Finally a good point for not having to replace all the roads in a city to a new system: a real city also has different road styles and widths. You can mix different road styles in a city, just as in a real city!

I adore the new road plates, they are so much better looking than every brick-built road I've seen. The thing that drives me nuts, is the 16-wide roads. I mean, it makes the sidewalks when you put one of these next to a modular with the standard sidewalk, look HUGE! I limit my sidewalk on my road plates to just 4 studs on either side of the road, and when blended with the modular sidewalks it seems more reasonable... Unless the plan is to put the planter areas on the road plates some locales have. :) I love the curbs, and now I'm plotting my next bricklink order as I'm slowly working on redeveloping my city after my recent move... and There's so much to think about! :D I've been using the road plates and 48x48 baseplates to create boulevard roads for my main drag, and I built them with an option to be planters/trees/green belt in the middle, OR a trolly track. :) Cool Build! Love it! :)

  • @BevinsBricksWorld

I personally like wide sidewalks because you can add more items without it affecting minifigure walking space. For example street lights, trees, benches, payphones and paper boxes to name a few. You can brick build the lanes to be wider as well and still use the new road plates to help make the sidewalks smaller. :)

Wow that looks good, with the 2 sets I got of the t junction, I actually had fun with it. I don't have a city and just have city and creator 3 in 1 buildings I managed to create a bit of a t junction section of a "city". With the creator modern town house and petshop/coffee shop forget it's full name, as the main focus of it. I don't have much 2x2 tiles but I managed to make a side walk for the corner building, the focus building. What I did was use the green plates on the sides and the 2x4 to connect, then 2x4 in the areas in between, 1x4 to fill it in, leaving 2 studs for the buildings to connect. For the modern town house set, I added 2x whatever plates to add additional surface, then connecting on top with my tiles. Then 2x2 plates under the set to lift it up connecting it to the road section by the additional 2 stud plates i added. Looked good for just a basic setup.

I’m an AFOL with limited LEGO space. These new plates are fantastic. The lanes on the “old” baseplates were way too wide. The packs of the baseplates were never on store shelves outside of a LEGO store. The new road plates are more readily available aiding in city expansions. What is with all of the love for the old curves? The vast majority of cities are based on a grid pattern, no curves. Even the corner modulars have sharp corners, imagine the entrance and exit of the corner garage needing 32 studs worth of curve to enter. The corner plates did not seem as useful. But, this opinion is from a new AFOL who only had a taste of the old roads before these were introduced. Sorry this was so long.

I do brick built roads in my city. But a good cheaper option is using the new road plates in a mils as well. I sell instructions for both versions on my website and they are currently on sale half off.

All of the match to scale road concepts are separate element constructions. The secondary market...owned by TLG....will never be without any fabricated part. Prices next to gold is the standard of perfection, yes. The documentation of building with the new Road thing is helping everyone everywhere, good show! Using a Waffle Plate is more offensive than this new "fix it" element. Actual Road Plates SHOULD BE Brick. Actual working Train elements still wait decades.

Bro, I’m confused. It seems like those two roads wouldn’t line up properly since the new small ones road plates isn’t sitting on 2x2 plates but your large one is. Does the curb work best with 1 or 2 studs in height? Or are your brick built roads with 1x2’s thinner than the road plate?

Height wise brick built or new plates the way I make them they match up. Curb height is all a matter of preference.

@@BevinsBricksWorld yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I’m being over analytical here lol! I’ve noticed a new trend beginning and that’s taking the friends sets or even the road plates sets and turning them into Modular’s. I feel you started that trend the other week and now all of a sudden… no worries, I have a plan ;)
