Animals Like Us : Animal Emotions - Wildlife Documentary

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The study of animal behavior leaves little room for emotional-related explanations. Feelings in animals tend to be presented as functional explanations of behavior in a given situation. The notion of emotion has been completely overlooked, especially in the sixties, at the peak of animal experimentation, since it was easier to deny animal feelings like sadness or suffering, to guiltlessly carry out all sorts of tests. Recognizing the existence of animal feelings implies moral obligations. Things however are changing... and many scientists who study animal behavior are paying more and more attention to emotions. But how could it be otherwise? To better understand a behavior we need to compare it to an already seen already and understood situation. And what could better help us understand a specific behavior than our own experience, our own behavior and our own emotions.

4:22 the langurs just have other traditions than humans do. They are aware the child is dead. But their custom is to carry it around like it was alive for 3 or 4 days, and thus honor the life force. Then they leave the dead body somewhere to be processed by nature.

Excellent documentaire. 🇫🇷

"smiling" in the chimp world is an aggressive gesture as you show your gums when you smile wide [When chimps show their top gums and grimace its to show another chimp they are unhappy so to speak], so the mother likely thought you were being hostile towards her baby.

This documentary is terribly out of date. I'd advise anybody interested in "animal" emotions to check out something a little more recent. There is so much more to the subject than depicted here. For example, elephants, dolphins and magpies pass the self-awareness mirror test, and there are many intriguing examples of our fellow creatures being able to think and plan ahead and reactions to death that were not covered here. What saddens me most is how the narrator insists on referring to "animals" instead of "other animals". If we continue to separate ourselves from our fellow creatures in this dishonest manner, we perpetuate the horrific and ultimately unscientific idea with which vivisectionists and other torturers justify their behaviour - i.e, that Homo sapiens is somehow in a completely different category of existence to all other life forms.

Animals have emotions, I get that but they STILL are not on par with humans, for all those who have a pet and treat it like a baby and say the animal loves them as much if not more than a human That isnt the case. Of course animals have emotions, its obvious just watching wild animals when one dies, the living ones grieve, but they still shouldnt be looked at like a human. You still also dont have an animal and abuse it. Too many people have pets and decide to mistreat it. It seems too easy to get a pet and forget about it or throw it out. Bit like humans do to our elderly or our children. It's too easy to have kids or pets ( some people shouldnt have either)

"Ancient philosophers saw animals as little more then machines" - no! Early modern philosophers I think were the first to say this (17th century onwards): early philosophers tended to see animals as governed by spirits or life force or the likes I believe. In other words, the mechanised worldview is a modern phenomenon. I don't know if ancient philosophers talked about emotions and consciousness in animals, however.

anecdotal: but as someone planning on studying animal behavior, i sometimes pick up my cat and force her to look into a mirror for laughs. most of the time she doesnt get it, but for seconds at a time some days if i do it just right (touch her head, then my hand next to her, then the mirror, repeat, etc. crude funny stuff) she will look in the mirror at herself with these huge widened eyes and then flip shit. i always joke that im "forcing her to become self aware for ten seconds at a time". as someone who also is self aware for mere seconds a day, i feel her pain.

Actually Hebrews like most ancient peoples, sacrificed animals to god as burnt offerings, but also did the same with other humans that they had conquered in war, when they attacked other people for not worshiping their god! They would bring back survivors to their camp, and take some humans as slaves, along with animals as whatever, food or just as livestock, and the other half would be given to god as burnt offerings! Just read the book of Moses, and try reading between the lines and really understand what your reading for a change! The Hebrews/Israelites/Jews and the Christians and Muslims, think Animals have no souls, that their god placed them all here for humans to use as the see fit, and basically same goes for the rest of the planet too! It's why our world is so messed up, because 3 of the largest religious groups have ruled in someway or another for the last 2000 years and they have no respect for nature, unlike the Pagans, where at least many of the European ones, like The Celtics/Druids and the Native Americans had/have always respected nature and believed that we needed to protect nature, not destroy it! Sure Pagans are also guilty of animal and human sacrifice, but I am tired of those who follow Judaism, Christianity and Islam acting like they have never done human sacrifices or anything bad ever! Oh and I am not what could really be seen as Pagan, since I do not believe any of the religions are right in what created us all, maybe I am more of a Agnostic, except I don't have any doubt that something created us, just don't believe anyone human has or does or ever will know what that is, I don't think we are supposed to know, at least not until we die, even then we may not! All these beliefs of humans is just that, beliefs of humans, made up by humans for thousands of years, all of them, and none matter and none are right! But especially those three who thinks they are so much more special than the all the rest, which is all because they killed anyone who didn't want to follow their beliefs, so that they would outnumber any that were left of those other beliefs! Which means they are only more powerful because they have more stupid desperate people following their god and their belief, which doesn't make them special, just dumber! Not that I think much better of Atheist, since it's just as stupid to assume you know there isn't a god or a afterlife as it is to say you know what that god or thing is that created everything or that you know there is an afterlife, though there is at least some reason to believe now a days in that, with quantum physics, and other scientific evidence, about life and death!

If you are wondering why I have no separated paragraphs, its because KZread when I first posted, for some reason, only had the first part of what I said, everything after " and try reading between the lines and really understand what your reading for a change, was cut! Luckily it was still there when I hit edit, so I just moved everything up together so nothing got cut! Not that I think it matters to anyone, but this way you can't complain that I didn't separate everything into paragraphs right, because I actually couldn't!

@Zeljko Trifunovic Reading your commentary caused me some questions: Is your speech good or useful to someone? Did you intend it to be? You may use true facts and common expressions intended to help, but your hatred* here overshadows their value. Don't you know that using them just as means of expressing your hatred, condemning out of it is actually damaging? It's destroying you too as well. Did you intend it? *I may be wrong with conclusions, but I made them so because, it seems that you try to threaten her, violently (yes, words can show violence) force her to do what people do out of faith, love and free will. Isn't that hatred? As it seems to me you are here trying to play a righteous judge. And it seems that she met enough people in her life who clumsily played judges, looking down on everyone who stumbled and handing out verdicts. And this had its consequences in her life and views. We all (including you and me) lie deliberately or out of delusion, but don't you know you are not the one to condemn someone? May be you too need and would profit from an evening of Bible reading?

Also..if you actually bothered paying attention instead of just being set on finding a way to negatively judge anyone/anything you don't agree with....you'd know that the dog was never in a crate until recently, to keep it from completely destroying her home (as it had done many, many times). She was (reluctantly) compelled to start putting the dog in the crate when she left the home. She went so far as to contact, make an appointment, and travel to the veterinary specialist to get help for the dog. Some people would have re-homed it. She went above and beyond. Contrary to your warped ideologies, pets (which are a wonderful gift from God), are in fact, not human life, and don't have the same importance as humans. Period. (And I say that as as someone who loves animals so much, that I used to put my pets -which include everything from dogs, cats, ferrets, to rats, reptiles and tarantulas (love my spiders, have/had 4 tarantulas over the past 20 years)....to have the run of my entire house, and destroy thousands of dollars of furniture, flooring, doors, decor, etc. And spent thousands more replacing all of those things). Until I stopped deluding myself about the role of animals in our world, and that while we need to love, respect, cherish, care for and be stewards of animals.....that doesn't mean animals should be prioritized over humans and the needs of humans. And that includes not allowing them to destroy our homes and what's in it -bought with our hard-earned money. They shouldn't be shamed by others when they need to implement things like crating them at times to keep them from destroying the house, or at night if they interfere with sleep. Nor should they be shamed if they genuinely have no choice but to re-home or surrender them to a proper sanctuary or shelter...regardless of the reasons, which can include things like; having to move to an apartment or home where the animals aren't allowed; allergies; the diagnosis/onset of a serious health condition or disease; aggressiveness towards people, or have attacked a person, and especially when a baby or child is at risk; a loss of income in the family and can no longer afford the animal, if they want to put food on the table for their family, etc....just to name a few. Which leads me to your utterly uneducated, incorrect assertion that "all animals in a shelter are unhappy", which implies that the animals have the human traits of reason and forethought, contemplating their life and their future, and have an understaning of what their life SHOULD/COULD be ....traits which they certainly do not have. They live on instinct, they live "in the moment", and can experience fun and happiness and sometimes even have it better during their stay in a shelter, than they had as a stray on the street, emaciated, in pain, lonely and cold....or come from an abusive home where they were treated badly, were physically abused regularly, might have been starved, sick, have an infestation of fleas and ticks, experienced no interaction with humans or other animals, or never getting a moment of love. Ridiculous statement. Open a book sometime....

Did they feed the Chimps such a small amount of food for some reason ? You can tell the group is stressed by their bad coat quality. The females don't look like they're in good condition after having babies either.Sadly , not a very healthy group.
