It sucks when American Cartoon Network puts on literally 500 time slots of Teen Titans Go episodes and skips all of the holidays episodes. If your going to take up that many time slots, at least include all of the episodes no matter what time of the year it is.

Thing is, Christina won't listen. Say what you want about Snyder, but he listened to people. People hated the live action shows, he canceled them. People wanted Toonami back, he allowed it. He had an actual schedule on CN, and he gave a shit. Christina doesn't. I think the only way for CN to get better, is for Christina to go away.

I think cartoons should be treated as seriously as movies and videogames are nowadays. They're still telling a story and have characters, why do people in 2017 still believe that animation is just an autopilot to keep their kid silent? It's an art form that can be amazing if you actually give a shit.

Adam Modic You’re not wrong, Johnny Test was marathoned a lot when it was still airing Cartoon Network, but it wasn’t like Teen Titans Go where the network is so obsessed with that show that it’s killing shows like Regular Show and Steven Universe and inspiring more cheap reboots like Powerpuff Girls 2016, Ben 10 2016, and now Thundercats Roar. Teen Titans Go is like a drug that Cartoon Network is addicted to. Johnny Test was just a show that was popular with kids at the time and the network reran the show fairly frequently, but the network still maintained a healthy variety of shows and tried new things like Adventure Time and Regular Show.

Johnny test is bad, but it at least started off okay. The first season wasn’t full of whip cracks and they definitely tried when it came to animation, comedy, and storytelling. Teen titans go on the other hand was bad from the very beginning.

I was hoping (well not exactly) that you'd mention WHY Adventure Time was cancelled. Because the head executives of CN thought that the show was too dark for kids, so they stopped advertising completely and reduce airings. THEY PURPOSELY SABOTAGED ONE OF THEIR MOST SUCCESSFUL SHOWS. Although they didn't cancel it, Pendleton Ward wanted to end the show on his own terms not CN's Also Littlest Pet Shop WAS cancelled due to low toy sales. Hasbro admitted this.

  • @superorangecat6937

    @superorangecat6937

    6 жыл бұрын

You're pretty close on AT, but not exactly. The show got dark, and that led to a demographic shift in its fanbase. The show gained a number of older fans, but it lost a lot of the younger fans during that time. I can attest to this from personal experience. Most of the people my age stuck with or became fans of the show, while most of their younger brothers and sisters lost interest. CN's advertisers want to advertise to 0-12 year olds (generally speaking), and the show, despite having fine overall ratings, was hemorrhaging fans in this key demographic. Since AT became less attractive to advertisers, it became harder to market overall. Interestingly, the main reason why the show was even allowed to produce episodes past season 6 was because it still sold a fair amount of merchandise... in places like Hot Topic which appeal to a teenage-20 something clientele, so it was still somewhat profitable on the whole. So yes, the change in direction of the show from season 5ish on is the main stimulus for this treatment from the network, but not because the executives simply thought it was too dark for kids. In retrospect: this post ended up longer and more ranty than I wanted, yikes!

+GamerMoogle-It was good that Pendleton Ward decided he wanted to leave on his own terms (and especially after what he went through with Nick to even get Adventure Time on the air at all, I don't blame the poor guy), and given if there were any fights behind closed doors over why Adventure Time was suddenly getting the short shaft of things, I wouldn't be surprised that Ward is going to move on to greener pastures. Even as soon as Gravity Falls ended, Alex Hirsch had the good sense to get the fuck out of dodge before Disney could ruin anything. That is also a clear signal that this small animation renaissance, especially on CN, is now over. I know seven years seems like a long time but it's really not, it wasn't even a decade, and while significantly improved, I still don't consider this "renaissance" close to the heyday of 90s animation (as much as I would want to(especially because the 90s are nearing 30 years now) I really do). And right before it seemed to get started, it's pretty much over. With CN, I heard rumblings awhile ago that a "soccer mom" took over in an executive position, which could explain why around the same time that happened, both Teen Titans Go and the Powerpuff Girls remake came out. At any rate, it seems the good days are over and CN has reverted back to the malicious and callous corporate interest and now the PC/SJW movement. Terrific. As for Hasbro, while Friendship is Magic is of a higher quality of show than we're used to seeing with Hasbro, let's be straight: Hasbro's bottom line has always been about the merchandise. The only difference with Friendship is Magic is that they are a lot of good people that work hard and love this show. Even in Friendship is Magic's better years (which to me, was seasons one and two), I still couldn't shake off Hasbro's corporate evil infesting the show and it is hard to like the show because of that, even with the good stuff. And Hasbro has screwed over this show and hijacked control. Why do you think Lauren Faust really left? She claimed she felt like she didn't have any control over the show, and while she didn't name Hasbro specifically, you can read between the lines and reasonably concluded, yes, of course it was Hasbro. Hasbro originally promised her Friendship is Magic was going to be her show. They rescinded that promise, exerted far too much control where she probably felt suffocated and working as a puppet on her own, and refusing to air story ideas they deemed too dark ie. There was going to be an episode where the Mane Six found a baby pony that was adopted by another species and they would debate whether they should tell that pony that pony was adopted or not. Lauren Faust even confirmed that Cadence's real parents died to where Celestia adopted her as her niece, but good luck ever establishing that within the show. Friendship is Magic is one of the most frustrating experiences. On one hand, a lot of the staff clearly care and love what they're doing. They try so hard, I've almost never seen anyone try so hard to make a good show over a callous corporation. Unfortunately, they just never have been able to fully win out.

That character was not a self insert...I don't think. The character wasn't CREATED by the writer who he was based on. Whether or not that's a cover story by the staff is up to you, because honestly, that whole situation was so confused. There was just as much evidence against the rumor that the writer was creepy as there was for it. I'm personally going with an "innocent until proven guilty" approach, even though, honestly, I never think there's going to be concrete proof for or against it, since nobody really cares anymore. Still, whatever you believe is up to you.

This reminds me of a deviantART user who was a bit of an influence on my writing back in the day... but a lot of his reviews and articles he writes are long-winded and I find myself highly disagreeing with him. Even when I didn't disagree with him I just couldn't get behind how many was to properties I liked and his holier-than-thou rhetoric was impossible to truly stand behind. The final straw for me was an article literally title "Ducktales is Everything Wrong With Modern Reboots". I don't know what he said, I didn't read it. All I know is that the title left nothing to the imagination about what he was going to say and I know for a fact objectively he is wrong. There are things I dislike about DuckTales, there are things I prefer about the original. Like every piece of media there is going to be something worth criticizing. But to say that it is objectively the worst case scenario about how to update an old show when a year before Powerpuff Girls was remade and has done nothing but terrible decision after terrible decision is laughable. It made me regret ever looking up to this man and that's the worst feeling I could ever have.

It still burns me to no end that CN doesn't want to follow up on Galactic KND. The creator has clearly expressed interest in continuing to work with the property, which averts one of the most common problems of long running shows: old blood growing tired or leaving. They don't have to conceptualize anything new, they already pitched a pilot, and as far as the original show's style goes it's basically what TTG wishes it could be and what I consider one of the network's best uses of High Concept, Action, and even continuity-without-serial-plots. Not to mention I just find the show really creative and (ironically for its subject) a show that only got better the older I got and picked up more.

It's been 5 years now and I think I know why Cartoon Network milked Teen Titans Go so much. Around the same time this began, Warner was looking in merging with AT&T as a way to jump into the streaming market. They knew that streaming would be the future of television and began to adapt it's structure to reflect that. The problem here is that Cartoon Network acted WAY too soon and it's app did not have the ideal structure that HBO Max has (you would log in through your cable provider). Because of this, between 2016 and the launch of HBO Max, the network didn't really know what else to do besides airing Teen Titans Go as they were equally too focused on internet activity.

MrEnter, As an aspiring animator, around 21:00-22:00 is where it really grabbed my attention. I've been told not just by average people, but working animators themselves that it is better to go independent at this point because the animation industry is fucked up beyond belief. I wish there was a way to change this reality, but unfortunately, these corporation decisions and executive moves are hard to reverse and any corporate company will have its fuck ups. Sometimes I want to get into the industry as an animator TO become a voice for the artists and that their work of shows should not be abused, but like you said, you give up so much by getting into the industry in the first place. In my opinion, going independent isn't always the best option. Oh, sure, you won't have to worry about executive meddling or network restrictions, but is going on your own really the best option? Animation is expensive. Unless you really have the passion or the money, producing your show without any network backing is difficult. Oh, sure, it's totally possible. There's plenty of amateur animators on sites like KZread or Newgrounds and such with their original animations, but many of those people were incredibly passionate about what they do. Is it better to do something completely independent with the show being difficult to produce, or is it better to have your show backed with funding with it being risked being abused in some way? That's up for a debate. How many people will watch your show if it's independent? Some people will find it, and they'll share it with others if they like it, but in a huge pool online, one independent animated show is just one drop in a bucket. It's really up to luck what animations online become popular. Things like Eddsworld and Charlie the Unicorn were lucky. Can you be just as lucky? Signing up with a network might make you have to give up your intellectual property, but as long as you're willing to accept that risk, you can also feel confident you will get more exposure on your show. Yes, there's definitely advantages to going independent, but there's disadvantages too, just as much as there are with signing up for a network. Going independent isn't always the best option. Would you rather your show being difficult to produce on your own with it only being lucky it gets popular but also having total creative freedom and no restrictions whatsoever, or your show gaining lots of exposure and the funding to back it but having the risk of being abused in some fashion? That's up to you to decide. My advice: Examine all your options and pick the one you think will benefit you or your show best. There's always going to be difficulties no matter which option you choose, but that's one of the risks to being a show creator or animator. And if you're willing to take that risk, you will reap the rewards of knowing that you created a beloved show.

I can kinda see that with Canadian Meatballs and Seth MacFarlane Scooby. They do look pretty kiddie-like in nature Not so much with Furry TTG. What with all the obvious injokes and depressing self-aware humor, it's definitely not something little kids would watch and get. MAYBE for Sticks because "lol, crazy people = funny" but not so much for the rest of the show.

TheUndeadGamer A Cartoon Network executive reads this comment: "A week of TTG reruns will cure what ails ya!" He laughs heartily, with a ten inch gold plated cigar with mountain of cash towered around his office. But a sudden epiphany strikes him. "Wait, why am I replying to a KZread comment. And why am I watching a video about the current state of my network?" While he pondered this decision, he looked up. Slowly but surely the mountains of cash seemed to huddle around him, menacingly. His eyes lose its lustrous glow. His smile plummeted into a vacant frown. Suddenly a young girl walks into the office, asking cheerily; "Daddy! Look I drew some Kid Next Door fanart! Amy showed me the show when I was at Mom's house! Wanna s-" "Not now, sweetie. Daddy's gotta think." He said, silencing her daughter. While the daughter sadly walks away, the executive looks back contemplatively while his vacant expression made him drop his cigar and quickly set off all his money into flames. He was never heard from again. #MakeCNGreatAgain

Actually, that matter is FAR less disturbing than the rumors have made it out to be. The character of Jared Shapiro may be voiced by and resemble Jake Goldman, a writer on the show, he was actually created as an in-joke character by some of Goldman's co-workers. Goldman himself had nothing to do with the creation of this character. Source: io9.gizmodo.com/this-creepy-powerpuff-girls-theory-isnt-true-thank-god-1795730698 Edit: Also, I just want to point out that there's absolutely nothing wrong with adults voice-acting for child characters. This is a thing that happens all the damn time in movies, cartoons, video games, etc. For example, Jason Ritter, the voice actor for Dipper Pines in Gravity Falls, is 37 years old, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Ritter pines after the 15-year-old redhead Wendy IRL. Hell, Trey Parker and Matt Stone voice all four of the main South Park kids, and I think even with their twisted sense of humor they would never see themselves as the ideal mates of the other child characters on their show.

Have to make one correction. DUCKTALES wasn't the first cartoon series made for first-run syndication. That distinction, oddly enough, actually goes to two series that apparently got the idea at exactly the same time four years earlier in 1983: HE-MAN from Filmation, and INSPECTOR GADGET, the first series from the then France-based DIC produced for the western market (and ironically, just about the only series they ever made that wasn't based on existing IP). A flood of syndicated series followed over the next few years, many of them from DIC and animated by Japanese subcontractors, produced in packages of 65 half-hours (compared to the networks' standard packages of 13). Nearly all of them were based on toys or other existing IP, as was the rigid reality with TV cartoons at the time. That's when DUCKTALES came in. It wasn't Disney's first series, but it was their first entry into what was then the booming syndication market, and as you correctly noted, it paid off enormously and helped spark the renaissance of the '90s.

Nickelodeon is indeed improving slowly. While their live-action shows continue to suck (but let's face it a majority of kids' sitcoms just aren't good; good ones like Drake & Josh and iCarly are the exception not the rule), they really aren't that bad at all in the animation department as of lately. SpongeBob has gotten a lot better, TMNT continues to be amazing, they picked up the Loud House which a lot of people like, their crappy animated shows like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners have been cancelled and banished to Nicktoons, and there's that Welcome to the Wayne show-I caught an episode of it and it was actually really good, it has a pretty strong Gravity Falls vibe to it. And unlike CN, Nick has found a way to do PROPER revivals of their older shows (Hey Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, Invader Zim): not full reboots, but one-and-done TV movies with the their original creators behind them.

Didn't they do an episode like that in the original series? "Ken 10"? Where Ben's son Kenny gets another Omnitrix for his birthday? Well, after the sequel shows, this episode was pretty much non-canon, since Kevin is still a mutant and after Ben, altough they became friends later on. To be honest, I would watch an alternate version of that episode, where Kevin is actually an ally, and his son (forgot his name) becomes Kenny's rival.

Having just saw the first episode of the Ducktales reboot, I am happy to say even having just seen one episode, that this reboot is 10,000 times better than any reboot that Cartoon Network is so desperately trying to get into popularity, and once again, Disney is not rebooting the show that brought television animation into the renaissance just for toy sales (hell, I don't even think there's a single toy line that's either set for or currently advertising at this moment) their rebooting it, because they understand that nostalgia is huge right now AND they respect the source material. Cartoon Network needs to take a serious lesson from it and either make Teen Titans Go and Powerpuff Girls 2016 better (which sadly at this point wouldn't be worth it since both shows are very well hated by the public) or just flat out cancel both shows, and go back to creating original content while NOT having to worry about toy sales.

I thought it was promising in the first half, but what actually sold the reboot to me was a joke in the second half that, in my opinion is one of the best written jokes I ever saw because of the setup and the payoff. You know, the Swedish bit. I can talk for HOURS on how that joke is GENIUS.

You know what's incredibly insanely bad about TTG? Not just the creators taking a back seat in writing, making tons of episodes simply referencing their own situation, and forgoing actually creating their own original story and just rehashing old ideas over and over again using the same five person super hero team (3 Guys, 2 Girls. Where the guys are 1. A "Team Leader" 2. A "Tech Wiz" and 3. "A Nature Lover"). In turn the major company focusing on it simply doesn't care and let's it live because it brings in ratings........There's a show that does ALL of that......But does that BETTER At the same time of TTG, there's Sonic Boom. Same general story as TTG, it was made to sell toys. (Specifically an awful videogame) However, SEGA and the other companies behind Sonic Boom realized that their precious videogame wasn't going to sell well so they let the cartoon writers do whatever they wanted until their expiration date came. Since then, the writers have thrown away a lot of their typical conventions and have made so many fourth wall jokes that there's no such things anymore. Also the show has been less about making straight forward "Good vs. Evil until Evil Runs away", and decides to take time to be "Good vs. Evil until Evil Runs Away. Plus WEIRD discussions on society. Including an episode about pop culture fandoms, the concept of democracy and politics, and multiple tiny moments where they question the meaning of gender equality. (Sometimes both are in one episode, the semi-viral "Knuckles the Feminist" takes place in an episode where Cubot acts suspiciously like an organized religion head) However this kind of style and writing were used simply as legitimate humor and a way to pay homage to something that was important to making the show what it was. (You can't make Sonic Boom without the other games and other cartoons.) And there seemed to be a purpose to make their characters feel more important as a result of them. (For a show with "anti-continuity", tons of episodes connect extremely well together when examining the each of the characters. Whether they be the main 8, or simple background townsfolk) This bizarre writing structure seems to also have ended up potentially HELPING Sonic as a whole. Because SEGA has since began acting more self-aware producing two games that appeal to all versions of Sonic fans. One for those who purely love the classics, and one that simultaneously appeals to the high speed boost lovers, along with the edgy deviantart users. A cartoon with little attention paid to it by management formerly made to sell an AWFUL videogame may have actually turned around the direction of a video game franchise constantly being mocked. TTG, even at this state, could be great and be impactful long term. But I doubt that'll come. In the end, TTG is going to kill Cartoon Network soon. While Sonic is becoming the king of BOOMerang and the many great shows on there. (I'm sorry for the pun)

Actually sega never seems to be self aware due to lack communication until 2 years ago when they hired Aaron Webber as sonic PR and this is when things got crazier in good way. I mean the guy consistently makes "self-aware" jokes about sonic like 06 and he's the main why the meme "& knuckles" exists which gains a lot of attention especially on Twitter. But luckily sega never fired the guy yet and they seems fine with this which turned out for the best especially he usually communicate with the fans either in his personal account or the sonic social media account where he pretty messing around with fans and the fact that Aaron himself grew up with sonic so it's helped sega with their communication problems which's results of games like sonic mania and forces. Apparently the boom writers probably got inspired by Aaron and use that to their advantage when it's comes to telling the jokes and it's worked (not saying it's the main reason why but I'm just speculating),hell even other games companies started to do this for example spike chunsoft when they consistently messing around with fans when it's comes to danganronpa,so it's pretty much started to affect the entertainment industry and it's all started with just 1 guy.

3 years later and Cartoon Network has nothing anymore to survive. In less than a decade, it's going to die, I already predict that right now. Netflix and Disney+ have destroyed the reputation of television in its intirety, especially with the pandemic, and their quantity rate keeps rising every day. Half of the shows that you see nowadays are exclusively made for digital distribution. And with cartoons in particular, a lot of creators have made the decision of publicly showing their pilots on the internet for free and uploading the official episodes, with millions of people watching and subscribing to them. What does television have? Almost nothing anymore! With the end of television, Cartoon Network has no chance of surviving, unless they do something really unique and attention grabbing

You forget the ULTIMATE Disney afternoon cartoon: "Gargoyles". It was so magnificently written, voiced, and animated, and became such a massive hit and so incredibly influential, it spawned one of the first formally named and one of the few TV Tropes named after one specific character: The Xanatos Gambit, based upon the incredibly complex and impossibly successful plans of David Xanatos, the central antagonist for most of the show. And it remains one of the very few examples of the trope in which the gambit actually felt as if it came off plausibly because it was framed and plotted so perfectly.

That's a pretty asinine business strategy since Cartoon Network, desperately trying to get with the times, is only noticing the people constantly on their phones and are only supplying the demand for shows other than Teen Titans Go for one half of viewers and not the other. Sure, you can pretty much stream your favourite shows from the app, but they're not thinking about the fact that some people don't own a smartphone or, myself included, any kind of streaming service such as Netflix or Hulu. And since the price of smartphones has only gone up within the past few years, some of the network's viewers can only watch it on TV, which means that they're stuck with TTG marathons until the end of eternity and it doesn't matter if you like the how or not. With the executives only focusing on the app and jut abandoning the actual channel itself just goes to show how stupid they are.

As someone who grew up with the KND and was a kid myself when it aired, I'm not sure how that would've worked. The adults/teenagers were the enemy on that show. Well, some of them were, and some were sent in to infiltrate the adults and stop them from taking over the world. If you never grew up with it, that's fine. I'm just saying, how would they have saved it the same way they helped bring Samurai Jack back?

Actually, I hate to say this but Cartoon Network is getting worse, again. They are repeating old mistakes that never worked to begin with, yep, they have a preschool block called Cartoonnito now and they’re having live action shows, again! Seriously! But then, I can agree that all of cable TV has died and that’s why I stick to streaming now, the shows on them are better than what is on TV today!

Between that and their upcoming live action block it has me genuinely worried about the network's future as they are repeating ideas that have failed miserably.

Ok... firstly, the Hub didn't exist in 2009. It premiered in 2010. And it "died" probably around 2014-2015.
