Anne Heller, “The Outsider: Hannah Arendt & Human Freedom”

Anne C. Heller, author of the biography “Hannah Arendt: A Life in Dark Times,” discusses several transformative events in Arendt's life. Heller presents Arendt as one of the 20th century’s most passionate exponents of what she herself called the qualities of the “conscious pariah”: humanity, heart, disinterested intelligence, humor, and the embrace of an ennobled public life as an antidote to the perils of modern rootlessness and loneliness.
This lecture was held on November 17th, 2015 at New York University's Center for the Study of Transformative Lives. Introduced by Ulrich Baer, Professor of German and Comparative Literature and
Vice Provost for Faculty, Arts, Humanities, & Diversity.
