I saw a homeless man with a dog on the sidewalk when I was in California, and I felt really bad for the guy. It just so happened that an IHop was just across the street. So I went there and got an omelet with some bacon, and I asked for a small bowl of strawberries to go. After I got it I went back to the homeless guy and his dog and gave the food to him. He almost started crying when I told him I also got something for his dog. It almost seemed that he cared more about his dog than he did about himself. I'm just glad that I was able to help him and his dog, even though it was just a small act.

Morgan Olfursson I guess you don't have the trust or faith that a homeless individual cares more for their pet than they do for themselves. I believe that the homeless take excellent care of their pets! The dog was obviously overjoyed to be reunited with the homeless man! The two love each other!

There is an amazing program in Melbourne Australia where you can sponsor a homeless persons dog. The dogs are fed, registered, have leads, get vet visits and treatments 😊❤️. Dogs are a great comfort to homeless people, they develop a very deep bond. The dog protects them, loves them and is their friend.

You are a homeless , you have a pet or many apparently , and even though you manage to get an internet access , probably from a public library (meaning a library , us, taxpayers have to pay for , all you can do is watch videos on youtube, instead of trying to get a better life for the one you pretend to be ready to give yours for ? If you love your pets get a fucking job and a place to live to give them a better life or put them up for a adoption . You're like the guy on this video . This man didn't put the dog first in his life, he puts himself first . What can a homeless provide to the dog , bad food, cold in winter , hot in summer, filthy pavement to sleep on . No medical check ups for the dog, no way to make sure the animal is healthy and no way to pay for any required treatment or surgery if needed. This is bullshit, this video is bullshit and you are bullshit Tammie. I am a veterinarian, i also run animal shelters which i opened , and i would never give this animal back to this man or yours back to you . For me animals are like human beings if not more important and i consider animals (well pets) to be like the children of the ones who adopt them . If you live on the street with your kids, social services will take them away from you, if you live on the street with your kids and you can't provide comfort , safety, food and medical checks for them , child services will take them away from you . If you lose them like this man lost his dog , the police won't be waiting for you with a smile happy to give them back to you, you'll end up in jail for the way you care about your kids . This is exactly the same thing with animals or at least so it should be .. No matter how everything you pretend them to be to you Tammie , or how well treated some homeless' pets can be , , animals shouldn't live on the city streets , this is not their natural habitat , neither cats nor dogs . I have taken care of homeless' pets and always asked the homeless if they would agree to let me keep the animals until they get situated ( I have a large house with a very large garden and i run three animal shelters so i have all the space and food needed to take proper care of animals), and i can't even recall how many times i have been threatened physically by the homeless if i refused to give the animals back to them . And how many times have i had homeless' pets brought to my clinic in the most dreadful state, broken limbs, broken ribs, all the worst possible shit stuffed in their intestines because they are starving and eat the packaging paper around left overs in the trash or other shit, basically whatever they can . Those animals are among the most unhealthy i have ever had to treat, infested with fleas and other parasites , with filthy hair , bad teeth infected eyes . No Tammie, if you like your pet, and are ready to give your life for them, bring them to a good vet and tell them, i can't provide a good life for them , i do not have enough money to make sure they eat healthily and have regular medial checks , i can't even provide a stable , clean and healthy environment for them so could you please take them and find them a good family . That's what somebody who cares for their family does . Not using youtube ina public library , when you should be getting a fucking job to provide for your pets .

Trainer Red ARRRGGGG!!! Why do people ask this stupid question? Homeless people need phones as much as anyone else and it's not as if you could pay for rent with the amount of money saved from not having a phone. You need to make 2-3 times the rent charged for an apartment to qualify to rent and there are plenty of people who don't make enough to rent a place but have enough income for other things. There are even a large number of people living in vehicles who have youtube channels.

While living in Montana, My husband and i spotted a man asking for money It was winter and cold, he was trying to make it home to Cali, he was hungry but he was asking for money to buy his dog some food, we didnt have any cash and were on our way to an appt, on the way back a couple of hours later he was still there huddled around his dog, we went to the store and bought a bag of dog food, and food for him.and even stopped at a fast food place and got him and his pup a hot meal. when we gave this to him he started to cry and said how he was so grateful and how nobody would help him, we even had a couple of blankets in the truck "just in case" we gave one to him as well. after his tearful thank you a hug and lots of puppy kisses he wrapped his dog in the blanket and headed "home" I hope he and his little buddy made it there.

i saw 2 homeless men each with a dog. to be honest it annoyed me cuz both of these men were able to work. i spoke to them for a while, and told them i dont give money, but i would help them in another way. i went into the walmart and bought little kids jackets. one a size 7 the other a 9. went out and gave them to the guys for the dogs. they fit perfectly. putting the front paws in the arm holes. zipping them up, and even putting the hood up! they looked so cute! i didnt give anything to the men as i say it bothered me that they were able bodied and chose to be homeless, basically bums. BUT bringing dogs into this awful lifestyle was wrong. the dogs were shivvering, and just shaking i couldnt leave them like that. ***important, i also took off all of the tags and kept the receipt so there was no way they could try and bring them back for the cash! i have had that happen before when i bought food for a couple at a convenience store. 5 mintues after i bought it, they thought that i left, and sure enuff they were at the cashier trying to get the cash back. he refused because he knew what i had done for them. that is one of the reasons i dont give cash period! i will pay for a room, buy you food and or a meal, put a coat on your shivvering dog, but i will not give you money to buy cigarettes, alcohol, or dope.

I once ran into a homeless man outside a McDonald's begging for money so he could get something to eat. I didn't give him any money but instead bought him a hamburger. When I went outside to give it to him there was a dog sitting next to him that wasn't there before I didn't think much of it but what happened next made me restore my faith in humanity. As I handed him the burger he thanked me and started opening the wrapper, he took one bite and then another, and then gave the rest to his dog. I felt bad that I only bought him one burger so I went back inside and bought four more and gave them to him and his dog. They were so happy and it also made me happy to see him and his dog smiling. It truly made my day.

I agree about some homeless people taking better care of the pets they have. Also, I think homeless people need animals as much as anyone else - perhaps more. It gives them hope and puts a smile on their face...gives them something to take care of and a reason to continue on. I'm glad they returned his dog to him,

Animals are not here to give hope and put smiles on faces . If you do not have the type of life and the wealth to take extremely good care of them then you shouldn't have animals . They are not fucking toys to make you happy or make you continue on . I am a veterinarian and i would have never returned that dog to that man until he gets a proper job, a place to live and learn some responsibility .

Gold star for you? There are others here in the comments who have said they have seen homeless people with pets and those pets are taken better care of than the pets owned by people with money. So money isn't always a factor. Love and care also count or what about that football player who had lots of money and could have taken good care of his dogs but instead didn't? Sorry but money and the ability to take good care of an animal isn't everything, it doesn't mean the pet will get good care or attention and love. And I didn't say a dog was a toy, no need to curse and put words in my mouth. Just shows who is immature here. And really? I wonder what your opinion of service animals are and therapy animals as well. Considering their jobs are to help people as well. What about rescue dogs? Got an opinion on them as well? Maybe they shouldn't be rescue animals and therapy and service animals shouldn't be those things as well? That they are just tools or objects? Also, need I point out that happiness shared between animals and people is a two way street? I'm happy and so is my pet in part because I'm happy and they pick up on that? Why do people own pets/dogs? To make them happy to have a companion and a family member. So then every dog owner has them because they are a toy, in your opinion? People don't own a pet if it doesn't make them happy, why would they? So part of the reason then is something you are against. Pls...don't ever own a pet...or if you do - never be happy about it...cause if the pet puts a smile on your face there is something wrong apparently.

Morgan Olfursson sounds to me that you have a problem with less fortunate people. idgaf what you say some homeless people not all but some do take care of their pets better than people who have tons of money. I've seen it. and with your attitude you could never be my cats vet. cause I don't have lots of money my cat is vetted eats science diet sensitive skin and stomach dry food. he comes 1st. and where I go to the vet if I don't have the money I make payment arrangements. I know that pets are not toys but if they put a smile on some ones face and are well cared for so be it. you want to do something nice. help a homeless person get on there feet again!! it's not always their fault!!!

this right here is why i adopt abuse and special animals. i have a senior cat who was owned by a hoarder, she cried constantly for attention, as she had never in her entire life been held. she learned from her foster family by watching the baby, that if you cry, you get attention. because of this anyone who adopted her, brought her back. she been with me 4 years and counting! i also have a special cat who is challenged, and is blind in one eye, who was scheduled to be euthanized. cats like her are not considered adoptable, and was brought back multiple times. they could not handle that her mind is like a perpetual kitten, and she has difficulties you would need to be patient with. she was only 2 yrs old when i found her, and she has been with me a year, and counting! i also manage a cat colony. people abandon their housecats when they move from the community, leaving them homeless and hungry. i make sure they get good food every day, and they also live under my home. one cat has made his home in my back yard in my gazebo. he likes my wicker furniture for his bed, and the fact that it is covered. most of them are sweet, and if you can catch them, you can have them for free!

I carry a couple of cans of dog food in my car. Now days they have pull tabs, so I slip a couple of folded up dollars under the tab and there they sit until I come across a homeless person with a dog, asking for handouts at a street corner. It never occurred to me that they also need flea medication, but duh! Of course they do. Guess I'll get some of that too.

omg amit your lucky. Lots of times people who've lost a pet put notices up, check with the local shelter without success, only to find the local shelter had possession all the time. Then there's an ugly battle for the former owner to regain THEIR pet because the shelter adopted it out, or is going to adopt it out. Some shelters aren't on the up and up. To them it's about the monthly profit margin, period !

But the guy look into the plastic bag I dropped and smile. Then I know he appreciated it.

Yeah it is his dog, and under normal circumstances, they wouldn't charge him to adopt his own dog back. But they most likely microchipped her, spayed her if she wasn't already, gave her booster shots, a checkup to see if she's healthy enough to be adopted etc. All of that isn't free.

Ah you're one of them anti shelter people. Fyi running shelters is not cheap. They have to buy food, pay workers to care for the animals, provide heating when it's cold, test the animals for dangerous diseases, give meds if they get sick, and much more... Not to mention they save people pets every day. Without shelters people would likely never find their pets. They'd likely be in the street... flat with tire prints on them. Got anything else smart to say?

  • @Rebecca-lk7rz

    @Rebecca-lk7rz

How about the fact that most shelters kill more than they save because the fees are so high. also animals are more likely to be adopted if they AREN'T in a shelter- ie- people go to craigslist or just pick up strays off the street quite a bit more often than dealing with the stress and expense of a shelter. In fact there are entire TNR (trap nuter release) programs that exist just to keep stray cats from being euthanised in droves the day they come in (rather they're feral or not).

rebecca robinson. Breeders are fucking assholes. They're the reason shelters get so damn slam packed because they sell them to dumb ass people who go, I want my dog to have puppies because they're ohhhh so cute, and think fixing their animal is something awful. Then where do 75% of the puppies end up?! Boom, at the shelter. The fees at my shelter are only 35$ and we have a tnr program, plus our euthanasia rate is fairly low.

Verre Dawn "they act like the homeless dogs are worth more than homeless people" -May I know where I can see that in the video? The people in the shelter do care about the homeless person who made it a point to pay for his fare out of their own pocket, waive the adoption fees & offered future assistance when needed. It shows that the people in the shelter cared for this human who loves his dog more than his life. Most government agencies/programs & charity organizations are solely for helping humans already but there are far fewer groups like this animal shelter that are devoted in caring for lower beings. People, with their higher level of intelligence, have a bigger capacity to help themselves but domesticated animals are always at the mercy of humans.

Someone else here in the comments said it's because the shelter would have given the dog a bath, flea meds, and spayed/neutered it, possibly other medical care When you adopt an animal, that's what the fees that they charge are for. So money was spent getting the dog into an adoptable condition. It was very kind of the shelter not to require the man to pay the normal fee.

I agree, this particular man should not have been charged any money, due to his difficult circumstances. There is an old ad from the 80's? ( as TV commercial) a stark black and white image close up of a dog (a lab) over head lighting to make it feel creepy, than it fades to a full face of a boy or a half face of the boy. The premise of the commercial is about child abuse. The moral of my comment is that when animal advocates work to help animals, the flip side is to be just that, (a humanitarian) you also need to have sincere equal regard for people, in need. Or all the self validating is worth ANYTHING. I've experienced this 1st hand in my community.
