I found Rook e2, but I also found Knight e2 accomplishes exactly the same thing. Am I wrong? Or are both equally brilliant moves? Couldn't find Queen h6 (thought it was Queen g5 but didn't really feel great about any move; I dismissed Queen h6 fairly quickly because the king remains on the horizontal-vertical axis and so would still get checked the same as before in the attacking sequence and I'd just be down a Queen for no compensation. Obviously, what I missed was that the bishop protects the last Rook, so the King would need to move away from check but its boxed in the corner). Couldn't find Knight f2 (thought it was Knight g3, taking the bishop, threatening a now hanging Rook and possibly forcing a Queen trade by Hikaru. The position is then quite nice with a Rook defended far-up pawn, the enemy white King is also not well defended. What I missed is that the black king an be back rank mated by the c5 Rook, so the d8 rook isn't "actually" defending the black Queen. I would have hung mate in 1.

Rook e2 threatens two pieces at once: the rook and the queen (if you save the rook, you lose the queen and if you move your queen you hang the rook; there is Qc1 after Re2 but at that point, white is so passive and Giri should have no trouble converting). White has to react, otherwise they lose a piece. The difference is that with Knight e2, white does not have to take the knight. White can go Qg4 (or Qe4) and keep all the pieces on the board. (black is probably still better, but the win will be tougher)

TBH Anish Giri is so underrated and everyone (esp the low elo dmbasses) keep on making draw jokes despite him not even drawing as much as other top GMs do and the joke was born in 2016, half a decade ago lol
