LYRICS:
do you ever just want to give up?
well, me too
are you shocked by what people get
get used to?
do you wake up in a cold sweat?
well, that’s sane
at least you got a little brain left
you got a little brain
cuz there’s foxes in the hen house
and bad news every day
and right there on pennsylvania avenue
the sheetless kkk
and there’s models wielding microphones
chasing maniacs around
and everything’s on fire
and there’s twisters touching down
and i know you got to fight your adrenaline
just to be a gentleman
and you know i got to fight my amygdala
just to keep hearin ya
but we can do this
if we try
if we do this
like it’s do or die
yes, we can do this
if we try
if we do this
like it’s do or die
so let’s pause
let us regroup
let us recover
let us recoup
let us remember
that we are charmed
let us look down at our hands
and remember we’re armed
cuz yankee doodle dandy didn’t feel free once
so he used his pen to pick the locks
and yankee doodle dandy did some doosey kinda carpentry
when he fashioned that ballot box
and if you think your vote doesn’t matter
then you’re not paying attention
yes, everything they do, they do
to keep you from their invention
yes, if you think your vote doesn’t matter
then you’re not paying attention
everything they do, they do
to keep you from their invention
but we can do this
if we try
if we do this
like it’s do or die
yes, we can do this
if we try
if we do this
like it’s do or die
do you ever just want to give up?
well, me too
are you shocked by what people get
get used to?
do you wake up in a cold sweat?
well, that’s sane
least you got a little brain left
you got a little brain
and we can do this
if we try
if we do this
like it’s do or die
yes, we can do this

    Growing up in Buffalo in the 90s, Ani and her album "Not a Pretty Girl" meant everything to me. I would ride the bus to her studio and stand outside with the hopes of seeing her. All these years later and she is still putting out music that matters and that strikes a cord in me.

    I saw her perform at FSU in Tallahassee in (I think 1992) for the prior album (self-titled). She was both energizing and hilarious and it was a wonderfully small venue. Unfortunately the next two concerts I went to she got confrontational with people in the audience but I think she's chilled out a bit since then (I mean, I'm sure the people were being a bit obnoxious, but her reaction seemed to jump instantly to anger awfully fast w/o any warning). So I stopped going to her concerts in the mid 90's. Her music has meant a lot of me and helped me understand the female perspective more than I would have otherwise I'm sure.

So, I stopped reading and looked up her name and this music video first popped up. And I honestly cried watching her shaving her hair because I knew it was a sign of strength and just getting ready for whatever. So happy I looked this woman up.

    A group of Proud Boys attacked our neighbor's kid a few weeks back because he tried to get drinks with a friend after work, where they had set up for the evening after a rally. They followed him out of the bar, surrounded his car. He got away, but one of them got injured in the process and they are calling it an "unprovoked assault" and saying he "followed them" to the bar and other BS. Then they used the injury to recruit more anger and hate, published his home and work address and stalked and harassed and threatened him and his coworkers and family at work and home. He is in hiding with his wife and kids right now. This was in Vancouver, Washington. That is the Amerikkka Trump envisions. Full of hate and fear and drunken belligerent white masculinity run amuck and on the brink of civil war. Trump is legitimately mentally ill. He needs treatment, not public office! And I say that with all the compassion I can muster...I wonder how many of the Proud Boys have undiagnosed or untreated mental illness, as well.

    Ani has a gorgeous house. Old style Victorian architecture in the heart of New Orleans. I love that she'd not afraid to share her space with us in videos.
