+The Art of Aaron Blaise Hi Aaron :) I'm a young art and animation enthusiast and have started to do my first, very simple 2d animations. my animations are only 2 seconds long as it is a lot of work and i admire how much love and talent you put into your art ! my question is what is in your opinion the best starting point when it comes to learning the basics of animation ? by the way i'm using a light tablet and pen and paper as i admire truly hand drawn animation though it's a bit impractical :) thanks in advance, hope you find time to respond !!

Thank you again Mr. Blaise! You are just like your wonderful film, Brother Bear: fantastic!
I got interested in animation after watching Lion King, and in later years I tried to replicate some stuff myself with digital tools like Flash. The result were not very satisfactory, yet clients were happy. But after watching these videos, I am starting fresh by working on core drawing skills. Such an honour to learn from your videos Mr.Blaise.
One of the most helpful videos I've ever seen, thanks Aaron!
This animation channel is my lifeline. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us!
While i don't want to do animation itself, i am trying to learn as much as i can about it and practice it here and there, cause i feel like it would be very helpful for drawing comic books....I want to capture that sense of motion and fluidity in my panels, especially action sequences. I want to my drawings and illustrations to have life, which is what i often see in drawings and illustrations done by animators.
Oh my! this is go amazing :P
I can't believe I did not know of your channel until recently. Thank you so much for making these videos!
A truly Master. With a capital M. I call myself an animator, but you have no idea how much I envy your talent... thanks for sharing it.
My god! THIS IS SO GOOD! Thank you Aaron Blaise!
Aaron you are an absolute machine! Mind blowing!!
Good job and thank you for sharing these tips regarding animation and being more dynamic.
Thanks Aaron. You're an inspiration for us all as an artist. I Hope reach your skills some day.

This Is Awesome ! Thank you!!
Really great stuff... thanks.
I love it! Thank you so much!
Great! More videos like this would be highly appreciated!
I haven't animated anything in a while because I have been so busy with my social painting classes. I graduated from college with my BFA in Computer Animation. This makes my want to start a new project to add to my portfolio. I hope that one day with a lot of hard work to get a job in the animation field.
This was very helpful! Thank you!
I would love to see you do some canine anatomy tutorials, and getting that to really come out when painting and drawing. I have a hard time trying to highlight muscles and getting back legs correct. Also i struggle with long , chunky fur ( like a wolf's neck).Lastly I would like to see you how you would draw different breeds of dogs.

Sensational! And I laughed enjoying your son's own talent.
You Da Man Aaron! Happy Thanksgiving !!
Great tip! So funny! Definitely will think about this!
Very useful, very watcher-friendly video. Keep it up!
This is fantastic! I briefly touched upon the squash and stretch method during a course for CGI, but I wanted to explore animation more thoroughly. I'm so very pleased I discovered your channel :-). Now to watch more of your videos!
So glad I found this channel :D
Learn a lot :D Happy Thanksgiving and really expect the next lesson !!!
We are doin a lipsync for the first time in school, this is gonna help me and my classmates soooooooo much!!! :) thanks!!
Awesome video
That is a glorious beard you have, Aaron. Also, another great video! Thanks so much
Thank you for this. I'm learning allot :D
Thank you 😀
happy thanksgiving mr. blaise!
Oh, my.... INDEED! 0.o I also miss the classic squash and stretch on animation, but I guess there's a lot of implications underneath, like... we live in a time where productions must to be as fast to make as possible, cut out animation and such. Thank you so much for another great lesson! :D
I really enjoyed this :) I'd love for you to do a video on walk cycles!
I'd really like to see more videos about performance. How do you think of what to have a character do with their hands; shift their weight exec. You touched on this some in the video about your work on Mulan, but I would like to see a variety of examples. P.S. I love these videos. It's great to see someone who knows what they're doing who also knows how to teach.
Wow this helps me more I was wondering how i could do stretch and squash technique thanks for sharing :>
nice beard Aaron! Thanks for this again and again
This was amazing.. it would be great if you could show us a similar movement with realistic/semi-realistic character..
thank you
MONSTER!!
Oh my~
Wow! This is amazing and helpful! Do you think you could show how you make such cartoony, non dead looking characters. I feel like my drawings looks really 'still'!
Im not into animation but this is so amazing
i have a suggestion, could you possibility make a video on clean up animation? like inking it and coloring it and such? because those kinds of tutorials are rare for frame by frame animation.
well, i think that this would be an interesting question: about the hair and how much it should react because of head movement, not a question about the secondary movement, but more about how much and when it really should move. or even how to make very very fast movement, like a 10 punch combo in 2 seconds you see on these fighting games, you would have very limited frames available to illustrate this and make it "work". i heard about smears or "stretched inbetween" but for more than 3 consecutive actions?
Hey Aaron, I was wondering if you could do an Animation tutorial on how to keep your characters in the same proportions. I've got problems with this because one frame a character is smaller than the next frame. Thanks in advance!
This is going to help a lot with some amateur animation :)
This is awesome. Animation is so great. Do you like TVP better than other 2D software like Flipbook or Flash, and why?
Thanks. :,)
Do you have any tutorials about animating facial hair?
aron when you started painting animals, did you look a model (a photo r a real animal)? or all its in your head? Love your art tips
can you do a lesson aboute how to draw the emotions of a character for animation
do you animate this traditionally and scan it into a computer, or do you sketch it all out on your software
Thank you for these amazing tutorials! I'm looking forward to learn animation with you!! It's very exciting! . . . . .Oh!. . . . Just a question: I subscribed to your newletter with my ".edu" account, also because it said you could receive a coupon for discounts... But I guess it was an old add... Will you be having new discounts for students? :) thanks a million!
Aaron, could you make this sequence available for download for study purposes?
i have a question. if you finish a drawing, do you ever say to yourself "damn this turned out so good" :D i tried drawing a pumpkin on photoshop and i was surprised by myself. now i'm wondering if you sometimed surprise yourself with your art, too?

+All About my FuFu Had the same thing yesterday. Drew a living pencil character (comparable to the living objects from Beauty and the Beast, but in this case it's a pencil) as part of my graphic design course, but instead of doing the usual and inking black outlines and such, I tried digital painting and using shadow and light to define the shapes and it worked out great! It was my first crack at it and although there are some mistakes here and there, it looks really great for a first time job in that style. Now I want to do a lot more things like that, I'm just so pumped now :D

+Nathan Roberts Yeah, it's a cool feeling.....but i also hate it when it happens...it feels like a fluke, really. If i can't draw it on a whim, i feel like i am not in controll. I don't wanna be like "Oh, this TURNED OUT well..."...I wanna be able to make awesome stuff when i want to make awesome stuff....so i kinda hate the word "turned out".....it feels like it was just a lucky moment or something.

Xandredarium I get that. But I think it's just the reaction you have when you're working on something or try something new and realise it works out better than expected. Everyone has a certain idea of what the finished image will be, and when it's finished and looks even better than what was in your head it's a pretty good feeling.
I was wondering what animation program you were using
how would you draw a majestic wolf, could you make a video?
Chreat channel… Aaron, please can you tell me:What type of microphone do you use, and what is the name of the program you use for voice recording?
That Lion is like the Shere khan of the African Savannah
What software software do you use to animate?
What is the program that you use to animate?
Just a quick question-when animating dialogue, some animators stress not opening the mouth more than twice in a line- by that I mean in the 'Oh' and 'My' the mouth is closed at those points, especially on the 'M' of the 'My'. Is that a rule or can it be broken?
Vocal fry, haha cool video very informative
Do you only do 2d animation.
Mettaton would also be a good character to animate for that line
I know this sounds stupid but is there anyway to do lipsync without the audio in the software? I currently use GIMP (I'm trying to save up for TVPaint) and there's no way to import audio so I'm a bit stuck when it comes to animating dialogue...

***** Thanks for replying! I've actually just completed a lip sync animation using an X-sheet and I think it went pretty well ^-^
I don't need to tell you how incredible you are, Aaron. A great help for a beginner, like I am. Since you ask, what would you advise for 2D videogame idle animations? For game animation, it's convenient to work in small loops, so we don't get the luxury of camera angles or dialogue, to breathe life into the character while they're not running around. Sometimes this is counteracted by a ton of bouncing or exaggerated heaving breaths, fists clenching and unclenching (especially in fighting games). Some platformers, since the old days, have a very still idle pose (Disney's Hercules for example) and then a number of secondary idle animations that are very entertaining to look at (www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/37/39527.png). My question is, since I know you are not a fan of overanimating, how still is too still for you? Just blinking here and there, enough? If there's no shape change in the character at all, can idle animations every once in a while save the day? Would you hide the stillness in the character by making the whole game screen more alive? I'm super interested in hearing your approach as a master animator. Thank you so much for everything you're doing
tanks for the art tip! I'll take it to heart. ^^ also if you could maybe make a lesson on how to draw human female characters, because I think I draw males pretty ok, but I just don't know how to draw females right, can you help me please?
