The French Defence appears on the board after 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5. It is solid and yet an ambitious opening. World No.10 Anish Giri has been playing this Defence right since he was a young talent and over the years he has had many good games with it. The aim of this stream is to give you a working idea of how the French Defence is played and at the same time you get to see a couple of wonderful games played by Anish from the black side of this opening.

Man the smile on Anish's face when Sagar bhai told him not to slow down coz thats how a top player thinks and thats how he wants the show to display was too wholesome.

One more comment for the GM Anish giri world no.10. We are well known that, he is very good chess player and in this lockdown we also have known how good his sense of humor is!! But, one more thing I have noticed is, his love for chess simple crosses the limits. Otherwise, we won't be getting these streams free! One day, I too want to teach chess free of cost!!! That's one of my goals.

I learnt the KIA against French and I know the main moves as Anish says in 17:50 ; and it works most of the time. But I always had these games where opponents played dxe4, I kept playing same moves but my g2 bishop is sad. This is the first video where I get a great and clear cut discussion on this alternative, with Nc6 and dxe4, turns out g3, Bg2 is bad! Though it is from the black perspective, I recommend this discussion from 18:44 to every KIA player. Good stuff by Anish!

What an incredible video promoting Anishi's jjust published course on the French Defense. I'm left with mixed impressions on the course, but not the value of the course. Does that make sense? There is no doubt in my mind that the course will be filled with excellent lines and quality content that will stand the test of time... Something a player could come back to and revisit repeatedly, getting more understanding every time. What takes me aback, though is how different the approach and lines are from how I learned and play the French. Anish's style is typical of today which is probably influenced greatly by strong computer games and analysis... The result is that Anish is probably always looking to open the game to his advantage because he's one of the world's leading creative players. And yet... That's not my practical experience playing the French so far... Practically every player I've played at every level is not blessed with Anish's creativity so my French rarely open up, instead are games of long maneuvering and making my positional advantage decisive. So, if the video is an example of Anish's approach to opening theory Emphasis is always placed on tactical advantage in open positions and not necessarily a deeper insight into less dynamic positions. But, it will be very interesting to see if Anish's work and his approach becomes influential and spawns disciples of his approach who can crush players like myself. It's the old argument whether the energy of a Tal can overcome the patience and positional insight of a Petrosian.

Dude, he had a Banter-Blitz session - I am NOT a good player, but I usually choose the french for black. Before I knew what was happening he accepted and I had played the french defense.. Then it dawned on me who I just took on with the french.. lol. I mean, I was probably losing to a GM anyway, but a Super GM whose speciality is the French... Yeah... Such an honor though, really think I might take his course after that experience.

He is trying to be sneaky, - 'the idea of stream is to inspire y so go and buy' he is advertising anish course when anish didn't even WANT to that - just so that sagar could look like a bigger person in front of anish but patronising us. At least anish doesn't want to patronise us.❤️ seriously nobody likes things being shoved down our faces if we want to buy we can buy we know it exists.
