I respect the fact that you keep it honest while inspiring future animators to keep at it. One thing that sticks with me from another video Olof made is “ while practicing figure drawing why not make an animation with those sequences “. Much respect @ Olof

One point in particular stood out for me: keeping the process a little loose and allowing some freedom in changes (even in the last steps). Coming from a one-man production mindset I always found it tedious to work down my task list when I started out "top down", structured everything beforehand and had the expectation to stick to it completely. Similarly to Olof I found that keeping some things open for happy accidents helps the long term motivation massively, as there are still things in the process to discover!

Thanks so much for this insight! I'm working on something myself and am currently in the writing stage; I totally get what you mean about forcing yourself outside to focus better. It's been really interesting seeing how you break down a project into scenes and shots, especially the stages of blocking! Really looking forward to more in this series in particular!

Hi, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart......all these years after having learnt animation about thirteen years ago and drifted through life without having done anything that satisfies me......today after watching this video I realized what I really like to do for life......this video has inspired me to even start writing a short sequence to animate on my own. I dreamt imagined and longed to do something I liked to do but nothing materialised because everything remained as thoughts. Now I know what I really like to do....... though I like all kinds of animation yet hayao miyazaki animation stood out for me......your animation is of similar style........I am not looking to please someone or make money out of my work or develop portfolio to get a job........yet I don't know why I didn't do it for all these years........now I will really start something small for self and finish it.......I Will share it here as well just as acknowledgement and gratitude to this video. Thank you so much.......🙏

Currently in my project, I'm stuck in the story writing process. I wrote the beginning with a series of events leading to part 2 but now I feel stuck because, this part will be going into the fantasy world. I had a general idea of what I wanted for the world but didnt REALLY work on it. I'm also undecided on the art style I want to use as well. For a few months I was set on anime, my problem is my characters look great, but my backgrounds don't lmao I think I'm going to start playing around with different cartoon styles to see what fits. I like your pre-production process, for myself I will need to create storyboards as a base. It's great that you don't need to do that and still stay focused. Also I LOVE that excel sheet you have, can I use that for myself? I think staying organized that way will help a lot for me :) And thank you Olof! This is what I was looking for (commenting on another video yesterday with this question) ^_^

Here's a tip that I'm going to share with most animators who are doing this on their own. And that is to reduce the time from the standard and or traditional way! You don't need to follow what has been cemented in the traditional sense. What you need to do is reduce the time of your projects then and only then would you be able to manage it! For example if a episode is about 22 minutes long you want to reduce it not one time but three times 1/3 of the time that it takes to create one full animation one full episode of 22 minutes or basically 24 minutes. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. If you're working with a small team then you reduce the time to 11 minutes that's half of the 22 minutes that an episode usually runs for. Now if you're working by yourself you reduce it yet again from 11 so that leaves you with 5.3 minutes. Now you'll be able to tell your story how you want it we would have to make some sacrifices though and that is that a lot of these animated series have a bunch of fillers to the story that aren't really part of the store main story line kind of like one piece how there's so many different types of fillers before they get to the actual part for the fight well when it comes to this you're going to have to make some sacrifices there and probably reduce that a lot make it fast make it simple make it less! This is how we can adopt a new norm for solo Developers!
