It feels like the “off-ness” of the song paints the picture of our protagonist character’s unfamiliarity with human emotions. Now, I have not watched the anime nor know much beyond what is in trailers. But the choices in music composition give me the impression that the composition itself and its choices are a musical illustration of the Frieren’s journey/unfamiliarity/experience of learning human emotions. All of this at the same time the lyrics are storytelling from a more “there was a fairytale like story that happened, there are things that happen now as my thoughts keep going back to that time, and there are also now new seeds to watch over, to guide and watch grow.”

Your analysis adds so much for my appreciation of Ayase. To my untrained ear, it sounds like Ayase has created music in three acts like a movie. Prelude, act 1 texture, transition, act 2 tempo, transition, act 3 encapsulation. Idol is a three-act structure as well. Ayase is creating a new form and it's phenomenal and connecting with the world. I hope his innovation catches on.

The lyrics are amazing too, they’re thematically relevant for the story of the anime. Yoasobi uploaded an English dub of the song too and it’s equally as good.

This is how you do a true 'reaction' video! I love anime music, but I love learning about the theory that goes behind it and why it sounds so unique and interesting. It's refreshing to see someone that actually has some meaningful perspectives and opinions on the art form! I dig your passion man and hope your channel becomes even more popular! Excellent work! Also, can we just appreciate that we got Lofi hip hop, Jazz, latin music, reggae steel drum, operatic choir, and symphonic orchestra music all in one song and it somehow works?! Ayase is a genius and Ikura has such a beautiful voice!

This is an anime about time. The title of the music is translated to "Hero" which is a music that resembles the death of the hero that defeated the demon lord and how it's history is gonna be forgotten, it's sang in the perspective of Frieren, an elf mage that was in the hero's party to defeat the demon lord. Elfs are beings with a crazy amount of lifespan, the lyrics capture her feelings of confusion between the love and comprehension Frieren had about the party members and how close to nothing human's lifespan was compared to hers. Despite the tone of the song, it's actually about the 5th stage of grief, acceptance. Even with her feelings of sorrow and nostalgia she accepts his death; for as long as she is alive, the hero and all of his party members will be alive in her memories, and so will be every single human she encounters on her adventure.

A rare reaction channel that does more than just react wirh emotion and actually reacts with intelligence and education. Actually this is the only channel I've seen that does that. Subscribed!

What you say in 7:50 , they actually was made song with full moombahtoon genre called " Moshimo inochi ga ekatara" and that was like the first song that i feel so different than what they do before

Damn! You're insane! My stupid no music idea mind can't keep up at all, but it's just so fascinating to even grasp even just a little of it.

this song comprises first slow tempo, naivety phase. Once we no longer naive, we grow into fast tempo phase. At the end, we look back at our naivety and reminisce how once we/ it used to be slow and peaceful. If only he analysed and explained like this, I can remember this is like houseki no kuni phase changes.

I've been watching this Frieren and honestly, it's so beautiful. Seeing you break down the opening really helps with understanding where certain things come from and overall just the whole feel of it. Watching 20 minute long music breakdown videos is not something I normally do but it's always so fun with you lol. I think I've requested this before, but I recommend checking out the Bocchi The Rock soundtrack, which is an anime about trying to start a band so you know the songs will be good. It has a whole album of songs to listen to and break down, or you could just check out the intro.

He's done a lot of stuff for Suisei Hoshimachi from hololive. Some good songs would be Stellar Stellar or Sanji Juunihen!

the melody and chords in this song-- I don't know how to describe everything I'm hearing... I'm just a hobby singer who grew up as a choir student, but holy crap this song is the most fun I have had singing a song in a while, it is very complex and a bit chaotic-- I sing the english version of this song btw. I use it as my warmup song now because I've actually noticed my vocals and utility to move between notes improve by a noticeable margin after learning this piece. While you excel at analyzing the music, I try to figure out the deeper meanings behind the lyrics and writing. What was the authors message, what was their goal, etc. I do this with everything I read and watch to a degree where I can get into the head of the author. This has gotten me a lot of attention in Lit and Comp at school. I went far beyond the curriculum. But you are what I call the missing half of what I need as a composer. You have all this built up knowledge and experience with music that I want to build up for myself. You have earned my respect as a musician in almost every way possible. Your videos have helped me out greatly within my short time as a pianist and I want to reach out to you to let you know how I feel. Keep up the great work. And please remember that you inspired me to attempt to reach your level. It will take time but you have renewed my resolve. And for that I am eternally grateful.

How do you get so good at recognising different instruments and chords and stuff like that? I'd love to get better at both understanding insturmentals and potentially trying to make instrumentals but you seem to make it so much deeper than I thought it was.
