Ani DiFranco - Hour Follows Hour

Музыка

lyrics:
hour follows hour
like water follows water
everything is governed by the rule
of one thing leads to another
you can't really place blame
cuz blame is much too messy
some was bound to get on you
while you were trying to put it on me
and don't fool yourself
into thinking things are simple
nobody's lying still the stories don't line up
why do you try to hold on
to what you'll never get a hold on
you wouldn't try to put the ocean
in a paper cup
cuz i have had something to prove
as long as i know there's something
that needs improvement
and you know that every time i move
i make a woman's movement
and first you decide
what you've gotta do
then you go out and do it
and maybe the most we can do
is just to see each other through it
hour follows hour like water in a river
and from one to the next
we don't know what each hour will deliver
we just call it like we see it
call it out loud as we can
and then afterwards we call it all water over the dam
maybe the moral higher ground
ain't as high as it seems
maybe we are both good people
done some bad things
i just hope it was okay
i know it wasn't perfect
i hope in the end we can laugh
and say it was all worth it
cuz i have had something to prove
as long as i know something
that needs improvement
and you know that everytime i move
i make a woman's movement
and first you decide what you've gotta do
then you go out and do it
and maybe the most that we can do
is just to see each other through it
we make our own gravity to give weight to things
then things fall and they break and gravity sings
we can only hold so much is what i figure
try and keep our eye on the big picture
picture keeps getting bigger
and too much is how i love you
but too well is how i know you
and i've got nothing to prove this time
just something to show you
i guess i just wanted you to see
that it was all worth it to me

First you decide what you've gotta do. Then you go out and do it. One of my favorite songs of hers. Beautiful, delicate lyrics of heartbreak.

The track and the voice sound like Mary Coughlan an Irish singer.

I loved her music and lyrics so much until "to the teeth" They were all so clever and well put. I also felt conflicted because her lyrics were so gender specific and I felt alienated because I shared the same feelings but she was always calling out dudes and I'm sittin there thinkin "lady ive met you and its not like youre easy to be around or deal with you just have a neat way of arranging words and catchy themes" lol

I can see that. I also diverge from here politically nowadays. But I still love her and her work. She's always been the first to admit her flaws and paint things as a 2-sided story. I don't think she calls out dudes as a group so much, or fails to recognize people, including men, is individuals; she calls individuals who've been in her life, from her own perspective, which, after all is what we almost all do in our own ways. She's wise within the confines of mind/body/identity/duality, but not to the point of transcending those limitations; at least not last time I checked. But then, who is? Just enjoy the beauty and don't take it personally. Though of course, I've never met her in person as you have, so I guess I could be wrong on that level...?

All that matters is that the listener feels this into the depths of their soul. I was gonna say a bunch of other stuff, as lazarus naturals cbd does that to me. 😎

Five years after your comment it seems "To The Teeth" could not be more relevant (unfortunately).

@@alexschmidt5439 Welp, myself & 4 friends waited to meet her after her Mpls show in ‘95? & she slipped out the door, flat out ignored us & went laughing down the street w/ her band mate. One girl sobbed the several hr drive home.
