As a vintage computing enthusiast who occasionally restores machines like these, I find it a bit sad that these will all get destroyed, but I still very much enjoyed watching this first installment! This will be a fun series to watch!

Btw: msoffice.exe did open up-it was that little toolbar in the top-right that had shortcuts to open each of the individual Office programs.

I'd make far more in revenue making these than if I spent weeks upon weeks restoring all of these to mint condition and selling them. Plus I enjoy making these way more than dealing with muppets on Marketplace and eBay.

@@smashthings1 Yeah, I get it. It takes a lot of time and effort to restore these nicely, and sometimes money too when you have to repair or replace parts that have failed or were stripped out before being sold or thrown away. And then there’s the “buyers” who just complain and flake and waste time and try to scam you and have no actual intention to buy. I only ever do restorations for myself or friends so I don’t have to deal with that. Anyway, I’m most looking forward to seeing that giant old server (or whatever it was that had the huge tower case) getting beat up!

Hi Robert! You are a genius finding that ancient PC to smash. Reminds me of the computer I wrote my thesis on except that didn't have a hard drive - just a pair of 5.25 inch floppies running msdos and WordStar. You even seem to have the dot matrix printer which was state of the art when that PC was built lol.

That monitor took an heavy amount of abuse, yet stubborn in being ripped apart. 👀

Nice to see you back in the smashup room ... 👍 ... ironic seeing the clock showing 4:20 too! 😎

@@zidane2k1 I have TWO deluxe office chairs! One is super vintage. Although the blue one was used for this series. It was made in 1989! Timeless design - it looked like it could have been from the 2010's.

that crt was clearly fine, the CMOS never made an alert, they usually do. the hard drive probably was dying but easy to replace.

No matter what shutter speed I set it couldn't sync to the monitor. Not sure what refresh rate it was running at.
