@@TheR.Y.S.E.Movement Ever since my integration event, I realized that our creative geniuses shed deep light on the unconscious, and that there is a reason certain stories pull us in. For me, the way Hans Zimmer writes music, or the themes in Chritopher Nolans movies, games like Dark Souls, character development in The Last Airbender, and a band like Sleep Token have been like Sleep watching and guiding me.

Last year, my friend and I sat down and discussed how this music touched me and others and the imagery and at one point she looked at me and said wait, this is very Jungian. Have you seen Carl Jungs redbook? I said no. I have been down a spiritual/ musical rabbit hole and im so happy you have the space to make videos about it. I think fall for me allowed me to project my need for someone else to be there for me. I desperately needed to feel not alone. I've desperately needed a community and some kind of enjoyment in life. This has been a strange journey. Im glad others are in it too. CS Lewis said "I sat with my anger long enough until she told me her real name was grief." Shadow work has absolutely changed my life.

It’s amazing how much art can affect us. This whole journey from awakening to this concept, to story boarding, leaving breadcrumbs on TikTok and here, creating and editing the video has been a wild experience for me. So much synchronicity. The cool thing is I know, I can feel that it’s just the beginning of something wonderful!

I think that deep down I really wanted the “meaning” to be about a relationship with another person, not with myself. This interpretation hits WAY harder and makes me really want to do some serious reflection and true work on myself. Thank you so much. Brilliant work!

Thank you so much for your comment & your vulnerability in sharing. The humility that comes from acceptance right before venturing into the unconscious is a powerful moment of clarity. It’s like taking a final breath of air as you’ve been treading water in rough seas & accepting your fate that “what you seek the most is where you least want to look” and that place will always be in the shadow, the unconscious. You’ve got this but remember you don’t have to do it alone. What resources do you need to be successful in ALL you strive towards?

We (humans) are spiritual beings having a physical experience. We evolved in small communities where our times around the fire, telling mystical (metaphorical) stories applied meaning and a self orienting north start for our mode of being. Without that, we live in a dead society & dying world. We need places to connect to ourselves and something divine. It’s sorely missed in this “modern” world.

My emotional reaction when listening to ST comes from how beautiful and artistic the music and lyrics feel. How someone can pull something so raw and deep within themselves and share it. I relate to the shadow work and spiritual journey in my own life, but the obsession/emotional reaction that I get comes from an extreme appreciation that something can be so beautiful. I don’t know what to make of that.

i’ve been sitting here trying to figure out how to construct the thoughts in my head into words, and i’m struggling. this breakdown was everything i needed to clear up this frustration and sadness that i’ve been feeling about not being able to understand why im so intensely drawn to ST and their lyrics. i cried through parts of this video finally knowing why i connected so deeply with specific songs and vessels struggles. i always thought the dialogues in their songs referenced two separate beings, but having this perspective of both sides of the dialogue coming from one Self makes me feel something i can’t quite explain. i know i have so much work to do within myself now, and my journey starts now. i found sleep token a couple years ago, but within the last couple months i have become completely enthralled and consumed by their music after seeing them live. it was an otherworldly experience, completely magical. it’s all i’ve been able to think about since. this brought me so much peace and has made me LOVE sleep token even more. i have a much deeper appreciation for vessels storytelling and lyricism after this video. thank you so much for this, truly. i have been stuck in a cycle of distraction and i believe im finally breaking the habit. i want to reach wholeness and unity within myself, i think its what i’ve been searching for all this time. again, thank you for this. i know now that i have so much work to do 🖤

I thought about it too, that all the songs are about a relationship between a man and a woman, but your explanations sit so much more with me. I LOVE THIS!!! Leaving me aware, that there is so much inner work to still be done, and probably will never really be finished. Scared me at first to think about it that way, but now, it gives me more and more power, to do the work daily, and to be a better person, for myself and my family, even tho they may never change themselves, I will die at peace knowing I did my best on my part.

Thank you so much. The greatest relationship we will ever have, is the one with ourselves. From that comes every other relationship. I love that the inner work will never be done. It reminds me of a passage from Tao Te Ching, “In pursuit of knowledge, every day something is added. In the practice of the Tao, every day something is dropped. Less and less do you need to force things, until finally you arrive at non-action. When nothing is done, nothing is left undone. True mastery can be gained by letting things go their own way. It can’t be gained by interfering.” I believe it is about finding “the way” or “the tao” in everything as to leave nothing undone. It IS the way.

Talking about it seems to be asking people to have faith in things that I wouldn't have believed before I experienced it. So I held back in many, many occasions, because "how would I explain?" The art is pointing to a much more mystical/ intangible experience. How do you frame the unframeable? It is, what it is.... godly.. divine.. monumental.. and even those words feel hollow compared to what it truly is.

Just gonna chime in my interpretation for Alkaline: “Acid nor alkaline” So water, true neutral, and again with the water theme in an album about drowning. He’s drowning in her neutrality. “Caught between day and night” Twilight. Another middle point that happens twice a day. The transition between union and separation. “Caught between black and white” Grey, another neutral. Light and dark. Given the songs name is “Alkaline” (or base in chemistry terms), mixed with the recurring theme of opposites making neutrals, when you add in the first two lines “Every once in a while something changes; and she’s changing me”. The song is about diluting yourself to match your love/obsession while never being able to become exactly like them

This is crazy; I discovered and started listening to ST right around the same time I bought and worked through a Shadow Journal that was based on Jung’s ideas while seeking professional help through therapy. I made such progress in working on my trauma and depression while ST slowly but surely became my favorite band to listen to. I went to see ST live last week in Asheville and the experience was other worldly and very emotional; almost like it unlocked emotional responses to music and just in general I never had before. Having these interests and experiences connect together in this way makes SO MUCH SENSE and definitely makes me love their music even more. I felt Sleep Token’s music strike me powerfully, but for a good while I couldn’t pinpoint why, other than this vague sense that the art was calling and reaching for something beyond, something abstract, esoteric, and beautiful. I had a psychedelic experience that caused DYWTYLM to bring me to tears and have a revelation that helped provide another powerful spark in my journey toward self actualization. I encountered Jungian ideas in music first through Tool, but I was too young at the time to understand, the ideas were attractive but ultimately opaque to me. Thank you for this, when I first started listening to Sleep Token, there is something that is familiar in the lyrics, knowing that this is a journey through the unconscious, there is dark and light, there is the grief one experience when they shed that old self and break away from past hurt, the pull to what is familiar while venturing into that unknown. Discovering Self is a hard journey to go through

I just really want to add that there is another KZreadr who has connected the Anima with the right brain hemisphere. The silent personality inside of you that gives you inspiration and can only communicate with your conscious self in dreams and visions. We are all actually and literally two people/personalities. I don’t know if you’ve researched the hemisphere topic but I find it extremely fascinating that this would be vessels anima from where he accesses this creativity. The same KZreadr called our brains “magic jelly” and I’m using that term forever now. I believe if there is anything beyond the physical, then the right brain is the only part with access to it.

Wiping tears from my eyes writing this.... only discovered this incredible band this week! Your breakdown of their work had me laying my hands on my chest to soothe my soul as it was being seen and heard. I have PTSD from being a police officer and working in the child abuse unit, interviewing the children and historical abuse of adults. As this work was very traumatising I kept it a secret for 20 years. Not telling anyone about the traumas I experienced. They turned into my shadow self, coming out in self loathing behaviours. It’s only now after seeing a therapist that the shadow has shown ‘himself’. I always thought he was sabotaging my happiness by creeping in intrusive thoughts, terrifying images. But after doing some Journalling exploring who this shadow was and what they wanted from me was life changing. As the song Ascension describes, he is there as my friend...all along...helping me find the path to my mental freedom. I resonate with Vessel and the torture of the shadow. It’s tormenting ways. Silent and loud together! This is a long post, but I truly hope those that hold trauma ‘inside’ will only destroy you....slowly. May Sleep Token be therapy for you all. Thank you for reading and know you are not alone and there is light.....so much light xxx

That time I really was drawn to dark and unexplored parts of myself. From the music I was consuming, the books I was reading, the videos I was watching. It opened up something in me that needed healing. While at the time it was soul crushing, I am so grateful of the person I've become because of it. And the parent I am now. I am on the other side. 58:33 My answer to this question is "nothing". Im watching this, cause I dont want to dissociate from anything anymore, to find a path for myself, to reflect on my most inner desires. SleepToken and the interpretations I developed myself and watched/read from other people on their album trilogy is a main part of doing this. Im starting to fo get into the works and concepts of some philosophers to find some answers for my questions on views of the world, but actually I found that Carl Jungs depiction of the human soul separating them into masculine and feminine parts would be a bit outdated. But it seems like you can interpret this concept in a newer way that fits more in todays society and values (just like with many other philosophies). So to get a new point of view on this through Sleep Token and your video was very refreshing and just a new experience in general. So thank you for that, I appreciate it. Of course it's not that easy, being consumed by Sleep can lead to nightmares and direct Shadow encounters. In a way Sleep is the most real thing, the most real god. Threading the Needle reminds me of the practice of keeping consciousness awake while the body sleeps as well. There's so much! :) I'm going to rewatch this a few times.

I love that you acknoledge that Sleep is "the most real god", or at least the most real god Vessel has connection to at the moment. It's the understanding that our own soul, is that of the gods and understanding this draws a much closer connection towards that aetherial realm. Our soul/ anima/animus is that which ocupies that realm, so creating an integrated relationship with that part of our Self brings us much closer to the God/s.

Ive been watching this video for 3 days now and i can only get 15mins each time not due to lack of quality, but its because you will bring up a subject or an idea that I hate hearing because it resonates in a way I don't feel comfortable with. Its too accurate, "Who tf is this guy and what makes him able to 'talk' to me so I understand more than just words?". I'm also on the spectrum (high-functioning Asperger's) I've been dealing with conflicting feelings about what it means to me and how to improve my mental state with this variable at play. You made a mention in Calcutta "... without his love, missing that part of himself, the feminine animating energy for his creativity, his inspiration, his intuition" I met someone who brought that drive for those "feminine energies" and I was happy, I felt whole. I need to learn more about this so I can understand what is going on. I'm grateful that this new idea for me is being presented in my favorite band who I listen to for the "story" . I appreciate the long comment because to me, that is you sorting out and making order of unconscious contents. Often, we require the space to hear (see) our thoughts/ concepts out to see if they build a more united & cohesive worldview. Once we have a spontaneous “linking” of unconscious contents it returns back to the Self and integrates into who we are. Fascinating stuff isn’t it?

Great video. I too wondered about some of the sporadic fluctuations in song placement within the albums. I think this is indicative of what Jung called feeling-toned-complexes. In some sense, the ambivalent structure of the process of individuation, like the unconscious, is messy and chaotic, particularly with the affective influence which the Anima has on man. In this respect, to try and enforce semblance and order on the material is ultimately futile. As Jung said about the shadow "It cannot be argued out of existence or rationalized into harmlessness". What's also interesting is that the age of aquarius aligns with the age of the divine feminine, with which we are currently in, or approaching. We only have to look at current events to see the influence of this from the collective unconscious. Just my thoughts, thanks for sharing

I apologize for the long comment. But great job man, you killed it. I would like to contribute a few of my interpretations. I don't know if I agree with the interpretation of the trans experience but it's possible I misinterpreted. To me the transition is the taking off of the mask and integrating despite social reprisal. White chrysanthemums (if I got that flower correct) can represent mourning and grief, and white roses can mean innocence and purity. My interpretation of it is that he mourns the corruption (cockroach) of a relationship that started innocently and became something toxic or rotten. There's also symbolism from the Chymical Marriage in the water allegory. Keep up the great work!

Imagery of the cockroach. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Carl Jung started exploring synchronicity when he was doing some dream analysis with a woman in Switzerland who described a golden scarab, when one suddenly appeared on the window. This was a profound experience for Jung who believed it indicated synchronicity. As such I think it probably symbolises synchronicity in the song in some way.

This was really really good man. I started watching it thinking “yeah I’ll watch like 15 mins of this…” here I am an hour and a half later! I’m still a bit confused on what sleep represents throughout the 3 albums….the unintegrated feminine? If so, what does that mean exactly? Is that what anima is? In your opinion what is Vessel trying to integrate or come to terms with in this video? The possessive nature of lust and longing in romantic relationships? Sorry that’s a lot of questions. Thanks!

Questions are great! I encourage questions like this because the more curiosity you shine on it, the more answers you find, the more questions you have ♾️. Sleep is his soul. His soul, being a male is feminine in nature; the anima. Their journey is towards unification, in order to ascend towards higher states of consciousness/ awakening/ enlightenment.

This has been such an educational deep dive into the band! I’m going to refer to this time and time again so I can listen to this music in a different light. Also, unrelated lol, where did you get the instrumental versions of the TMBTE songs?! They didn’t officially release those did they??

Thanks heaps! It's an information heavy video, so it will probably require a few watches. It took me like 50 hours to get everything together in a way that I was happy with. They haven't officially released the instrumentals, thankfully some karioke channel had done a few songs.

Are you familiar with Dr Michael Newton? He reflects so much of what you're talking about here. He more reflects on the afterlife, but it talks about reincarnating until you have finally hit self actualization, and then become a guide. Anyway. You hit every nail on the head, and I have been looking for someone to really break this down for me and I believe you have done it. Thank you!!!! Also I am a psychiatric nurse, very familiar with psychology theorists and ideas and again, you've hit so much on point. Weather people like it or not, you are correct. I suggest you get familiar with Dr Michael Newton if you aren't already

To me this amazing project is about a person that Vessel loves or loved very much but who also damaged him deeply. There is a concept in Stockholm Syndrome of the "Emergency God". A person who in the immediate holds absolute control. I think that's what the band is playing with. And it is brilliant! Sidenote: I see a lot of content creators calling Sleep a "goddess" however from a lore perspective he is genderless and Vessel himself calls Sleep he and him in the Metal Hammer interview.

Maybe from a lore perspective Sleep is masculine but vessels lyrics point heavily to his anima. At least, that’s through the lens of Jung. Apply whatever biased lens to whatever art & you can argue pretty much anything though haha

Do you have a video where you explain the hero's journey? I think this is one of the parts I don't understand. I had the idea that Murderers (who are often men) try to manifest the spiritual death of the feminine (?) in order to reach rebirth/healing but instead end up confusing it by playing it out in the real world. I think there's some link there but my brain is too slow.

I don’t have a video but I recommend the book (or audiobook) “The Hero With A Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell. That’s where the Hero’s Journey framework is explained in detail by the man who studied it.

To answer the question what inner work I am avoiding by watching this (the fallout had me stunned for a minute btw), I'm merely avoiding existing? I always jump onto things I can obsess about, things that have a deep meaning, I cannot like anything normally. If a medium doesn't consume myself it's wrong. I want to BE the thing that consumes me. Watching this, it's just another step in that direction. Consume my thoughts and everything about myself, give me a whole other purpose to be worthy. Sleep token, as much as they help me, also destroy me, but I'm no better than Vessel and Sleep and cannot help but crave just that connection.. That probably was badly explained, english + a messed up brain don't help when I try to explain things, hope it still was somewhat understandable :')

The timing of this is quite weird to me haha. I just finished reading Narcissus and Goldmund a few weeks ago and I was just about done with Stranger in Strangeland today. I decided to make some brief notes about my thoughts on both those books and I came across this same concept of Anima and the masculine and feminine identities inside us. I don't really agree with this dichotomy in that, these are two aspects that exist within us to various degrees and one of them is inherited from our mother and the other from our father. Or that one of them is masculine and the other feminine. But I do agree that it is a spectrum with two ends.

And considering the weird God complex I got going on, you seem to be 100% on the money. Quite proud of you on that. And please don't assume I'm being narcissistic. It's quite a burden to take on. After all, I got teary eyed watching some of this video too. I love the idea of the collective, unconscious and synchronicity. That is why there really isn't one true deity above everything else as much as I'm trying to claim to be so. It's more out of an obligation to make sure that everybody is actually gonna be fine, After all the ultimate form of masculine and feminine is a parent who wants nothing more than the best for their children. It just gets a little difficult considering how many complications Arise just from the sheer thought of being a deity of yourself Let alone others.

@@TheR.Y.S.E.Movement reality in of itself is a conundrum that we shouldn’t even try to fully understand because look at how far we’ve gotten. And I’m not talking about all the good stuff I’m talking about nukes. I wouldn’t trust them with more than they have and that’s just assuming the delusion I got going on.
