I don't even read romance but watch all of her videos. I just think she's nice.
Listening to a dark romance while decorating a Christmas tree in November is one of the most Chandler things ever lol I love it

honestly TRUE
I think not knowing how to feel about it is totally valid. It isn't a swoony romance, more like an erotic obsession, but the way Mara created these sparks of feelings in Cole that he had no idea what to do with sold me and I'm so curious to read the next!

This!! THIS is what I keep trying to explain to people!. Lol (Not about this particular book, specifically - I haven't read it, yet; Although I definitely kind of officially want to, now, because I am that kind of reader - but just about how fictional stories in general can be created about very very different kinds of things and enjoyed for entirely different reasons....sometimes you can acknowledge that certain characters' feelings for each other are theoretically real or genuine, even if those feelings do not redeem them as a theoretical person, OR the whole appeal of it is[ in fact] IN the questioning of those feelings and questioning if they were or weren't valid[ or even just in watching the trainwreck/mess or the drama] or etcetera. Not every book has to be *_liked_* in order to be *enjoyed.* If that even makes sense. And I think, sometimes, certain stories do get kinda just lumped together under the 'umbrella' of certain genres less because they particularly fit into that specific genre and more just because there aren't always concretely defined genres for every thing.) And, yeah, mixed-feelings are TOTALLY every bit as valid a feeling to have about anything as definitive likes/loves OR definitive dislikes/hates are too. 🙂

Yes this is exactly how I I felt about There are no saints! Cole as a character fascinates me and the dynamic between him and Mara is so compelling especially with these sparks of feelings from Cole that you spoke about, plus their scenes are HOT. But as far as a romance to root for...not really it
I audibly gasped when you said cole leaves her a “gift” AND SHE WEARS IT
I feel like the Brutal Prince is when Sophie hit her stride and found her voice. You can see her writing really grow throughout those books and looking at it with that lense is so much fun.
Unhinged Edward Cullen energy is exactly right and I loved it lol

There are no saints was wild. I wanted a creepy stalker romance thriller and it delivered
The Made series.....unleashed a new aspect of my character like who have I become, I loved alllll of the books (yikes). Like I downloaded duo lingo to understand/learn Russian. SOS
“I mean…he still kills people…” 😂 I don’t know why that made me giggle 😂

Same 😭 also kill switch ✨
Although I gave The Maddest Obsession 5 stars (because Danielle Lori's writing - not storytelling, her CRAFT - is just remarkable), I have to say your review of it the most on point I have seen so far. I had the same issues with 1) Christian not doing anything about her being abused, 2) Gianna having no ambition or passion whatsoever. She just stays home and wait for him to come home and bone her. (I've also seen this same thing in several mafia romances and it's kind of turned me off mafia romances. I can't relate to women who just sit around doing nothing). Also, I hated that there was no third act. The whole time I kept waiting for some big reveal from Christian - like maybe he's the one who orchestrated the night club shooting to get rid of Antonio. ANYTHING. But I kept reading and... nothing. They literally just held hands and walked off into the sunset. That's it. SO underwhelming after reading through so many words of nothingness. If it wasn't for her beautiful writing style this would have been around 3-stars for me.
Omg i’m reading Brutal Prince rn this is perfect
Um hi love the Made Men 😭😩
Did anyone ever told you how impossibly beautiful you are!!!and your sweet voice and accent? it's almost meditation to my soul...

ooo yes! i really want to read more of her backlist. i've read 2 books by her and loved both of them
I enjoyed There Are No Saints! I like her writing in general and the way this was written draws you in and has you waiting for the second part to drop!
I like the made series but the third one is my favorite, the hero is amazing in that one!
My kindle recommended me There are no Saints a couple days ago and it sounded interesting to me. But I am glad I can hear you talking about it because I don't think I am ready for dark romance yet 🙈😅 Maybe one day.. As always, fantastic video 😊
Just seeing this, I'm so glad you had fun! ❤
Not me getting giddy about you talking about There Are No Saints 🥰🥰
I don’t even like dark romances but i will watch you talk about a piece of dust for an hour
PLEASE read the third made series book, I actually think it's one of the best books I've ever read.
I am always glad to see a new video

JUST WHAT I NEEDED TODAY YES
Broken Vow is my favorite Sophie Lark I've read! It follows Callum's sister and it's a grumpy heroine sunshine hero bodyguard romance. The banter was great as well as the relationship developing in a way that made sense and was satisfying with a good plot.

oh that's so good to hear! i'll have to pick it up
I have yet to read There Are No Saints because everyone seems to love it and now I have unreasonable expectations for the book.
Honestly- lords of pain/rath/mercy was just 🤌🏽 I would highly recommend if you like hard dark romance
I think what you're really saying here, is that you personally like it when stories have an actual *plot* (i.e. = an actual story with some actual detail &/or depth and/or actual progression from point 'A.' to point 'Z.' or whatever that is put into it).. _even _*_if_* that plot itself isn't necessarily something particular[ or 'more'] that is happening other than just two characters existing, meeting, and falling in love &/or lust with each other.💜💜 Because a lot of people seem to think of a story having 'plot' as being specifically a story that has something like "solving X-mystery" or "going on X-quest" or "accomplishing X-goal" or "X-thing happening" or whatever in it, rather than thinking of plot as just being the literal story itself[ and _whatever_ actually does or does-not happen or get focused on within said-story] just in general. (But I could be wrong! ^-^) Lol Also, I think you're saying that you like dark romance, but what you don't really like is [essentially ]the _grimdark_ equivalent of dark romance.! Which is absolutely fair, too. 🙂🙂 Once upon a time, grimdark didn't really exist at all as a specifically or concretely honed subgenre of other genres either; for example, of fantasy - I think grimdark became an actual subgenre out of some combination of people not realizing that dark fantasy was actually already a genre and other people just wanting to take dark fantasy even darker than was usual. But with things like romance, I think maybe that hasn't really happened so much yet, or at least not on a large enough scale to warrant giving it its whole own separate shelf or classification or label or whatever just for it? But, I dunno, this is just me tossing thoughts out there .. whether any of them hold any actual sticking power or not.😁 😹 Loved this video though, either way!!!!! _THANK YOU!!!!_ ^^ I feel super glad to see you feeling absolutely no shame for shaking up your planned video order to read what you wanted to when you felt like it! 💖 You deserve to grab the little pick-me-up that you want when you need it, like this. Structure is definitely good and handy, but so can spontaneity be. Like, yes, you have a youtuber job to do here..but you also deserve to have a life, too! And no one should have any rights to have any problems with you doing that. [ in my opinion.] 🙂 Ssooo Get it = _QUEEEN!_ ^ ^ ((Then again, maybe I'm just biased, because I love dark..most genres. LOLL))
OKAY OKAY SO FAR SO GOOD
i have yet to read the third book in the Made series & I loved TMO, but I rly liked listening to ur thoughts abt it :))
we love the hair chan
I loved books 2 and 3 from the Made series the most 😊❤
I read pretty heavily into the reverse harem genre and of course within the genre there's paranormal stories(heavy on werewolves), mafia, bully, etc. Most fo the bully or enemies to lovers I feel are romanticized abuse. I put Lord's of Pain down almost as soon as I picked it up too. You have to actually like something about the men in the story to want to keep reading. There are a few reverse harem stories that have stood out as pretty good books with compelling characters and stories though but you have to dig pretty deep to find them.
I am thinking of reading all of these books so let's goooo

Love you recs!!! Can you please do Daddy trope recs or Obsessed heroes trope?!❤❤❤
awesome videos, i'm hesitant to start reading Sophie Larks's books but i see them everywhere so i know i'm gonna cave soon 😂
Sophie Lark is one of my favorite authors. I think you have to read her Underworld and Brutal Birthrights series to enjoy The Kingmakers series.
Ok totally agree with ur criticisms of the maddest obsession but i am obsessed with it. can safely say do not pick up the third book :/
So wild to hear someone not like the Maddest Obsession, but I’m kinda glad to hear a different opinion on it. Your honesty is always appreciated!
I would still highly suggest you read “the darkest temptation” by Danielle Lori cause I’m just sooooo curious what you think I loved that one the most, (feel like it would work for ur tase) it was in my opinion so much better and more interesting then most mafia books I’ve read in general not just by her.
@christinawellner9806

100% agree!! The Darkest Temptation is so much different from the first two. I loved it and gave it 5 stars while the others got 3 stars from me
I think it's easier to appreciate The Heir if you start with the Underworld/Brutal Birthright series since the Kingmakers series is the next generation.
Okay but honestly, even though you weren’t a fan of the first two, you should absolutely read Darkest Temptation. EVERYTHING about that book (the tone, the writing, the storyline) is completely different from the rest of the series. It’s not MY favorite in the series but I loved the second book so it stands to reason you might love the third. Plus it’s got heroine pulls the trigger on the hero trope so 10/10 regardless

Nothing hits quite as hard as trying to shoot your love interest in my opinion
I clicked so fast, I definitely have to read Sophie’s backlist but this was my first book from her so my expectations need to be lowered a bit. I loved how unique it was compared to other dark romances

Great show today, Chandler.
i agree with you on The Maddest Obsession! I really like the first one better than the second so I don't understand all the hype on book 2...
I did the same thing when I started lords of pain everyone was raving about the series and I read it and I got through that first scene and was like Um NO. I definitely do not understand the hype for that series its 100% thank that it’s romanticizing abuse. I’m excited to read there are no saints after hearing your review tho
Okay I might have to give Sophie lark a try 👀
perhaps ironically, without my glasses, the seatbelt in the thumbnail made it look like you were holding a kitchen knife, very on theme
Have you read Haunting Adeline? It's a pretty dark romance with some WTF moments, but I really enjoyed it!

i haven't! need to check that one out
Have you read any of Jessica Gadziala's book? She has a series of loanshark brothers finding their ladies and they are all real and unique ladies wirh clear personalities. As well as her mafia and mc-romances ofc.
Book 2&3 are better than book 1 in brutal birthright. Cause i also felt the same about the S3x scenes!!
Everyone says the third book in the Made series by Danielle Lori is the best, and I thought it was mediocre, but your video is making me think it’s because I listened to the first two books on audio, and the third book isn’t available on audio. It just wasn’t interesting enough to be an enjoyable kindle reading experience, but probably would’ve been a fine audiobook. I would be curious to hear what you think of it, but def understand you not wanting to read it if you didn’t like the second book!
Hey Chan!! I think you should give the mindf*ck series by ST Abby a try...it's pretty good.

Yes I’m good with the hero not really being a hero lol. I know it’s fiction doesn’t bother me
I have been stuck at 20% on the sweetest oblivion on my KU for like a month. I wanna dnf it and maybe read the 3rd one which i hear is much darker and has things actually happening. (I think the heroine is kidnapped). also, I totally agree with this author's heroine's having zero motivations in life. Like I think Elena does ballet but is also not very into it
@kadabra4009
2 жыл бұрын
That was also my biggest problem with The Sweetest Oblivion. Elena was literally so boring. The maddest obsession and The darkest temptation are way better. The female leads are definitely more interesting but so are the male leads quite frankly. The maddest obsession has a great love story that spans more years and definitely feels more slow burn but the darkest temptation is definitely darker and more gritty plot-wise.
if you think there are no saints was unhinged try into the dark by dana isaly it was insane
have you tried The Dare by Harley Laroux? it was banned in amazon, so i guess it was pretty dark?? hahaha
I read the first book from the Made series, the sweetest oblivion and liked it. Read book three and also enjoyed it. But I cannot get myself to read book two because I didn’t like Giannas character in book one. And you definitely did not sell me 😂 saved me a read.

Personally I absolutely loved the 2nd book and Gianna was awesome in it , I think you should give it a go
Hi chandler! I had a weird request and wanted to know if u could indulge me but i really respect your reading taste and was wondering if you could make a "dark romance" book rec video that aren't your average broody guy x headstrong girl? Something poetic yet tragic with a great atmosphere. It doesn't have to be a romance book specifically but one that has a "dark romantic relationship" in it. I would also love if the dark romance wasn't too in your face like the dark descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein which *spoilers Had a toxic/obsessive relationship between victor & elixabeth but it wasn't the main focus and victor wasn't your average dark romance hero. Sorry for the long comment!
Awww Chan I love you 😍 buyout boo I don't think DARK romance is necessarily for you baby. Dark romance is not anything to look up to hun unless you're into that 🤗 dark things happen and they contain ab. This kind of romance really depend on story and how you digest it
