Annual and Perennial Flowers 2020 - P1
Annual and Perennial Flowers 2020 - P1 - In this video I go over my annual and perennial flowers that I planted in the front yard during 2020. I did some temporary things this first season, because I had so many projects going on and the tree removal. Next year I will get it to a more finished landscape.

I still can’t believe the transformation that you made in less than one year! Gorgeous!
The coleus truly has stolen the show in the garden behind you! It draws my eyes directly there! Such a lovely mix of fall annual flower bed! Love it Jim! 😍🌸🌱

It really is the focal point. Thanks for watching
It is great to see a collection of different annuals as opposed to a flowerbed of over-marketed branded petunias. I appreciate the colors and textures. Well done.
Love the coleus..... and the drone view.......it really helps with knowing where things are.
The African basil is a stunner!
I just can’t get enough of those aerial views!!🤩

Thank you for following along. I'm sure you're doing great. Gardening isn't a race, it is a pursuit.
I can't wait to watch the video on how to save the cuttings! Thanks for such great content!
This cheerful color combo is gorgeous. Thanks for giving us information on what you will save seed from and what cuttings you will take and why you choose to do this for some plants and not for others. Good advice!
Very attractive and striking color scheme! The red coleus is awesome, very full and lush!
The red coleus is gorgeous mixed with your other plants. I love some of the combinations. Great front garden. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
You've created such a fun space! I love your use of plants that are (normally) pretty easily accessible. You've given me lots of inspiration for my 7b Oklahoma garden.
Beautiful
Looks amazing!!

Thank you!!
It looks beautiful!! Love all the color.
The color look great.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
I don't have luck with celosia in zone 9. They turn to toast by June.
I hope the Chamber of Commerce or tourism office provides you with some of those Raleigh shirts considering how much free advertising you provide. ;) I also went searching for your planting video (found it on May 27th) to see how many coleus and melampodium plants it took to grow into those huge showstoppers. It is shocking to see the before and after of your annual bed in just 3 months. I will be planting some coleus in the ground next year. Thanks!
This is amazing, beautiful!
SO AWESOME--BE PROUD
Yes! How to winter annuals plz
Well now I'm sad lol. I saw that red on your landscape and I was thinking oh I need that plant. But coleus is not frost hardy. Now I have to find something that pretty that is frost hardy... Because even if I'm in East Texas I still get maybe three or four days of frost that will kill my coleus. As it is the ones I have I'm going to have to move into storage. Oops PS yes it's gorgeous!!

They are super easy to root and keep for a few months. Then right back in the ground!
Wow! First of all the wealth of information is amazing (although I don't know why I am amazed because all of your videos are packed with information!). Second, it all turned out to be beautiful! Third, what is the blue grass in the pot next to the Gold lantana?❤

I never realized that you can grow Coleus in the ground that well. I thought they were always planted in pots.

I find that they are more sun tolerant in the ground
Love this bed! Jim, will any of the annuals reseed? ❤

The melanpodium and the celosia probably can. I could collect seed on most of them. I'm not a giant fan of self seeding annuals.
What are your thoughts on clay pots vs other containers for plantings? Thanks for all the information you share with us.
I fell in love with the saucy wine salvia from southern living plant collection. I had it one year and it was a stunner, but I'd love to have something of a similar color that's a perennial . Your mulberry jam salvia looks close, but do you know of any other reddish purple perennial salvias? I'm in 8a.
I have some gaura that came back for me great last year, in fact it stayed green most of the winter. This year though it seems like it is browning up and I lost a lot of leaves. I think it got dried out while working on drip. Can I cut it back now? last year I didn’t cut it at all until I saw new growth in the spring. It’s still blooming some but the plant itself looks a bit pathetic.
I’m wondering why you’ve mounded up the soil near the driveway? I’ve seen some people in my neighborhood do this as well. Can’t believe how much growth you had from those annuals and perennials in the front this season, looks great.

Better drainage?
please share with us that you water this stuff almost every day :)
Looks amazing!! Do you set your containers up on drip?
Hey, Jim! Is it too late for me to start my Mahogany Splendor seeds in Oklahoma zone 7a/b ??? I had forgotten I had them & was thinking they should have been started a while back… thanks!!! Happy almost spring! 😹 as we have snow on the ground and temps in the teens overnight.
How do you take care of your vinca? Do you prune it?
So beautiful! I’m curious if each of the “clumps” of annuals are a single plant? Or did you plant 2-3 per “clump”?
@JimPutnam

Good question. Most are groupings of three.

@@JimPutnam Good to know. I have usually planted just one per planting hole and wondered why mine never got large and blousy like the ones I see in other people's gardens. Now I know!
What is the name of the coleus? I didn't see you mentioned in the video or the description. it really is beautiful!

My Dipladenia is vining. What am I doing wrong. Can I cut it back to keep it bushy. It always has a couple of flowers on it, but it climbs anything that is near it. I’m in central Texas. Zone 8
Do you know where i can get seed for Mexican sage?
👋😃
Hi! Silly question but how in the world do you keep weeds out of all that mulch? I’m constantly picking out sperg weed out of my beds.

I got them under control before I mulched in March. It was in good shape until maybe 5 weeks ago. I got them under control again (pulling and a shuffle how). This mulch should keep most at bay for a while
