Anschutz 1727F RWS R50 Lot Testing: Best For The Best
After contacting Anschutz to understand what ammo they use to do their testing, they made it clear that RWS R50 was it.
This Anschutz 1727F is based on the Biathlon Rifles. As a matter of fact Peter Fortner who manufactures some of the most accurate rifles in the world in the international elite Biathlon competitors; the 1827 Biathlon rifle action. Is the same company who Anschutz partnered with to build this action.
We wanted to try and get the most out of this rifle by lot testing with high quality ammo RWS R50.

Great video. I’m just getting into benchrest and I just purchased the same rifle and had a chance to narrow down some brands (not specifically lots yet) over the first three range visits. Here are some of my results. Again new to 22LR rifles so don’t beat me up to bad. SK Rifle Match - .39 (15 five round groups) Lapua long range - .39 (10 five round groups) Eley Match - .42 (10 five round groups) SK Standard plus - .43 (34 five round groups) Eley Tenex - .52 (9 five round groups) CCI Greentag - .63 (9 five round groups) Eley Target - .64 (10 five round groups) Eley club - .64 (17 five round groups) Eley Semi Auto - .66 (8 five round groups) Norma Tac 22 - .82 (10 five round groups)

I’ve got the same rifle in Nordic wolf colour. Currently shooting Tennex for 50m and Match for 25m here in the uk. getting great groups but the odd flyer ( think that’s mainly me ) May try RWS when the cheap eley stocks run out.
Anschutz; encore et toujours un excellent choix… Merci pour cette vidéo
Waiting to hear the challenge let’s have it
I've had a couple of R50 lots that have been the best grouping out of my CZ457 MTR and I've shot it all many times over the years. As always, enjoyed the video. thanks

I think they make great ammo. Unfortunately for me and frustrating I know of a lot that hammers in my 455 but it is RWS R100 and I can't find it.
I like your test. You shoot very fast. #4 may need a look. It will be close. Good luck to your brother I have had that problem in the past.
If I ever had the luxury of lot testing, I might do it a little differently...(in my testing, I'd clean that carbon ring and push 1 wet & 1 dry patch before each lot change) First...I would like to see the chrony numbers for the entire box of ammo. I'd go through the entire box in these group tests so I'd have a 50 shot string in the Chrony. (High, Low, Avg., ES & SD ) Second...since I subscribe to 'Positive Compensation Theory', I would like to see the chrony numbers of all the rounds in each grouping to insure that I am on the upswing of the barrel and not on the downswing...meaning 'Negative Compensation'. Third...I need to consider the wind with an Anemometer & a vane/flag combo 25 yards in front of the bench...need wind speed & direction to account for that POA/POI spread we just saw. Lastly...I'd put a backer behind the targets so I can see clean cut measurable holes. I can't choose from what I've seen just now Eli...sorry-charlie ... 'Ole'Fart-OCD'Man' from California where we shoot a little high and a little left! 👈😎👍
I would go with 1-4-8. 2 and 10 as runners up. If I had to choose just one group, I would go with #4 and ignore the 'flyer'. Lot 4 deserves a 5 rounder or two. Good shooting!

John this thing is so beautiful in person camera does it not justice and the action is awesome.
I don’t know if you ever see this. I shoot my Anshutz with the same benchrest plate on my rifle. A couple things I’ve noticed is that you need to address. You need to change your front rest bag to a 3” Protector with the silver slippery cover. And why doesn’t your front rest NOT have a stop on it. I watched carefully and with that action you push that rifle back and forward. The name of the game is consistency. I shoot free recoil. Placing your face on the rifle will change the point of aim/impact. I’ve played this game for a couple of years. Free recoil is hard to get comfortable with and takes practice. And put a level on that rifle.
Number 8 for sure
Wow, that`s a beautiful rifle brother. Just needs a better scope. I think #4 deserves another go at it. The #8 looks really good! Long video? Oh heck no! I wish all your videos were this long.

Dee what's wrong with the Arken?
Also a wind probe will help you in light wind conditions.
DATR, a nice rifle set up, and some nice shooting ........ #8 is my guess but the other two ( 1 & 10 ) are nothing to spit at...............Not bad shooting for a $4k set up
Great video wish I could get a mixed brick in the especially as they are only half hour up the road Going on my experience my best groups have been with lots in 333 /334 meters a second and they normally have a SD of 6. Really curious if your best groups came with the faster lots I'd looking at 1. 4 and 8 even possible putting a tuner on it.
@Dayattherange

I will have to take a look to see if those were faster lots.
I would do 1, 2 and 10. Either way I really enjoy your videos, beautiful riffle. Your Army brother from Fayetteville North Carolina.

I’m liking 1, 4and 8, and that gun, 😍 can you post the website for the targets?
I love your videos. Thanks for shooting your 1727. Is it possible you can do a shooting comparison of the 1727 to the 1927? I would like to see the difference that a longer barrel has in the accuracy of otherwise, two equal rifles. Thanks again.

Thank you Emmett let me ask around at my club to see if anyone has a 1927 I can borrow.
Lot 8 but nothing wrong with having a back up lot. Nice gun have been looking at an Anshutz. I have an older Steven’s/Anshutz with the heavy barrel single feeder.

I did not know that, good information. Who ever has them need to make it easier to get the ammo.
Just a thought on the recessed muzzle as it's threaded could be the crown is behind the thread so no lose in accuracy.

You need some wind flags for sure!! Great video though!!!
As much trouble as you went to to insure everything is perfect for group testing. I am staring at the huge gap under the front bag aluminum slider. I would think the slider needs to have 100% contact to insure best accuracy.
@Dayattherange

see your point but not really as with the 3inch bag it has worn enough that there is grooves in it NO MOVING around. It would make no difference at all.
I shoot R-50 for BR in my Anschütz 1413. Testing lots is necessary. My last 10 lot test had my best group .23” the biggest group was greater than .5”. Out of 10 boxes 3 were acceptable. I average 4-5 shot groups for my selection process.

great shooting rifle you have there. I wish I had an indoor range I could shoot at to ring out the best. This part of the country is ALWAYS windy
Great video. I shoot a factory Anschutz Model 64 MPR. It loves RWS 50's. I'm guessing all your testing was at 50 yards. Have you done any testing at 100 yards? The last time out at 100 with RSW 50. It shot an aggregate of .739 with 3/5 round groups.

I absolutely want to get out to 100 yards though my buddies are so nice to entertain my craziness in testing their rifles , I do not like to keep them long. But that will be another project RWS50 at 100 yards.

I agree with your choice but I also think number for deserves another shot at it so to speak😮
I think I would have cut the field in half and have redone 1,4,7,8,and 10 and do atleast 2 if not 3 groups of each and see which 2 or 3 come out of that and then cut it to your fav.
Never worry about time
I vote 1-4-8 10 was pretty good also

Again! Your comparing, testing etc in the wind?
Stay with #8.
I think #1, 4, 8.
I'd try 4 again
I’d thrown group #4 in there also. Shoot off between 4 and 8.
1,4,8
4 looked better than 10 to me.
1, 8, 10
A good friend of mine is the importer of Anschutz and RWS - GSI. RWS is not my go to ammo. GSI has a 100 yd indoor range. The Fortner action is not my favorite. Rather have a bolt.

Need to shoot at individual targets, one shot per bullseye.
Rws
I don't think it's the target,probably his camera
Lot #8. In my thousands of rimfire ammo I have shot, I'm not a real fan of R50. There is better ammo out there. Lot test some Eley match. Take care and tell your brother to hang in there. Your friend.
1-8-10,4 looks good too, slow down your shooting!
Lot 4 was better than lot 10.
Number eight for sure but I would rather see an agg of five groups. This is coming from an old benchrest shooter.
your target is moving to much for lot testing
8
Number 8 for sure
