Best Matinee
3rd Place
(For best viewing, play LOUD, and in fullscreen)
This is a music video to my song "Fright Machine" along the same animation lines as Animusic (except far less professional x.x).
Idea: A lone machine in a damp basement hisses and sparks to keep a dark energy at bay... and almost fails D: spooky!
This video was a labor of love. It took me about 7-9 months altogether to make it, but that's mostly because there were times where I would go weeks (if not months) without going back to touch it and work on it, mostly cause I had no reason to make this other than my own personal satisfaction and ability to say "Holy shit look what I dId!"
The animation was done in UnrealED 3 (same software used to make Unreal Tournament 3 for the un-initiated). The entire video is made up of 5 primary matinee sequences (so I could work on each part of the video one at a time), each primary sequence being between 1 and 1 & 1/2 minutes long. The meshes were premade.(came with the program when I bought UT3), but the room, animations and overall design of the video was programmed entirely by myself (including the spark and smoke emitters, which I programmed myself but used premade particle skins).
I don't know the exact count but I'm sure there is well over 100 individual matinee sequences. Matinee sequences in UnrealED are used to control anything that moves or changes within the level, which goes from the camera and cinematic elements of the video (or level) to all the animated instruments to the emitters and lights turning on and off. Programming most of time-based instruments (drums, lights, sparks) was fairly easy given that the program's timeline function worked straight down to the millisecond and I just had to match up the timing to the actual timing of the music itself (if drums come in at 33.564 seconds, I start the drum animation at 33.564 seconds, give or take however much time it takes them to actually hit).
I worked really hard on this and I didn't receive any outside help save for a lot... A LOT of stuff I had to research for myself (how to turn emitters on/off, how to make lights dynamic and cast moving shadows, etc). Special thanks to 3DBuzz's UED3 tutorial videos which helped me a lot in learning the editor itself and the matinee programming.
Due to recording and editing issues, there are still parts where instruments are out of time by a frame or two, mostly due to the fact that when I exported it out of Adobe Premier, it would un-synchronize with the preview version and the time line. I attempted to edit some of the parts, but I gave up since I could never get a solid result.

I'm listening to it in 2024 AND OH MY GOD IT STILL SLAPS!
the polygon count is pretty low, but I like that... Gives your work a unique visual effect. And takes me back to playing older video games :) yay!
It's literally steampunk Drum Machine. Don't get me wrong, I love both Drum Machine and Gyro Drums, so this is another one for the collection.

Thanks for the share :D The engine used to create it is actually UDK and the Unreal Engine, the same engine used to make Unreal Tournament, Gears of War (I think) and others. So it is actually from a video game (sort of).

@@RCTFORME I was gonna say that the graphics reminded me (fondly) of the original Half-Life.
Why the heck are there less views or likes or anything then this video deserves? This is flipping fantastic!!! The bass goes through your whole body the tunage is just heavenly and the "instruments" fit perfectly.
12 years after and I'm showing this to my toddler for "Dance Mode"

The quality has held up! Both the music and visuals are astonishing. Most definitely my kind of vibes.
It reminds me of the factory where my brother used to work at and I still love this music!!!!!!
These were amazing! Love the animation. Not too sure about the music, but we all have our different tastes. The sound and textures in this one reminded me very much of a .farb-rausch demo.
Onto the "Fanimusic 3 & 4" playlist this goes!
yet another fine work by RCTFOR 10/10

The spinning thing in the middle of the room was driving all the other instruments correct? Wow this was awesome I loved it fantastic
It reminds me of my brother's work place down the street from me and I love it!!!!!
This is a legit "wasteland battle" track.
I love this animusic, and thankyou for posting it.
Two words; ME LIKE!!!
I have it in my head that this sort of seems like what one would expect to be a technological *satanic summoning ritual*, but I fucking love it anyways because it is AWESOME.
Discovered this just now, when searching for Animusic style fan made videos. At first I thought "oh, just some old video in crappy quality". But I gave it a try and it's actually pretty awesome. Especially the music. Love it.

"Yes, sir. The doodads are operating at peak efficiency."
This video actually predated my birth, even though I predated the Galactic Academy! (Embodiment Of The Scarlet Devil predated all.)
Very good! I loved this one. Galactic Academy was good, but it doesn't meet the quality I see from this one. If I didn't know better, I'd say this was from the Animusic series. The only thing that made this "Sub-Par" to use that term lightly, were the textures. If the textures were a bit higher resolution, this would look like it was made in by the animusic team in their early releases. The music was grand too; with a strong rhythm, intense beat and smooth transitions. Great job all around to the creator of this video. If I were to rate it, I'd give this one a 9/10, but a slightly higher 9/10 than Galactic Academy. So like a 9.6/10.

Still watching 11 years later ( I can’t believe I was 4 when I first heard this banger of a song! I wasn’t even scared of it I just thought it sounded really badass!)
Thank you!
I love this music and it helps me to function real good and I'll thank you for everything !!!!!!!!!!
If Sega ever decides to make Vector Man 3, they need to use your music. lol
This. This beautiful and creepy machine! I'm an Elder Scrolls fan, and this looks like something you'd see in a Dwemer ruin.
This creation is fit for the most intense haunted house there is. No matter what way you look at it, very well done. It never gets old.
Awesome video. Was just added to the 3D TRIP VR group on FB. Cheerz

Pretty good; again, with the repetitive music, it really could have been clipped to 3 minutes. But fun, especially as a background thing. Amazing what you can render in real time on a Playstation 2! :P

I think a reupload of this could be in order possibly? I loved the original, I've loved it for years, but I think of visual polish could help. Heck, I'd say just re-recording the animation in a higher quality would be good enough.
This video was published 6 days before my birthday.

@@RCTFORME Hey, thanks for the support! You too, fam!
Your animusic it's cool
hey man, if you put together like 30+ minutes of videos like this, and stitch them onto a DVD (with a seamless song-to-song transition would be even better) that would TOTALLY be worth paying for. Pair HD graphics with super Hi-quality audio on DVD and you've got a winner for sure
Massive! The slightly dirty and corroded surface of the machines fits nicely - this is a place of work.
@Julibugs357 I'm working on my 2nd music video right now, though I've hit a major snag due to offline life issues and my lack of ability to get to my computer :p I do hope to complete at least this and one more music video at some point, though I don't know if I'll ever be good enough to make them worth selling. We'll see, though.
Personally, I think it could do with being longer. Around 06:30, when the sparking pipe comes back in, you could make that start the tune up again, but maybe a different tempo or something?
cheea ! Liked it!! 5* :D
Looks like something right out of Bioshock
Is it possible that you could remaster this? I'd love to see it in high quality so I can see everything going on better.
Cybertron Disco Club ;)
Genial
If only music could fight back darkness this easy. LOL. Awesome stuff though.
Wow verry difrent from animusic but verry similar i like it.
Kind of reminds me of. construction machines going hammering away !
...Are you still working on it? I'd love to see another Animusic video from you. This video is the only one I found on KZread that I think rivals Wayne Lytle himself! But anyway, are you still working on Dream Sequence (Galactic Academy)? Just the title sounds like it would make a great Animusic video. I'm mainly asking because in the description it says that Dream Sequence will come out in February 2010 so that would make me wonder if you're still working on it. By the way, I'd buy it too. =D
This sounds like some street fight esque background music
I need those synths assigned to the lights around the central spinner and the pipe that keeps leaking sparks (because I can hear a synth under those electric sawblade sounds).
