This is worth the money if you are learning how to crochet. I joined this because it offers video instruction plus all of the materials. As a beginner, it’s worth every penny.

Thank you for explaining the options and cost. They are beautiful but above my budget at this time. I do like that they have video tutorials too.

You can get that exact pattern at Annie's Catalog site for $6.99, it's called the "Low Country Crochet Sampler Afghan Pattern". It's completely the same.

I'm doing the seaside stripes sampler knit afghan, but I opted for just the videos and pattern. I didn't want to pay $170+ just for the yarn to be shipped to me. I bought five skeins of Caron One Pound on sale (cost less than $50 total) that should be more than enough to make my afghan. The tutorial videos are really great. I'm fairly new to knitting and am excited to learn new patterns.

I’m with you. I like Bates hooks the best. I have both.

I had a hard time to decide which colour I wanted, I did go with plumberry.

I wanted to get the plumberry but after adding it all up, I decided it was just too exoensive

I started this year in March, but I didn’t get the hook stitch marks. I also had a hard time to pick the colour, so I picked plumberry. I pay $37 a month, I think it’s to expensive per Afghan, I didn’t know that it would take 11 months 11 times $37

I am beginning to like Susan Bates hooks better because the quality of Boye hooks is going downhill. I don't know if the aluminum molds are breaking down and they are not replacing them or if the people or machines that grind off the metal slubs [ /tags/splinters/jags whatever you may call them ] off of them are carried away but they grind them down to a degree that they are too blunt to make crocheting the joy that it should be. And the grind job I'm talking about is just like the hook you showed us so close to the camera.

I read in a review on Annie’s website that they had to switch hook sizes 3x in 8 rows. Was that your experience as well? Any thoughts to share about this? I’m an experienced crocheter (over 30 years). But I’m not fast. My work is generally neat and uniform. No tension issues. Thank you.

Is this realistic to learn if you have never crochet before?
