I'm not even an arm chair general but it looks like the northern attack was a distraction and hail mary to capture the capitol. Although it would have been an accomplishment for Russia, securing the southern border to fortify their access to the black sea was the real objective. The northern assault also could of provided information about Ukrainian strength and willingness to defend the capitol for the next time Russia attacks. If they push as far as Odesa, they could land lock Ukraine and dictate their access to the sea for decades or centuries to come.

It was for sure a distraction. Russia already got what they wanted from the war. They have all of eastern & southern Ukraine, secured access to the sea. Ukraine at this point will just be grinded down into a “rump state” from which it will slowly become smaller & less influential over the next decades.

You don't even know Ukraine signed a peace agreement, Russia pulled back it's forces, and then Ukraine moved into those territories because Ukraine is ruled by CIA installed nazis. The rest you see ukraine doing its counter offensive and getting no where.

That’s not what’s happening here. Russia isn’t making any gains and literally running through all of its resources, military equipment and trained soldiers, over an almost 3 year period of time. Its entire original army of 400k soldiers has now died and it is using 1950s tanks with conscripted untrained soldiers on the front lines as cannon fodder

i forgot russia set out to capture all of ukraine early on, i suppose they'd say it was temporary to prevent outside interference prolonging a settlement? the west's response has certainly lent that merit but i think it was the right response. it's the long-term goals for that region which trouble me. 🤔🤷‍♂ ??

Where did you get the idea Russia wanted to take all of Ukraine? The Russians pulled out of Kiev owing to a leave agreement reached in Turkiye in March 2022.After the Russians pulled out as part of the agreement the Ukranians reneged on it. Dont expect the Russians to agree to any more. The use of localised Nuclear weapons has been floated in Russua.. We all don't want that.

@@redguy3256 the Ukrainian army would definitely be too weak to resist the Russian one for so long if NATO did not pump it with weapons. And yes, no one had plans to take over Ukraine. Don't talk nonsense, yes, the war has become even bloodier than it could, but does only one country do this, and not all? Everyone who does not compromise is dragging out this war, and Russia has already offered Ukraine 1000 and once to solve everything peacefully. But of course why? Why does Ukraine need this, right?

@@terroruberalles86 I agree. The problem isn’t that Russia’s offensive was slow, the problem was that it never reached it’s objective, thus making it pathetic. Offensive military operations take time to plan and execute, not every offensive is lightning fast blitzkrieg. When the Ukrainians stop making progress, that’s when the offensive will have failed. If the Ukrainians continue to consistently make slow and steady progress and eventually reach the Azov sea, then it will have succeeded.

Same. I'm speculating it was Plan A. And if fail, then Plan B which is secure the Donbas region, while still capitalizing on Plan A as a distraction. Or Kyiv was just a decoy. Putin's objective was always just the south east territories, which is pro Russia, and also the strategic location of Odessa. There was never interest in entire Ukraine

That's why he send 3 massive army and very well armed rushing to Kiev, paratroopers landing in the airports and a lot of police units to do population control. He thought that Ukraine would collapse (like it did in 2014) and surrender in mass. He was wrong. This defeat was so big for Russia, they lost so many well trained troops and gear, that it took almost 2 years to rebuild the Russian army offensive capabilities and actually go on the offensive. Russian victories on the South East were not due to Ukrainians being occupied in the North, but to Ukrainians surrendering in the the South East (like Putin wanted). South East fell way too quickly for any Ukrainians units in the North to be of any use.

"We want to be like America" they say, "we want to invade countries". Vietnam, Irak, Afganistan - what did America in all cases? America left. Do you want to be like America? You know what to do

We, Ukrainians MUST AND WILL WIN this time. It will be better to the whole world. Slava Ukraini!

As for crimea, considering ukraine went through a CIA coup, Russia had no choice but to protect Crimea for yankee nazis. They held a referendum and they invited the international community to observe the elections. But if you need say 50 countries to come and only like 15 come, then it's not internationally recognized referendum. But it was US who did not come and ordered their vassals not to come because they know what the outcome would be, 97% overwhelming support to reunify with Russia and abandon the nazi hahol mess CIA created in kiev.

This map does not show the whole picture. At the start of the war, Russia advanced close to Kiev but it never conquered or set a strong fold in any of those places. Ukraine found that Kiev turned into an urban war and the cost for everybody would be huge, plus the new foreign troops pushed Russia back. And yes, it was more or less a setback for Russia, however, Russia turned the urban war into a war in the plains and it is ideal for Russia. Why? Because it has air superiority, missile supremacy, and ballistic. Russia could push back again the Ukranians but if the Ukranians return to Kiev, then it will put again Russia at a disadvantage.

If Russia could push Ukraine to the Dnepr river then they would. Your summary is crap because it falls way to short on many aspects of war. Russia does not have air superiority. Russia has definitly the advantage in the air but they were not able to hinder ukrainian air activity up until this day. Every Storm Shadow fired from Ukrainian planes is a proof of that. Missle supremacy does not mean anything because Russia would need way more Missles to strategicly destroy Ukrainian war economy which would not even matter while the West keeps backing Ukraine which I as a German of course support because Europe does not need Russian political stance and Putin Regime. If Russia truly wanted to get more Ground then they would not have placed excessive minefields. All Russia wants now is to clinge onto the current ground they got and hope that the West will stop support for Ukraine. Everything Russia does shows that this is their current war strategy. Europe already backed down once when Adolf Hitler reclaimed so many land and still attacked Poland. The west can not let this happen again no matter how many get fooled by Russian lies.

The vast majority of Crimeans supported annexation, I don't think the same is true of Donbass. I hope this war ends with a negotiation: Russia keeps Crimea, Ukraine gets back Donbass and stays out of NATO. A pure victory by either side would not be a victory for humanity.

Countries that have good relations with both Russia and Ukraine should buy different parts of the territory where everything is disputed and the countries would help to rebuild in order to end the conflict. It would not be peace talks since there are no real peace talks instead ending the conflict with the assistance of many countries.

The war should've ended after 1915 when it became clear throwing 500,000 men into the meat grinder didnt tip the scales at all and the home populations were beginning to starve. The only thing that stopped peace was pride on both sides, and the same lesson's playing out a hundred years later.

your entirely mistaken on your numbers while it is true that ukraine has gone through multiple waves of mobilizationbut you aren't counting the number of soldiers actuallly conscripted in total ukraine has mobilized 400.000 men mean while russia's Russia has actually gone through 3 waves of mobilization not one and has mobilized 577.000 men in total but if where actually talking total men deployed ukraine had around 200.000 active duty troops plus 300.000 resarvists this puts the ukrainians total military at 900.000 thousand now if we count casualties that number is likely differant most serious independent analysts put Ukraines losses at probably around around 100.000 KIA if we use the 3 to one rule we come out with 400.000 thousand casualties which means ukraine likely currantly has around 500.000 thousand men right now which is basically how many men the UA ministry of defense claims they have right now that casualtie figure also explains why ukraine specifically mobalized 400.000 thousand men, it was to keep their military at replacement level then their is russia prior to the war Russia had around 900.000 and then the general mobilization added 300.000 thousand men to the russian army aswell the spring call up added 143.000 and the fall conscription drive 134.000 men meaning in total 577.000 thousand men have been called up for this war since Acording to the Uk's former Secretary of State for Defence. If sane people are in power it would have been resolved earlier. As insane people are in power I won't be surprised if the war grows to a Russo NATO war or, Russo + China NATO war. The reason why war is going on is simply because the West is profiting from it, nothing else.
