In this After Effects motion graphic tutorial we are going to be taking a look at how to create abstract looping GIFs that have become popular on Twitter and Instagram. The looping abstract shape layers include a number of unique effects that result in a vintage looping animation.

Adobe After Effects 2019 (AE 2019) is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.
CINEMA 4D R20 is a 3D modeling, animation, motion graphic and rendering application developed by MAXON Computer GmbH in Germany. It is capable of procedural and polygonal/subd modeling, animating, lighting, texturing, rendering, and common features found in 3D modelling applications.

    It's a unique perspective. Typically I animate with a particular outcome in mind. However, this method really requires experimentation and the outcome is always unique.

    hmm I feel like s_timeslice (a borisfx effect) would be helpful for skipping the first part of the tutorial. I understand that not everyone has access to this though. Great video!

    Mine doesnt loop well. When I put it 1.5" after the other, it just gets cut off on the left side and then I can just see the upper layer. What did I do wrong? I followed all the steps.

    So, mine wasn't workint too, I fixed by gatting back to the normal timeline and selecting the two keyframes, then I did the alt+click and loopOut()

    When I change the Light Reception to Cutout, my solid turns totally white. Any idea why :/ ?

    I think its basically just the alpha at that point. You can put a tint on each layer by itself to really customize the color palette.

    just in case anyone else is watching this in the future I had the same problem... for me the fix was to start the project over from scratch and make sure to set my original New Project background to be BLACK where before my default was WHITE, probably a leftover setting from the last tutorial I did...
