ब्रिटिश हुकूमत के दौरान गोरखाओं के शौर्य के कई किस्से इतिहास में दर्ज हैं। देहरादून के निकट खलंगा-नालापानी किले पर 1814 में अंग्रजों ने हमला कर दिया। हजारों की तादात में ब्रिटिश सैनिक टूट पड़े। लेकिन बलभद्र थापा के नेतृत्व में महज 600 गोरखाओं ने ऐसा शौर्य दिखाया कि अंग्रेजों की पूरी सेना समाप्त कर दी। इस शौर्यगाथा को खलंगा के युद्ध स्मारक में दर्ज किया गया है। गोरखाओं की बहादुरी से प्रभावित होकेर अंग्रेजों ने 1815 में रॉयल गोरखा रेजिमेंट का गठन किया।
Many stories of bravery of Gorkhas during the British rule are recorded in history. The Khalanga-Nalapani fort near Dehradun was attacked by the British in 1814. Thousands of British soldiers broke down. But only 600 Gorkhas under the leadership of Balbhadra Thapa showed such bravery that they destroyed the entire British army. This bravery has been recorded in the war memorial of Khalanga. Impressed by the bravery of the Gorkhas, the British formed the Royal Gorkha Regiment in 1815.
