cairns.
what an awesome video! anymore from this era Rohan?
My father flew this one during the mid 1970's, end of an era.
Interesting to note that as of 2016 this aircraft is was still flying as part of the Peruvian Coast Guard. Exactly 50 years after its first flight.
While taking off the Engine sound is so beautiful!
My first ever flight was in one of these. Adelaide to Kangaroo Island 1972.
Have great memories of flying on the Fokkers from Melbourne to Devonport!! 😄
I love this livery. As much as I loved the whithe Southern Cross livery I never thought it suited the Friendship.
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES FLYING TO MERIMBULA FROM SYDNEY ON THE F27
This brings back so many memories as a kid, every school holidays flying in one of these from Sydney to Coffs harbour & back. Does anyone remember the ones painted in yellow, we used to call them the banana planes....

I remember them Kieth, i grew up in Coffs. The screaming yellow banana plane use to pass over head every day.
Great video, good quality and nice editing.
Increíble silbido de los motores RR Dart , volé en Aeronor Chile .
Love the old RR Dart Engines
very nice iflew on a Air West F-27 a great airplane its my faveriet.
love the old ansett Fokker friendship . did you father flew with ansett pilot called peter barson . he was my grandfather.
The dart engine made a lot of noise. Between Mel and Syd they used to stop at Albury turn around and take off . Some tax dodge, cheap fares really for the 1st time in Australia
Yes I used go to boarding school in Brisbane and fly home to Mackay on a Fokker F27 went to boarding school 5 years, know the old Fokker.
We were in another world AN with F27 VH-FNT with Ansett and B727- 277 VH-RMO miss it. Ansett 727.
Looked like Gogs handling the GPU. Feathering prop for test flight.
the yokes look like something from the spruce goose era
How do you know an F27 is overloaded? The engines go past the cockpit and head up the runway by themselves. Those RR darts were serious power plants.
Modern-day airliners don't come close to the fun of flying on an FH-227B aircraft or a Convair 580 aircraft!
Does anyone know where the aircraft was flying to? I think most of the F27s used to fly to Devonport and Wynyard Tas from their Melbourne base but they probably did other destinations too but not sure....oh and Launceston I think they did with some Fokker Aircraft but more Jets.

Depends when the F 27 was used on Mel to Syd in 1963 & 64. Were used on intra state route like Mildura & Albury & Reg Ansett’s home town of Hamilton I think. Also Melbourne & Sydney to Canberra. Was the workhorse of country route for Ansett & TAA in the 70’s and 80’s. Ansett dumped them at the time of the Pilots Strike ( or Lock out ) of 1989.

@@beagle7622 yes that’s right. My Mums Uncle and Cousin worked for Ansett and Ansett pulled out of Wynyard during the pilot strike although their reason for pulling out was they were incurring heavy losses. They had already pulled out of Devonport about 6 months before. They were operating the Fokker 50s by then. The F50s still operated out of Sydney until the mid 90s doing Sydney to Albury, Sydney to Wagga, Sydney to Coffs Harbour, Sydney to Ballina then they gave the routes to Kendell which was owned by Ansett anyway.

@@mattlindsay6974 Until they took that good little airline & Hazleton too name 2 with them when they went broke. That whole time from 89 was a disaster for Australian Aviation. Two names wrecked that great company & others , Abeles & Murdoch.
Looks like a Check Flight for a new Captain although both seem to have 3 stripes? What’s the story here?
Darts man!!!...the most delightfully obnoxious engines ever made LOL....Just love the scream.
Musica para mis oidos.!!
A great plane. In the 70's flew in them in the Northern Territory. Alice / Tennant / Katherine/ Darwin. Called the milk run.
Ripper aeroplanes: F27 & B727. Good old days.
F27 Ansett Airlines of South Ausrtalia to and Mt Gambier and Whyalla full service we did this with flight deck visitis.
$78 each-way back in the day from Melbourne to Wynyard.

Yes, the inflight propeller feathering & engine shutdown (Rolls Royce Dart 532) was part of the test flight system checking procedures following major servicing & inspections. In this particular case, I suspect it was done for the camera.

Well done. I loved these little airliners. It was considered a luxury to fly in one & we couldn't afford to do it often but when we could they were a great part of my bush childhood memories. My brother even had a plastic Airfix model. I could have killed him for getting glue on the windows & stuffing up the decals. It's such a shame Ansett & TAA are long gone. The worst thing is that PM John Howard could've done something to save them but failed to act. Any way thanks for the memories.
Was a regular passenger on F27s Melb Essendon & Tulla to & from Mt. Gambier & occasionally Hamilton in Vic west. Morn the loss of regional airservices in Southern Australia in proper aircraft and airlines such as these, Friendships, Ansett in particular. They talk about advances airline services, but to me, it's all tripe. [ps.Half of a Per Cent of Every airline flight, Domestic & International would pay for the return of 'Proper' Regional once again!]

@@ansett7272 Thanks very much. Good to hear of your good fab experience & memories. I've not much time for QF. As a youth I 'haunted' Essendon biking as runway changed with wind. NEVER saw QF. They didn't see Melb's existence in those days. So, I have little sympathy for Q or even V although I naturally want flight to reopen sometime. Now I see REX in the mix albeit as a Regional (60agingSAABs) hoping for a lease of 5 A320' or 737 to do 'the golden triangle' esp Melb Syd. thanks again :-)

@@ansett7272 thanks again. I won't bore forever. But. At 17 I learnt to fly at Royal Vic DH-82's & Chip etc.did CPL, ATPL 1 to 4 theoretical, & re flying, paid for more & got ME, & IMC ratings etc.etc. Joined 'partime' RAAF Laverton 'Weekend Warriors' Squ21 Vampires, & okayed there. Only ever aspired for life as an Airline Pilot. Ansett Flight Manager accepted me, and though medicals weren't my downfall, I felt too nervous socially, so it was my call, thus life turned elsewhere. I keep up with all things aeronautical & travel (but not during virus) extensively & worldwide. ps. a relative who updates me, started via GA then Kendall SAAB's, Jetstar A320, then Widebody A330 about to go A350 on an internat carrier as Covid19 struck. ps.my first flight 1947 Ansett DC3 ex DST (real, not Dak or C47) to Mt Gambier return via Hamilton. @@letsseeif No not boring but interesting and I am similar involved in the airline industry since early 1970's with Ansett great memories. Sad it has now gone. I am old school loved the stability of a regulated airline industry. I never supported deregulation starting in USA 1978... experienced standards drop over time flying in the USA. Today I would never fly a US carrier sorry no disrespect! Early records on Super 8 silent film with compact cassette tape recordings. Ansett flights in 1982 on F27 sound recorded Rolls Royce Dart Engines. Just had a heat wave and a cool change. At Hamilton Airport Victoria, stopover stayed on board and sound recorded rain on the fuselage during shut down silence wow! Landing in Melbourne was wet but in Sydney it was still hot! Ansett 727.
