Saw her live in Birmingham uk.. She asked us what we wanted to hear.. I was screaming no more tears. She heard me and said you don't want to hear that old thing.. I shouted yes.. Please.. I haven't sing that in years.. More people say yes sing it.. She then sang it to me.. What a moment... Now my son is a fan too.. Thank you Queen Anita from the bottom of my heart.

Ok, Anita is a singing legend; her technique, stage presence and range are unmistakably hers but one thing that puts her above soo many is her tone. People, you can not buy tone. You may be able to sing the loudest, screech the balls out of a note and take it to church countless times but it doesn't matter if your tone is "off!" Anita's tone however is truly beautiful, like her. My favourite singer ever.

  • @slimdudeDJC

That's it, Sir Dave!! Tone is everything. As an instrumentalist, Wes Montgomery was/is incomparable! Not just b/c he played octaves without the use of a stomp box, but he played it all with his thumb!! And the tone made all the difference in the world. Yes, Anita's tone is phenom!!!

She’s a great dancer...so free. Her singing brought jazz to those of us too young to have experienced Billie Holiday and Sara Vaughn. There was no internet in the mid- late 80’s. Now I can actually watch her performances...amazing. I love how she’s so engrossed in the music. There’s no pretension, no facades...just Anita!! No one like her before or after! Check out her performance at the ‘87 Grammy Awards ‘God Bless The Child’

She was in DC. After that Richmond Va where i saw her with my bf and my mom. A church lady who heard and liked Anita as I began to. Youre right you sit there stuck. You end up her rapture and voice/performance mesmorised. To hear her voice off the theatre walls is an amazing sound. The song pulls you in. I asked my mom afterwards how was it? She said she was holding her breath. Forgetting to breathe. Thats how mesmorizing her performances are. ,

nobody phrases like Anita, nobody annunciates like Anita, and nobody sounds like Anita - just one of those rare, 'forever' voices that will endure over time. such an inspiration for all singers today, male or female, in how to convey an emotion with soul, with conviction, and with talent (and without electronic enhancement or correction - this is just real talent through a real heart, sounding out through the mike).

Especially Phyllis Hyman.....not trying to create a comparison , but just image Phyllis covering an Anita Baker song........

Saw her on this tour in San Diego. 3rd row from the stage. While singing, she walked up to the front of the stage and was looking at my date and I, then in a brief pause from singing, I patted my heart to signal that I really loved her singing, she responded by doing the same to me, smiled, then began singing again. Pretty cool and shows that she connected with her fans. Incredible lady and performer.

I remember when I first heard her on my car radio singing “Sweet Love.” At that time I had never heard anything like it. I didn’t know who Anita Baker was. All I knew was the song and that I wanted to know everything about this artist and her music. When I found this concert on VHS, I immediately rented it. I gathered my entire family and we watched as she took us all to another wonderful place. Thank you for posting this and the journey back. 👍

I am from Bengkulu, a small city in the Sumatra island in Indonesia. I was introduced to Ms. Baker's music when I was still in high school, circa 2007 - 2008 (also the first time I ever heard a singer named Anita Baker). Illegal downloaded music was very popular among youngsters in Indonesia back then, and I listened Ms. Baker's song for the very first time through free download, and that song was You Bring Me Joy. That was the only song available for free on the internet that time, and I was so stunned by the magical voice and musical style of Ms. Baker. A few months later, I started searching out other songs from Anita Baker, from Rapture to Rhythm of Love. Sweet Love, Caught Up in the Rapture, Giving You The Best That I Got, Just Because, Soul Inspiration, Angel, I Apologized are some of the songs that keep stuck in my head when I need time to relax and chill in the middle of the night. The kinda quality I hardly find these days. Bravo to the legend!

I always played this video on the monitor at Blockbuster when I worked on Saturday nights. The customers loved it- I think they felt like they were at a free concert- maybe they even bought more tapes and rentals, lol. Anita's petite size (4' 11") always contradicted her spectacular, gun-blazing contralto, she is visually breathtaking here in a very feminine white suit and dancing skirt. Unforgettable at the 27:56 minute is a lovely seven-minute performance of "'Watch your Step," followed by screams of appreciation from the audience, which grow even louder at the seamless transition to "Sweet Love" at 34:54. Singularly gorgeous.

This Anita Baker concert in DC is pure GOLD. 🔥 DC has always loved and celebrated great music. Anita Baker filled the airwaves for years, e.g., WHUR and other local jazz and R&B stations. Great singers are set apart by what they do between the lyrics. Not only is Anita Baker a phenomenal voice, she is a wonderful songwriter and interpreter of the lyrics of love in all its ups and downs. Thank you for sharing this concert. Because of this post, I bought the VHS recently & converted it to a digital format. This live performance is a Master class on how to perform live music, vocal technique, and how to own the stage. Watch and learn. Brava Anita Baker - No one in the World like you. Love 💘

Anita, along with Aretha and Whitney, is in my top three female vocalists of all-time! Anita emotes every word of every song she sings with such soul!!! The woman really MOVES me! Thanks for the upload!

My mom still has this VHS. My dad bought it for her birthday way back when. This is when music was good and as a little kid on the weekends I would always play this singing along right with it. Sigh good times! Thanks for this.
