Another poll predicts Tory wipeout - but will it actually happen? | LBC analysis
The Conservatives are facing a worse election defeat than in 1997 at the next general election, as Labour prepare for a landslide victory that could give them more than 400 seats, the latest election poll has revealed.
YouGov's latest seat-by-seat poll will cause further headaches for Rishi Sunak, predicting even worse elections than an equivalent poll in January earlier this year.
Sir Keir Starmer's Labour will be handed a majority of 154 after winning 403 seats in the House of Commons, according to the poll.
The Conservatives, meanwhile, will have just 155 seats - losing 210 seats from the last general election in 2019 - according to the prediction which uses multi-level regression and poststratification (MRP) method of polling.
Several prominent Tory MPs are also predicted to have their own 'Portillo Moment' and could lose their seat.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt, former Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith, and leading Brexiteer Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg would be on course to lose their seats.
According to the pollsters, Rishi Sunak is heading for a worse result than John Major's 1997 defeat, when the then-Tory leader won a total of 165 seats.
The poll for Starmer, however, could put him on course to win a victory on par with that of Tony Blair in his first term of office. In 1997. The party's longest-serving prime minister won 418 of the available 659 Commons seats.

Less than 100 tory seats could very well happen, if enough people turn to tactical voting. Out of those 150+ tory seats, nearly half have less than a 5% lead. With enough tactical voting, tories could have fewer seats than the lib-dems, and not even be the official opposition. In that scenario, a narrowing of the poll lead by labour over the tories would happen, because more votes would be switching from labour to lib-dem in tory marginals with currently second placed lib-dems.

May and Sunak inherited a disgusting poisoned chalice (at least those two seem honest and to have integrity). Time for change, time for a move to the left, centre ground.
The thing that astonishes me is that anyone sane could vote tory after looking at where we are after 14 years of having them in power. We have almost 8 million people desperate and suffering on hospital waiting lists, sewage flooding rivers and coasts, roads and infrastructure falling apart, life expectancy is actually getting shorter for the first time in modern history, Victorian malnutrition diseases such as scurvy and rickets now making a comeback, many people actually forced to try pulling out their out teeth because they cant get an NHS dentist, hundreds dying on trolleys and floors in A+E depts every month just waiting to even get looked at, hundreds of billions of pounds stolen from the nation's coffers via PPE contracts and numerous other frauds- etc, etc etc. The list of crimes, negligence and deliberately evil acts goes on and on, and millions are suffering in all sorts of ways. Who in their right mind could look at this national healthcare catastrophe and this enormous scale of suffering, compare that with how things were under the last Labour government (when for example, you got a GP appointment in less than 48 hours), and still think that the tories deserve another 5 years? Who in their right mind could think the NHS will ever work under the tories? I've been finding it really hard to stay on speaking terms with tories and brexit voters, but if any of them vote tory this year, I think I'll really struggle to ever speak to them again.

Typically these people will be paid based on engagements and responses, so I don't even really want to reply here- but I will reply once, just so that other people can be warned. Folks, do NOT be fooled by these paid far-right trolls and bots who try to tell you that Sunak and Starmer are essentially the same, and that its not worth voting Labour. That tactic is their last hope to spoil the Labour vote and salvage a few more seats. Don't fall for their cheap lies. Think about the NHS you had under Blair and Brown, when it was one of the best in the world. There is only one route back to that world, and it is the Labour Party. If you comment, do NOT do that via a reply to the user account above- you will only be helping the far right trolls.

155 too many. Never forgive Never forget.
I'm not exactly fond of your Labour party - and I'm also an unregistered migrant elsewhere in the UK than England, so not directly affected by whichever horse wins the race - but sweet Jesus, more than a decade of Tory rule has clearly left vast amounts of people absolutely impoverished, while millions rely on food banks simply to exist, while the NHS appears to be staggering along, and endless Far Right fuckwittery and corruption appears to swill around the Tories. Voting for them seems about as appealing as punching yourself in the nuts, frankly - I genuinely don't grasp the Tories' popularity, for want of a better word, considering the sorry state of Britain today after their rule, their control, their decisions for more than a decade.

There are a large number of people who support a political party in the same way people support a football team. They don’t care how bad their choice is!
It's this simple. The Tories alienated the electorate who voted Conservative expecting: 1. Lower taxes 2. A better country post-brexit 3. Leveling-up Of course 2 & 3 were never going to happen anyway but once they failed to deliver on any of these they lost half of their voters!

Brexit was what got them into power. Promising a better post Brexit life. But it was a fallacy. It was lies. It was Johnson at his lying baffoon best. And 52% believed it. Now us 48% despair.
Hope it’ll be worse than they are predicting!
If they (Tories) had any respect for themselves or their "consituates" they would end it now.
Well earned if you ask me!
I don't know how the Tories can even break 100 seats. If they do, it's simply down to the insane FPTP voting system.
I do hope so Let Starmer bring back honest liberty the rule of law and cooperation with our democratic nabours The tories have always been about the rich and keeping the rest of society devided No more
And the MRP method used doesn't even take account of tactical voting.
...and that’s with Starmer in opposition. Imagine if Labour had a decent leader.
Interestingly, 401 isn't as many seats as Labour won in 1997, which kind of gives some credence to the theory that it's an anti-tory vote.
Can't believe they think that Davies will keep his seat what kind of people would vote for a man who has rented out his own flat in London and rented another flat in London so he can claim expenses for it as he is not allowed to claim mortgage payments on expenses, I know it's not illegal but it is disgusting hope he tells his constituents and thanks them for paying for his London flat.
Afraid Sunak is detested by the public
With very mediocre tactical voting by Labour and Lib Dem supporters in the new marginal seats the Tories would lose another 50+ seats. Just 1 in 4 voting tactically in the new marginals would wipe the Tories out.
People don’t like to be led by people they perceive as incompetent, self-serving liars. At this point, party policies are irrelevant; whether it’s a Labour switch, abstention or protest party, the vast majority are voting with their heart, and can simply no longer bear their country being run by these despicable people, regardless of their personal politics.
Sunak is running scared, spread the word
Never before in my 28 years of voting have I needed a none of the above option on the form more than now.

Absolutely... I've been putting comments on various YT channels for ages, about this... I think they are afraid to put a ' NOTA ' option on the Ballot paper, as that would probably win about 500 seats !
I'm a card-carrying LibDem who this time is voting Labour. Labour, only waybto oust my Tory MP, Labour seem to have constructed a fairly impressive coalition. The only people who dont seem to like it, are some ppl on the left of the Labour party itself and Brexit party voters. I'm hopeful it will help the country find a way forward hopefully as united as we can be.
Electoral Calculas has them on 90 seats predicted.
Electoral Calculus has updated their numbers. They have Labour winning 459 seats and the Tories winning only 90. I like their poll better. If the public in marginals really take tactical voting seriously, they can get the Tories down to less than 50 seats possibly making the Lib Dems the official opposition.
The Brits woke up to their lousy government.

That's actually better for the Tories than many polls. It's therefore not spectacular news. Let us know if there's a poll showing them on fewer than 50 seats!
There is the very real prospect of a defeat worse than in tge disasters of 1906, 1997 and 2001.

You are right. Trouble is, this PR question was put to the public under Cameron and Clegg when they joined forces in 2010. And it was utterly rejected. Everyone had a chance to go for that then and decided against it. Trouble with PR is you get a bit of this, a bit of that, and end up with a rainbow coalition and nothing gets done. They just argue among themselves all the time. Its hard to get common ground and a consensus. And all of the factions do not have enough influence individually. Hence first past the post. The troubles we have today is simply that all political parties and politicians are utterly useless. They have no integrity. No ideas and are in the roles for themselves and what they get out of it. And are obsessed with their parties and not the actually people who elected them. And that wont change any time soon. It needs to go back to the old days, where you could not come out of school or Uni and become a career politician. It should only allow older people with experience in real world jobs. I just dont know what the answer to the current mess is, but one thing is certain, none of the current crop are up to the job....
