This brings to the forefront a long time fan favorite Chapter of these Astartes which don't really see a ton of fanfare in the novels/lore, really. The Salamanders are an extremely beloved Chapter, because of their abundance of humanity (a lot of Astartes sort of kinda lose this when they become transhuman super soldiers - it's part of the conversion), ontop of Sa'kan being a Primaris (the new generation of Astartes - the ones from Astartes are the original Marines - so much lore there, hard to really condense). They are, bar none, my favorite Chapter - because they're as dangerous and driven as other Astartes, but they're also so "kind" and "caring" compared to some other Chapters. This series, Pariah Nexus, is absolutely a treat to watch. I love it. The fact it uses Salamanders? Makes it even better. Big difference in the main characters of the show are the "simplier" looking female is an Imperial Guardsman, she has similar gear to Cadian Shock Troops - she looks less bad ass, but Shock Troops are VERY adapt at defenses/sieges and deep assault tactics. The woman who is praying is one of the Adeptas Sororitas, the Sisters of Battle - she is like, a non-genetically modified, indoctrined, highly trained human soldier in power armor similar to Astartes, but smaller in scale (and thus protection) - she is a HIGHLY capable militant arm of the Ordo Hereticus (they hunt Traitors to the Imperium); she's essentially a Warrior Nun in power armor. And Sa'kan is a Primaris Astartes - the last line of defense in the hellscape of the 41st Millennia for Humanity; they are the Angels of the Emperor of Mankind, and they are His righteous might and glory made flesh to protect the Imperium of Mankind against the Traitor, the Heretic, the Mutant and the Alien; they are bastions of combat excellence, and they know no fear - if there's an Astartes there, things are VERY bad. The framing of the Astartes beneath the Emperor's Statue is because a common term for the Space Marines are "His Angels" and "The Emperor's Angels of Death". They use a TON of angelic panolopy when referring to the Astartes - seeing them by the regular populance is a huge deal; in space filled with a million worlds and trillions of humanity, Astartes are almost mythological in their frequency of sighting. There's only a few million Astartes in existence, at max (separated into 1000 man Chapters, strew across the galaxy).

This "machines" 60 million years ago was a necrontyr race. They were alive once, although they lived in horrible radioactive planet. So lifespan of average necrontyr was like 20-30 years. So they want to be immortal. And they make an deal with the Star Gods. But Star Gods betrayed necrontyr race and eating their flesh and souls, turning them into unwilling robotic slaves to serve their will. Necrontyr have became soulless Necrons. And in the end, necrons went out of controll of the Star Gods and enslaved them all. So now they try to reconquered the Galaxy.

@@ChompStudioTo throw some context for the full strength of the current Necron empire/dynasties, many Necrons essentially lost something from the transfer to machine and from the great sleep. The strongest willed Necrons lost emotions and memories whereas the weakest lost any clarity of who they were resembling husks. At their peak the Necrons were one of the strongest factions splitting the star gods, to give you the idea of size and power of a star god and such a feat, a large enough shard could easily destroy a planet so you can get the size required to bring low many full sized star gods. To add in some tragedy for the Necrons, they had the chance to survive naturally if given aid by the ancients (lizard/frog in appearance) who held great domination over the galaxy but instead they said essentially "We don't like giving out such power, this is just the course of nature" and created the Eldar (Elves), Qorks now orks (You can take a guess) + maybe humanity (Theorised but the timeline does not make sense alongside purpose) in response to the vengeful now machine Necrons waging a grand scale war with the star gods as allies.(War of heavens or something similar). Then at the end of the war, the pieces were set into play with Qorks devolving without any strong opponents, the Necrons asleep to wait out the defeat of the Aeldari, and the Eldar partying too hard until they collapsed (Hard to explain, a realm of magic the warp wrought into shape by experienced emotions and belief such as faith or devotion formed a God of excess from Eldar actions and ended up damning them, any weird phenomenon and magic most likely ties down to the warp and is why the prayers of Humanity do occasionally work and why the Sisters of Battle are able to manifest luck due to extreme and combined faith) making room for Humanity and from there everything culminates to the current story with every faction trying to get back to full capacity but are misguided and starting at square 1 over and over again. Waking up btw the Necrons had to hope something bad wouldn't destroy their "tomb worlds" but things do destroy them and as of yet they have not all awoken yet

Yeah, Sa'kan is one of the Sons of Vulkan, from the planet Nocturne. He is of the 5th Company of the Salamanders (they pay homage to this in a later episode, with is referenced when someone comments on Sa'kan being injured) - the 5th Company specialize in hunting the drakes of Nocturne, which is why when you have a monster/large construct issue, these are the Salamanders you want to show up. Into the fires of battle, unto the anvil of war!

The question about how they keep building stuff, the time line for 40k is extremely long and the universe is, well the size of the milky way galaxy, so not every planet has even seen xeno forces or might never again see them after a conflict for 10s, 100s or even 1000s of years. plus the sheer numbers of the humans is insane, planets with billions and billions of people on them, whole worlds and systems dedicated to production of 1 or so key resources, the imperium of man is so insanely vast haha everything 40k is just dialed up to 11 glad you're enjoying it!

I don't know if you're still reading comments but if you are, then I will dump some lore here and ask a few questions. Getting into Warhammer is a lot but it can be a lot of fun learning about the new stuff. First, the big super soldiers you've been calling "Ultramarines" go by many names such as "Space Marines", "Adeptus Astartes", "The Emperor's Angels." etc. So if you hear those, then think about them as referring to space marines as a whole. Following that, space marines are broken up in to separate chapters which differentiate them from each other and each chapter has a distinct feel and personality. The Ultramarines are one chapter, often characterized by a lot of blue and are the poster boys of Warhammer 40k. They got a lot of flack because they show up a lot. The Salamanders, which is the space marine that showed up at the end of the first episode are another chapter. They typically wear green and black, and love fire. This is juxtaposed with their unique characteristic of being an incredibly self-less chapter. Out of all of the chapters of Space Marine's, only the Salamanders will go out of their way to save civilians. Some of the other chapters (like Ultramarines) will try to prevent civilian deaths while some will actively ignore civilians. Therefore the Salamander's are considered the most "human" of the Space Marines by some. Second, there was a bit you guys talked about with the gun fire and how you felt the guns in Astartes didn't compare to the guns that the Sister of Battle was using, there is a reason for that. The bolter's that the space marine's use are special made and are much larger than what a normal human can use. This is because the recoil on a full bolter is so strong that it could rip the arm off a normal human. This could be a reason why the impact is lessened for the bolter that the sister is using. It also seems to be a big problem across the different forms of Warhammer media because the "feel" of a bolter never seems to be the same and it's like some cinematic's don't quite understand that it's shooting large explosive rounds. I'll be curious in the upcoming episodes if you think they properly convey the weight of the gun fire. Finally, on the subject of weight, I'll be curious about your thoughts on the way the space marine's are portrayed and how they feel when they move. Space marine's are meant to be 8 foot tall super soldiers with augmented power suits. One of the quotes about them is "Nothing that big should move that fast." They are also move in very uncanny ways, like when they aim, it almost feels like they have aim hack on. Where any normal marksmen would have to take a split second to aim, breathe, and shoot, it's like they turn and shoot in the same second. This speed and power seems to be difficult to balance with the sheer weight of them. (Remember they are 8 feet tall, with 22 extra organs, and wearing armor so heavy it can shrug off tank rounds sometimes.) Do you think they strike a good balance between the weight and the speed, and is there anything you might suggest to portray that better? Anyways, I liked the video and if you do read this, I hope it helps!

Always reading the comments friend....thanks so much for the lore info! In terms of the weight, I think the subtle "settling" that Astartes had, as well as the sound design made them feel larger than life and heavy....I need to see what this new Space Marine at the end of Episode 1 feels like in the rest of the series to get a better feel for it....but so far so good I think! Ill try to mention these key points from this first review, in the review of episode 2! Thanks again!

Surprisingly Warhammer isn't always fighting as much as lore, games, and videos shows. Majority of books or where lore comes from are generally lots of talkig and extremely character driven/world building more so than fighting, so I say the lack of fighting makes a lot of sense but as someone that also came from Astartes it really is jarring. Like learning about the lore and how things work makes me think that majority of Warhammer is over the top action with lots of violence but when you start reading the books (these are generally how the story of Warhammer continues) it really is a lot of talking and world building

The guard can be military police but most guard units are basically regular soldiers armed with massed produced armor and weapons compared the sisters of battle and space marines. But you shouldn’t put them down as red shirts (which tbf they are most of the time) due to the horus hersey, Roboute Guilliman (the blue space marine gene father) disbanded the space marine legions (which consisted of 100,000 to 200,000 men depending on legion) into smaller “chapters” of 1000. So in the imperium of millions of worlds seeing even just one is super rare this means on most worlds under attack its the imperial guard fighting the terrors of the galaxy alone with usually no help so billions of regular men and women fight across a hundred worlds for mankind’s survival.

NO! DON'T DO IT! Lore is a rabbit hole! I fell in over decade ago and I'm still stuck! Run and get rope! There really isn't many good (professional) 40K animations out there. I think the Dawn of War 3 intro is the best, but it was done by Blur, so you know.... Kind of annoying it took GW this long to tap into animation but that's their prerogative. Wish they gave all their teams more time though. Hammer and Bolter screams they needed more tweening time. Guess quicky on the spooky robot aliens, they are Necons and they are for the most part damaged souls trapped in living metal bodies. I'm really simplifying but they are people for want of a better term. I think the question of how they have time to rebuild is shown in one of the hot bed planets in the Imperium, Armageddon. Which why would you name a planet that? seems like it's asking for trouble. Anyways, the planet has had 5 kind of catastrophic wars, first being in 000.M30 (how dates work in 40k is the M part is millennium 30 the 000 is how far in that millennium we are in years Earth standard) second 1500 years later in 544.M32. Then another almost 9000 years later in 444.M41, then in 941.M41 and 998.M41. So there are vast periods of time between wars on any 1 planet, there are just a lot of planets and, well they are planets. So, you still get stories where whole systems can go dark but still have many sectors of the galaxy that are fine. I think it's interesting on your compression on the Guardswoman and the Sister. It's kind of like that from a lore perspective. The Guard being, here's your cheap massed produced gun and armor, get on the line. Where the Sisters of Battle get the finest equipment out there. You do have Guard characters that are important but even those don't look crazy when you put them next to the religious nut wearing power armor that they stuck bibles and candles to it for some reason. I do think the other problem with that is the lore is such a rabbit hole, you need to do scenes where you're just talking. Like even here, I don't know every Sister of Battle order. This one I know is from the Order of Our Martyred Lady, but if she was from the Order of the Bloody Rose I would have nothing on what to expect. If it was any other coven, well I don't even know their names. Besides there is a lot of ways they can interpret their beliefs. Like Our Martyed Lady is all about martyrdom, but should they be an example or do they think others should do the same? If they don't, should you have understanding or are they faithless filth fit only to be redeemed by the flame? Even here the interactions between the Guardswoman and the Sister is weird if you know the lore so you're getting something either way. Necron Deathmarks are kind of busted. As I understand it, they can just hide in another dimension but still track their prey. So you can't hurt or see them until they pop out and try to take a shot at you. Plus their weapon just ignores armor completely and is suppose to be instant death against anything with a nervous system. Should mention that all space marines do the same thing more or less. They all have their own culture, battle tactics, color scheme ect. In the case of the Space Wolves, for example they have their own language, calling themselves Vlka Fenryka which should translate to Wolves of Fenris but everyone just called them Space Wolves and they gave up correcting people. There are a lot of chapters that more or less have the same implants. Imo the Ultramarines are the best because they are the poster boys of the franchise and they had a long stent of really bad writing and the fact they line their armor with plot-tanium. Really they are well rounded compared to other chapters but they are no stronger physically than other chapters. Yeah everyone repeats the red bull can. Bolters fire a .75 cal round which is about 19mm in diameter so around the size of a small 20mm grenade or 2 AAA batteries. problem is it's rocket propelled, armor piercing, and it's designed to explode inside the target. I feel the animation team has that problem where bolters should blow off limbs or leave craters in people's chest but it's have to make all that gory stuff on a budget. Also, "Is fighting for the Emperor bad?!" HERESY!!
