I love how Ann lowers her voice to say "wife" and "bed", so accusing, and yet still tacktfull 😍

I think she do really love Ann Walker because Ann might seem sweet and timid but when put her mind to it she's the only one who can put Anne in her place and see her bullshit. Anne definitely loved that she's challenged and that her partner is not just someone that can't defend herself. It's an ideal companionship.

Money may have been an initial primary motivator, as nearly all marriages were in that time period. But, from her journal writings, it's clear that she grew to love her over time and also simply wanted a life companion.

Ann walker finally spoke the truth. She's going by her gut instinct. Which Anne didn't expect 🤔 So she's covering it by throwing a few facts. Called derailing.

For the time period it is indeed like a true mariage. If she'd married a man, even though she was the one coming to it with money, he would have used her money as he saw fit because it would have become his, and he would have cheated on her left and right, it would have been seen as totally acceptable by society and she'd had no way to complain.

I think this is very realistic, i’ve read somewhere that the series was ofc made more attractive than the reality. it says there that ppl would kinda be disappointed if they compared the show to what rly happened in the marriage. But i mean, still, they are married, a gay couple in 1830s which is still remarkable, and these obstacles r just normal ig for a married couple

The series only covers the first two years of their relationship and only a few months into the marriage. It doesn't get into the other years before Lister passed away. As any marriage, there are ups and downs. The show follows the diary very closely. In many scenes, it's nearly word for word. Perhaps if there was a 3rd or 4th season, more of the marriage reality would have been covered.

Well Anne is right, she doesn’t have to pay for everything.

Well if she would be inheriting from Lister, that would be quite shg. She's is investing way more than Walker does. In fact it is often like that in a partnership. One person assuring the larger scale, the other one on a smaller one. One investing, other one daily expenses. I can see nothing wrong about what you already have in all types of aquaintances and doing business. Cash flow and longterm deposits. Together that allows to grow.

Most any couple shifts somewhat from the wooing, courting stage to the post marriage settled stage.

1:44 This is probably what killed the show. AL started to seem more predatory person and not someone in love.

She actually became more in love as time went on throughout the series, more so than she initially expected to be.. She was always a risk taker with spending money and wanting to improve Shibden and sink the coal mines. That didn't change from day 1.

As usual we are only going to get eight or nine episodes. Why are you even bothering watching the show. HBO and Showtime that’s all they give you is maybe nine episodes. And then we have to wait two years for another season.

actually, season 2 took 2 years due to covid when it should hsve been 10 months only. the season 3 would come back in april 2023 in UK and mid april 2023 in the US. So it is not that bad

Many TV series in recent years or 8 or less episodes. Quality over quantity is a good thing.
