This is funny because AAL always felt cold and mechanical to me, I mean I could feel the energy and rush through their songs, and I love their style, but I still had a sens a clinical technicity (not that technical genres are always cold, but this band particularly felt this way to me) That was before I listened to this whole album at once There are still other bands (as TesseracT or Dream Theater) that give me way more chill, but this album is truly a masterpiece, and there are some.moments that almost gave me goosebumps, this is a true journey Sorry for my wrong English
Thank god for this band
That ending left a brown present in my trousers. Amazing album.

This album is like a Beethoven symphony for the modern era.
@MegaClamjam

a symphony is only about 1000x more complex than a prog song.
@Oh_its_Mike
10 жыл бұрын
marshall C Not really. Only if you're thinking in terms of scale. Obviously there are more moving parts in a full orchestra but the complexity in these 4 instruments trumps that imo.
@TheGrandBrand
10 жыл бұрын
Longrod Von Hugendong The album has good ideas, virtuoso technique, a pretty stationary harmony and a heavily loop-based structure (typical in most popular music). Also, there's not much of thematical development (and I doubt we're justified to speak of 'themes' in this kind of music - just like we don't in baroque or some of contemporary classical. Rather riffs, motives, not even actual phrases). A symphony revolves around well-directed thematic manipulation, with quite advanced and rich harmony, plus the form, obviously (sonata-allegro, rondo etc.) I would only compare an AAL album to a symphony if they actually aim at building that kind of material.
@Oh_its_Mike

TheGrandBrand what are similes
@TheGrandBrand
10 жыл бұрын
I stand by it being loop-based. Consecutive repetitions of very short chunks of material are everywhere. And that's the paradigm in most popular music. Nothing wrong with it, plus, AAL are one of my definite favs for what they do. Still, this music is very differently constructed than your usual symphony, a wholly different approach (I'd find more similarity to Philipp Glass or John Adams here than to a "Beethoven sonata")
As if this song wasn't amazing enough... once its over, i get to hear Kascade again. Love this album.
THIS is how you close out an already epic album. My ears hurt from the eargasms it endured listening to this song.

This is one of my fave songs in this album. Both the solo and outro is amazing. The solo draws a feeling that makes want to be in a safe place, while the outro tells you there's monsters out there. This song has a message that I can't seem to put in words... This is music.

TraceofHatred It's called the side-effect of the Loudness Wars. This album has been heavily compressed and limited - the limiter is pumping the loud sections down. Do the research and you'll know what I'm talking about, and you will see why this album sounds dull from a mastering perspective.

Imrez Well that's shitty :'3
I am not crazy for the djenty intro but as soon as it goes into the clean part and the distortion kicks in, it creates a great emotional reaction within me. The sounds of sadness, hope, perseverance, power, as if you're the only thing left standing after you were in a tornado and watched it tear apart everything you love but you're still alive. I just wanted to say that this song Is very special to me. Thank you.

Still one of the best albums I’ve ever heard.
I like to think of this song as the movement through ones life. The beginning is chaotic as it would be when you're brought into this world and everything is new. Then the solo comes in and thats when you're old enough to understand the beauty of life, your mortality and everything around you. Then the chaos comes back as you grow older and you deal with your regrets and what-ifs. Then finally the breakdown closes out the album, fading out slowly, representing everyones inevitable fading from existence, and the inability to cope with death.

Such an amazing album! Thank you so much AAL and Sumerian for providing such remarkable music.
Wow, this is a GODLIKE way to end the album. Probably already my all-time favourite AAL song.
Very well done. One of the best endings to an album.
The only album ending that matches this is the ending of Periphery II. This is such an epic outro, absolutely in love with the fill Garstka does right at the very end of the fade out, you can only hear it if you listen hard but it's genius.

The lead guitar at the beginning reminds me of Tony MacAlpine's tone on Planet X's Moonbabies album. Also a monster album for those interested in atmospheric "jazz metal" of the highest level.
The last solo is pretty damn badass IMO. It lets out a very good energy that always makes me want to smile when I listen to it.
