....yes there were other beautiful Asian women who did very well as models before her....and they did open up doors for her....however ANNA was the 1st one to work ....at the level of the true supermodels...doing the same shows....ad campaigns...and media coverage....she is the !st...Asian supermodel....and one of the best runway models in the business....excellent technical presentation of haute couture....and she made it look effortless....she should absolutely teach runway....she is a cultural icon....

Melanie Marquez never even landed on fashion editorials such as Vogue, Elle, WWD etc. Wasn't even a Muse of Yves St Laurent, Valentino, Mugler etc. Anna Bayle is a league of her own, Melanie Marquez joined that Supermodel contest, ended as runner up.

Melanie’s modeling career was short lived, her greatest achievement besides miss international was face of the 80s in the mid 80s and a runner up in supermodel of the world, anna bayle was BIGGER than Melanie in terms of being a SUPERMODEL. But I’m definitely a fan of both.

She's not alive any longer, this is why I write on her behalf, to affirm her important presence in fashion history. Anna Bayle was the catwalk sensation from the Philippines, but Soyoko was a poem in human incarnation.

Unecessarily capitalizing phrase "first Asian supermodel" doesnt make your belief true. Both made an impact or contribution to the modeling world while remaining less recognized than certain peers. These claims are subjective and people that overly promote their group are unappealingly selfish. Yamagachi was older but I dont know the dates she and Bayle were active. Bayle was one of the highest paid models in her time.
