Some of these comments do not make sense. Anika was given this award because she was the FIRST (and more than likely will be the only) African American Disney Princess ever in the franchise. So that automatically makes her a Disney legend. I think she gave a great singing and speaking performance in the movie. Her theater background really shines through in the movie and we can clearly see that in her singing performance at this event. The girl is talented, beautiful and humble. This was definitely well deserved!

Not only an amazing princess. The first hand drawn, traditional film from Disney in years that was in the vein of the classics. And the first African-American princess. She is a Disney Legend people.

She is so beautiful and humble! And not to mention her singing is perfect aswell! She deserves this as much as the other actresses that got the award!

Tiana. The hardworking, sweet soul sista of the Disney Princess world. I loved this movie because it brought back the real Disney, if only for a brief time. I am talking about the Disney that came before fancy computers and technology. Just good old fashioned hard work and hand drawn goodness. Just like Tiana herself.

I love how humble she is. She knows just who she's being inducted with, and she can't quite believe she's there with them. I love Tiana, I love The Princess and the Frog, and it might not be in that legendary category yet, but it's every bit as good as the Renaissance films. So yes, she does deserve to be inducted along with the others.

I personally believe all the voices of the Disney Princesses are already honored. Maybe not with Disney Legend title, but with the title of being a Disney Princess and that's important anyway. Princess and the Frog is a legendary film for Disney because it's Disney's first African American princess, allowing a leap in our time. Not only that, but it also displays Disney's fully independent princess. Tia doesn't need a man's help. Naveen was merely Tia's sidekick.

I don't think the award, in this particular case, was given to Anika because of how long the movie has been around for... there are different ways to interpret the word 'Legend.' I get the impression Anika was awarded this honor because of the impacts 'Tiana' has and will have on the industry and the world in general. It proves societal progression in so many ways. I believe that's what makes Anika a Legend. If you listen to the video more carefully you might get a better understanding.

I think it is great that Anika is being honored as a Disney Legend. I know it is fairly recent, but The Princess and the Frog to me is an important Disney movie. It didn't flop at the box-office by the way, it just didn't didn't out-gross certain Disney movies. But it is still an important Disney movie. If some of you thought that Judy Kuhn or Irene Bedard should of been there, I would have to disagree. Pocahontas did well at the box-office but it is not considered Disney's finest work.

Well stated, JoesGunna! She knows that she is being included in a legendary group of select voice talent, and she is humbled by that knowledge. I would have acted and spoken exactly as she did, if I realized that I was being honored alongside my childhood heroines for the same exact courtesy and gift that they brought 20+ years ago! It demonstrates the example and legacy that these gifted, beautiful ladies have set for those who will, hopefully, follow them. I am glad Anika was included in this.

I agree with Hercules. It has some of THE best music out of all the Disney films and deserves way more recognition. Disney just put it aside because it doesn't have to do with a Princess. The Muses should have been honored along with Anika, Jodei, Lea, and Paige.

@PunkNCG the thing is though that those were born into royalty. The Evil Queen was Snow White's stepmother, but her father was King. Aurora was the King and Queens daughter, but hidden from Maleficent. Jasmine was daughter of the Sultan in Agrabah, making her a royal. And Rapunzel was also a Princess, but was Kidnapped by Mother Gothel. All are royalty from birth, but others are married into it. I'm still wondering about Mulan and why at times she is a princess, but isn't a royal.

@vidaliadear Well I wasn't arguing the morals of Peter Pan, it's pretty obviously racist, just pointing out that Tiger Lily technically was the first Native American princess, since most people forget her. Other than the tribe scenes in Peter Pan, Tiger Lily was shown as a very brave little girl who refused to give up Peter's location, even willing to die for it. Also, the film was made in 1953, it wasn't lack of research, it was just considered socially acceptable/not an issue at the time.

The other thing with it is that Tina is the first African American princess, being that she is the first of African decent to be considered as a Princess in the Comp. since she married into royalty, as Pocahontas didn't. Though I do see your point that we should have honored Irene and Judy first, but it goes to the board that chooses who gets to be a legend.

Don't take me wrong, I adore Anika but is it fair to legends like Glen Keane (master animator) to not have any recognition from this company before her? Keane animated Beast, Ariel, Pocahontas, Aladdin and countless other character while Anika's only been in one production. I definitly think Anika is worthy of recognition but there are so many other talented people that are more worthy as of now.

Like I said, likely a European one. All the Disney films that originated from fairy tales are supposedly set in Europe - Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, even Tangled. The exception being the Princess and the Frog.

That was because Disney made huge accomplishments with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and the The Lion King. Audiences were excited to see the next Disney feature. Disney's marketing department were very smart about promoting Pocahontas. On the famous Lion King VHS, it featured the Academy Award winning song Colors of the Wind. It is indeed a well written song. However, when the film came out, audiences and critics were disappointed with final result.
