GSAP is a platform rather than a library. More mature and widely used. Example of cool features that are not available in anime.js are physics plugin, webgl, canvas animation. However, anime.js is very lightweight (17KB) and super easy to learn and use. Actually, if your animation isn't that complex, you won't see much difference between GSAP and anime.js

I have little experience with GSAP, but I found anime.js much easier to get started with. The API and documentation are really straight forward, and so far everything I've tried to do with it succeeded with minimal effort.

d3 is for data visualization rather than animation

I hope the creator release the season 2 for this.

in most cases CSS would be ok, but if I had to do any complex animation specially for a game I would rather use anime.js

This lib is a bit low-level, may be you need some design tool with js runtime, such as spine, live2d, or adobe animate
