Well, yes they can run 40mph. But whoever told you that they can reach 60 for short sprints had no idea what they were talking about.

They definitely can't run 60mph

You also are not entirely correct about coyote's communication. Yes, they yip and bark. But they also make a variety of howls, both males and females, and the different styles of howls mean different things.
