My wife knew a couple that rescued animals- they had a one-legged African Grey Parrot who would memorized radio commercials and knew 100s of words. The bird would taunt their dogs saying "who's the good puppy? come get your treat...and the dog would jump up to the cage looking for a treat and the parrot would peck at the dog's nose and shout "stupid dog"..."he he he" and laugh at the frustrated dog

There's a hilarious clip online with a man outside working on his car. His neighbors called 911 hearing a "Woman inside screaming for help and to be let out". A Camera on the guys house caught the cops all pull up together. You see them talking and he tells them to hold for one second. He walks in then back out with a Parrot screaming "Let me out!"

I studied in Mexico when I was in college. I was on the beach in Puerta Vallarta and the hotel had this huge colorful parrot in a cage. It was speaking in Spanish. I walked over to it when it was just me and him. I said "Hello!" It just looked at me with a skeptical look out of the corner of its eye. It kept walking back and forth towards and away from me on its stick, looking at me the whole time. I kept repeating "Hello!". Finally he stopped and said "Hola!!!". The excited voice didn't match the facial expression haha I thought to myself "Wow! This bird translates!!" 🤣

OB Daz, a bird that can imitate the sound of a car alarm, is a lyrebird. The lyrebird lives in Australia and can learn to imitate the songs of over 20 other bird species. And also sounds created by people, such as a car alarm, a camera shutter, or the sound of a chainsaw. He can learn to imitate almost everything he hears frequently.

Linguists were studying the African gray parrot as it has the highest vocabulary They had given it some birthday cake one day after a party. This was on a Friday On Monday, the bird wanted more cake But it was a word that it had never been taught So the bird said to the scientists... Polly wants, sweet bread It simply took the characteristics of cake, it's sweetness and its bread like consistency and made up a term so that the scientist would understand its request Then of course the scientists go get it and say this is called cake and now it learned a new word. Polly likes cake But for the bird to be able to put together two ideas like that, I would like that sweet bread that you gave me last Friday.. That's very human-like

I wonder how often birds end up casually speaking two languages because of the same objects being given to the bird by different people

Remember the old 5 tone alarm? I always heard and saw crows mimic it. Not exactly but darn close.

Macaws and Amazonian parrots are highly intelligent and sensitive. They also talk to each other; that is unnerving. It’s a little scary. Many people are afraid of birds, and when they are smart, they are even more unnerving.

As a former non cat liker I think they're actually chill. I dislike some cat owners because they essentially worship there cat but if you have a smart cat as a pet it's a cool relationship.

I feel like owning a bird is just cruel. They've been around since the god damn dinosaurs and evolved to fly, and you put it in a cage and clip its wings just for your own self amusement? As Dimitri Martin says, "I think there's a fine line between having a pet, and having a hostage from another species."

I absolutely agree, but the bird I have lived 20 years with one person and it was living in literal filth. It's cage hadn't been cleaned for months, if not years. It was only eating cheap Walmart seed. Had only one small perch between its black feeders that were supposed to be white. I eventually gave them the option of giving it to me or I'd report them for cruelty. The bird is so spoiled now it's ridiculous! Lol I wasn't a bird owner so I read up on the care of Cherry Headed Conures, spent $500 on a new cage, toys and food. I drove 65 miles to have him checked by a good exotic pet vet. I've had him a year now and I leave his cage door open sometimes for days, but he likes to stay in. I've thought about just releasing him, but he would probably die. He's worth at least $600 and on the near endangered list. I'm giving him the best life possible. Every day he gets chopped apple, chopped grapes, chopped green beans, peas, sunflower kernels, and quality conure food. Sometimes he gets banana, cucumber, mango, pecans, walnuts or peanuts. He's a good boy. 🙂
