Ani DiFranco - Adam & Eve

Музыка

lyrics: tonight you stooped to my level
i am your mangy little whore
now you're trying to find your underwear
and then your socks and then the door
and you're trying to find a reason
why you have to leave
but i know it's 'cuz you think you're adam
and you think i'm eve
you rhapsodize about beauty
and my eyes glaze
everything i love is ugly
i mean really, you would be amazed
just do me a favor
it's the least that you can do
just don't treat me like i am
something that happened to you
i am truly sorry about all this
you put a tiny pin prick
in my big red balloon
and as i slowly start to exhale
that's when you leave the room
i did not design this game
i did not name the stakes
i just happen to like apples
and i am not afraid of snakes
i am truly sorry about all this
i envy you your ignorance
i hear that it's bliss
so i let go the ratio
of things said to thing heard
as i leave you to your garden
and the beauty you preferred
and i wonder what of this
will have meaning for you
when you've left it all behind
i guess i'll even wonder
if you meant it
at the time

Saw her in New Hampshire on this tour. Didn't even know who she was. I went with my fiance at the time. I instantly was a fan after that night! Blew my mind!

One of my favorites by Ani but all of her songs since I've been listening to her in the 90s have touched my soul I swear there's that one I don't like she is a musical genius in my opinion and it really speaks to my generation + all of the the old angsty painful songs that I love so much

One of the best songs I've ever heard, yet one of the hardest songs to listen to. Really hits a personal place.

Reminds me so much of a relationship I was in, beaten down constantly mentally and physically, and locked inside closets or the bathroom.... never ALLOWED to leave the house. When I finally heard this song one day... afterwards, he came home i finally beat him down with EVERYTHING i had!! And at the start of the relationship we were so in love! That is, until we moved in together! It turned into a house of horrors! AND WE HAD ROOMMATES!!! But when he left, I was locked in the closet, he swore if I let anyone know he would hunt me down and kill me. But I beat him down with all I had, I shattered his cheek bone, broke his nose (more like flattened it) broke 5 ribs, broke at least 7 fingers and shattered a bone in his leg. I went NUTS! After 13 months of his abuse, I heard this song and I was done! I then after that became a bouncer in clubs and security in hospitals. I have now been kicking ass for over 14 yrs and love it! The guys say I'm tougher than most of them, but I look like a tiny girl! I'm telling you, ALL OF YOU GIRLS OUT THERE... it can change! You CAN do it, maybe not what I did, but you CAN GET OUT AND CAN GET HELP!

Thank you! I hate to say this, but that jerk actually did come back after me, found me, WITH HIS MOTHER, yes his mother was in on it... And they got me into the back of her car and were taking me somewhere to do God knows what, because I really messed him up, but when we were on the highway, I kept fighting in the car, then, since the mother was driving, and he was in the passenger seat, I kicked him in the face and opened the car door and rolled out on the highway!! Which the car was going about 55mph, I tucked and rolled, and got severe asphalt burns!!! Cars skidded around me I'm surprised I didn't get hit, but this one car that was behind us, she slammed on her breaks and yelled at me to get in her car! I got into her car really quick, and she said to me that she was following us the whole way because she saw me fighting with the people in the car that I was with! She knew I was in trouble and she was actually following the car to see where we were going because she could see that I was in trouble! So when I opened the door she actually slowed down and tried to drive in between the lanes so she knew I wouldn't get hit because she knew I was jumping out! Thank goodness for that girl that was driving behind us because then she slammed on the brakes and made sure that I could get out and run to her car and then she took me to the police! That girl was so nice and to this day she's actually now one of my best friends! So I made a really good friend out of it and now this guy and his mother are in jail for a very long time, for one because they got charged for kidnapping but we also ended up charging them with a whole bunch of other charges because they had a whole bunch of drugs on them and the cops said that since I was abused for so long, they would do anything that they could to put them away for a really long time the both of them! And I'm friends with a lot of cops now too so of course they put as many charges on him and his mother as they possibly could! So in the end I won for sure! And I am stronger now all because of it and I will never ever let anybody ever get me down like that ever again! I am bigger and better and badder than ever! And not to mention, now that I work security and as a bouncer in clubs and bars, I now look to protect people and I see those people who are abusive towards others and I take them down with everything that I've got! And those people that are weak and defenseless, I am able to be there for them and show them that they have the power to be the most powerful person they possibly can be! And I started actually doing counseling for women who have been abused and have been or are currently in abusive relationships! And here's what I tell everybody... I don't understand what you're going through and no one will understand what you're going through! Everyone's situation is completely different! If anyone ever says to you oh I understand, they're lying they're just trying to make you feel better! No one will ever understand you! But, I'm here for you and I always will be here for you so please just try to help me understand what you've been through, try to help me understand what you're going through and we can work through it together! Because you're not in this alone and you will never be alone in this! no one should have to go through anything like this alone! And if anyone ever needs to talk about anything like this, and if anybody's reading this and you do need to talk about this contact me IMMEDIATELY!!! I mean it! Because you do need to talk about it, and you do need to try to make other people understand! Because you don't have to try and act tough!
