For spray painting bits of cars in a cold garage I bought an old ceramic infrared heater off eBay and made an adjustable stand for it. Dead handy for getting the workpiece to a reasonable temperature, say 20-30C, without having to heat the entire garage to that temperature! Also good for getting paint to dry/cure quickly.

I completely agree with you farming out some of the mechanical work. When you find a good mechanic it's great. I used to fix all my own cars outside in the cold and the rain but found a guy local to me who is really professional and charges very reasonable rates! I'll still do an oil and filter change myself but he now gets all the sweary jobs! Proud to be a chopper!

Hi James, my mum has a micra 1.2, she has had it 13 years. Apart from the drivers internal handle, battery, brakes and tyres nothing has gone wrong. There are a couple of very small rust bubbles but for a 15 year old car. It still looks great but the headlights are yellowing now. Great content and love your honesty!

The "CHOPPER" In dear old Australia is a Rather Notorious Villain. Who got his name from Removing Parts of Poor unfortunate Chaps. 'Eric Banna' played him to a T..! (As in Terrifying. ..!) In a Movie called 'Chopper.!' Which made him almost 'Warm and Cuddly' (until u pissed him off..!) But "Choppers it is..!" Just mind your Ears or Fingers. (If not mistook..!!) 😎

It is good to see your masterclass in the power of collaboration by working with people like your local garage in order to maximise benefits all around. Doing everything yourself in order to cut costs can be a very negative and short-sighted way to run a business, when just as with investing by training people has longer term benefits. Like everything in lefe, it's important to find a happy balance ... Happy New Year to you and yours ...

Really interesting and insightful video here James. I like the way you are a perfectionist for example with those wheels on the Note, many would have just sprayed it, and let the car go. It really is refreshing to see somebody really go that extra mile and ensure all the vehicles are prepared so thoroughly before handover to the customer. I wish you every success with your business!

Love the Nissan note...had so many lovely cars. Yours is missing the two pieces of flooring in the back. Have you checked the front passenger seat as it has storage under the seat ..I once found the full service book in there. Common stuff the wheel bearings. You got lucky with the air con, the condenser usually goes due to where it is ..but it's a relatively cheap fix as parts available cheap online.

Hi James, just watched you advising that you are having reaction to wheel for painting, Wheels tyres are always full of silicon shine, And also i never detail the car when i am spraying the car with paintwork, to avoid silicone or wax related reactions. I always use OSCCAR silicon remover and use it as a panel wipe, It really takes all silicone out and also make sure that panel is left absolutely with no contemination before yous start spraying any Primer or even better that lacquer does not have any silicone reaction either. I hope this helps.

A couple of years ago, when I was shopping for a replacement for my very used 97 Honda Civic hatchback, I considered one of these as folks said they were quite roomy inside. Unfortunately, here in the 'states the Note (not sold here since 2017) is considered to be a very cheap car. So very few beautiful metallic colors (I do like this color) and the manual transmission is reserved for the basic/bottom rung trim level. All other trims get a CVT, YECH.

On the subject of DIY repairs, your time is better used prioritising selling and not repairs. "you do what you do, they do what they do!" You don't want or need to have to invest dead time in removing rusty bolts and broken studs. Buying fancy tools you'll never use again. Let the mechanic invest in that, you invest your time in 'selling!' Everyones happy!

If you have smelly a/c Bilt Hamber do excellent “bombs” you can run in the car to clean up the smell and mould etc. I have found all their products brilliant particularly their hand cleaner

Nissan Note, nothing wrong with the colour of this one, if anything if I were buying a Note and had a choice between this colour and white (ref the previous Note you had), I would choose this colour all day long.

I am glad that Nissan Note turned out not too bad to repair and bring it on to the forecourt. I have decided to stick to cars between11 and 14 plate and stay in 5 to 6K sub market. I only buy cars with BCA Assured to make sure there is no mechanical Fault and I do the bodywork and detailing myself to make sure that i make the car absolutely mint before i put it up for sale. I bought a Seat Ibiza 14 Plate, Grade 3, 60K on the odo, Full Service History, i put a proxy on it for £4400, retail value at Auto Trader is coming up at £6850.00, so after fees, warranty, vat margin and prepration fees, i should have about £1300 margin on it. But as you know buying from BCA is always like walking on ice. I forgot to check that it said on the notes that the vehicle is modified, so not sure what i am going to expect, picking it up on Monday from Bristol at 8.30 AM, Bring it back to Derby and see what we are dealign with regards to modifications. wish me luck.
