So glad she got to watch this, i did recommend in a comment but not sure if she saw it, but i would 100% recommend NOT to bother with No4 ... it was just a money making rehash and not fit to stand with the original ..

Agreed, in my opinion it's the best short in the Animatrix by far which is saying a lot because they're all pretty fantastic in their own way.

Another suggestion: "Ghost in the Shell" (the animated movie from 1995, not the other movie from 2017) is another very cool and classic movie. I think it was one of the many inspiration for The Matrix.

I can't lie.. 21 years later and this is still one of the best pieces of media I've ever seen

My fave.

What I love about Animatrix is that as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate this collection more and more. For instance in that episode called "Beyond" where the girl with the red hair is out looking for her cat, you can see that she and a bunch of kids in the neighbourhood have kind found a glitch in the matrix which is why so many weird things happened such as loss of gravity etc. Most of this stuff is up for interpretation but what I feel like I've realized is that the more vague and over the top the weird phenomenon gets the more their minds get freed from The Matrix. So when she was looking through the door here 20:40 I imagine shes basically peering into the echos of her own mind and seeing the darkness that her real self is seeing with her eyelids closed. So basically she is looking through her real eyes for the first time and hearing the echos of her own mind. I don't know if this is making any sense. But again its all up for interpretation.

This was such an amazing compendium to the original trilogy. And it's awesome you're actually watching it, most people skip it or don't even know it exists lol

I remember watching this back in the early 2000s. Such memories! Kid's Story and Beyond were my absolute favourite. It's a shame we haven't seen many more anthologies like this.

All the different art and animation styles along with how beautiful and world building each story is make this a masterpiece

The part where that guy was getting yanked out of his suit losing his limbs screaming is the stuff of nightmares.

I remember when this came out, I was so blown away. For context, the directors/writers for each short story and their animation production teams were - and in some cases still are - some of the biggest powerhouses of the anime world.

It's a rare treat to see an Animatrix reaction! I love animated anthologies thanks to this. I became obsessed with watching every one based on a series I love like Halo: Legends and Batman: Gotham Knight.

Wow, I love that you watched this! I have the DVD but it's been so long since I watched this, almost all of it feels totally new to me. The parts I remember are "Program" (not the story, but the stark animation) and in particular "Beyond", which is such a beautiful, peaceful, innocent, dream-like story. It's been stuck in my head all this time, decades later. I'd forgotten all the other stories and animation styles but WOW, so many of them are so striking and amazing. It's a shame you don't really see animation like that anymore.

Criminally overlooked by far too many, glad you had the opportunity to experience it. Great talent on display here.

My favorite thing about the Animatrix is the soundtrack. Especially Who Am I? and Beyond, they're just such masterpieces, I've listened to both for hours on repeat. Anything by Juno Reactor is also amazing and I LOVE Ren 2 by Photek (2:50 in the video) as well. Just this whole soundtrack was incredible.

The short film WORLD RECORD is probably my favorite of the bunch. You have to recall that the Matrix traps people within the 'bounds' of a world built on rules. But, humans have an inate desire to 'push the boundaries', to overcome limitations and 'rules'. And when that happens, the people cane force themselves to reject the falsity of the Matrix world programming. That very concept is dangerous to the machines, as the people can wake themselves up. That is why the Agents try ro prevent those anomalies.

The shorts "The Final Flight of The Osiris" and "Kid's Story" lead directly into The Matrix Reloaded. "Osiris" shows how the humans discover that the machines are tunneling toward Zion and their desperate attempt to relay a warning of the impending attack. "Kid's Story" is...the story of The Kid from Reloaded and Revolutions. It shows how he freed himself from The Matrix (a truly rare feat) after he was inspired by Neo. "The Second Renaissance Part 1 and 2" are probably the most info-heavy because they reveal the truth of how the war between humans and machines began, how it destroyed the world, and how The Matrix came to be in all of its brutal and tragic detail. Though Morpheus says that the humans don't know or remember how the war began, the info is presented as part of Zion's archives, implying that it is protected confidential knowledge that even someone as important as Morpheus doesn't have access to. They likely don't want the people of Zion to know just how responsible humans were for starting the war.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone react to this. Much like the trilogy, most of the shorts leave a lot of room for interpretation. Most people bought this for The Final Flight of the Osiris, since it preludes _Reloaded._ But the real gem is _The Second Renaissance,_ with _Beyond_ being a personal close second.

I'm glad you reacted to the animatrix, and to be honest the second renaissance part 2 is my favorite.

20:00 These are all glitches in the Matrix. For whatever reason this "haunted" house is filled with them.

”I expect Trinity to kick Smith’s ass” … but that’s just the thing - before Neo, everyone that had fought an agent had died. It was possible to run from them and escape, but no-one was supposed to be able to really fight them. Funnily, though, even the first Matrix-movie contradicted itself regarding this by having Trinity shoot an agent while they were rescuing Morpheus, so … we can’t really take everything said in the movies at face value :-/

Sorry, but that's incorrect... Final Flight of Osiris leads directly into the story of the SECOND movie, Reloaded. That's why all the captains meet in the first act; to discuss what the data drop has revealed about the machines plan to attack in full force. So in plot order, you'd have to watch it in between the first and second movie. Then, you should play the video game Enter the Matrix WHILE watching the second movie, because the game's plot runs in parallel to it, showing it from the perspective of Niobe, Ghost and Sparks. Of course, almost no one ever does that😅

The Animatrix definitely hits different and very deeply, in part from sheer shock value.

Love this collaboration, must've watched it dozens of times. A good watch back in the day while waiting for Reloaded to release since the Kid and the Osiris are directly referenced. Such a cool idea, multiple short stories in the same universe, animated in different styles by different artists. Final Flight of the Osiris was done by Square Studios which was built to create the Final Fantasy: Spirits Within movie, in the hopes they'd make many more, then it failed miserably. But the tech they developed was used for that one.

Finally, it’s about time you watch the Animatrix. Excellent animation, great stories, my favorites are “a detective story” and “world record”. I still got the original DVD that was released. Also, technically, you shouldn’t watch final flight of the Osiris before matrix reloaded.

This really influenced the love, death and robots show which is also really good. Animatrix is so good especially them first two stories of how it all started ..so haunting as well

I saw this many times from different sources and its always started from "Final flight of Osiris". Thats why it have logo "Animatrix" before title but all others haven't. Don't know why you watched it at the end 🤔

Animatrix's dystopic world is exactly like LOVE DEATH ROBOTS . have u watched ?

The short movie where they try to convince the machine to switch sides shows how they carefully "disassemble" the ghost of the machine from its body so only its personality exists in the simulation and then they frighten it before helping it, which makes the machine realize that (these) humans are not bad. It looks trippy but it is very well written, actually.

If Only you could get your hands on Enter the Matrix the videogame…

time code: 6:20 - the "machine ambassador" is, "the oracle". the m.a. sentient program was transferred before the explosion, & had survived. the architect, used that m.a. program, upgraded it to "the oracle", to help him create the matrix 3.0. the oracle, regretted the death of millions from the united nations' bomb attack & promised to help the humans... along with some of the machines, who regretted killing the humans. all the machines/programs have their individual personality but must comply with the architect's demands. the architect, has to let certain imperfections happen, to keep matrix 3.0 program running, even though it hates it.

Un-ironically we are actully walking towards the Second renaissance with Open A.I. and Sora and Google's Gemini and Adobe's A.I. and Microsoft's A.I. We are losing thousands of jobs and its starting to move from VFX to other industries and even scientists are already starting to ask to the governments to regulate this and they won't do it. We are walking one step at the time to the Second renaissance.

The Animatrix was made after the first movie. The fact that it introduces a contradiction doesn't mean Morpheus was lying. It was probably supposed to be true when they first wrote the line. Besides, even if these facts are recorded in the Zion Archives, that doesn't mean they're common knowledge.

The fourth one is real shit. There's a lot of movie to see before that Have you seen Gattaca, Falling down or La vita è bella? Life is too short for shit movies. Waste it on somethinhg good!
