Angie Martinez IRL | Melyssa Ford

In this week's episode of the Angie Martinez IRL Podcast, Angie sits down with Canadian media personality, actress, and resilient survivor, Melyssa Ford.
Angie and Melyssa reflect on her prominence during an era in Hip-Hop when the industry's landscape didn't align with today's norms of consent. Delving into her experiences as a video vixen in the early 2000s, Angie explores Melyssa's journey and challenges during that time.
Their paths may have crossed on multiple occasions, but it was a gathering for a mutual friend that brought Angie and Melyssa together, unveiling the deeply impactful story of Melyssa's near-fatal car accident. This life-altering event left her with a traumatic brain injury, ushering in a new chapter filled with overwhelming struggles-battling suicidal thoughts and grappling with the weight of surviving such a harrowing incident.
Adding to her tribulations, Melyssa was confronted with her mother's terminal diagnosis, reigniting a complex and emotional journey in their relationship.
Despite enduring these profound challenges, Melyssa Ford bravely shares her path to healing. From grappling with self-medication to discovering solace in self-help literature, engaging in transformative shadow work, and finding strength through activities like pilates, Melyssa has reclaimed agency over her life and narrative.
This episode stands as a testament to Melyssa's courage and vulnerability, offering an inspiring narrative of resilience and triumph over adversity. Tune in for a deeply moving conversation you won't want to miss.

hang in there Brother; 🥹🤞🏾✨🫶🏾 No matter what happens in your universe or how dark it may seem remember that each day the trouble or difficulties begin to fade or something happens to it like Grief 😢. so i lost my best friend aka my mom 6 years as of tomorrow january 3rd 2018, my birthday is on the 6th i’ll be 30 she would have been 48 but i have learned & wethered the world, my emotional roller coaster and the emotions of the people around me. The feeling that grief fades away like troubles?? no it stays the same size but the most magical and i say Mystically emotionally therapeutic human thing ever happens, you grow around the trouble the grief the difficulties & you keep that pain or emptiness in your body for the rest of your days on Earth …. it’s a curse and gift because that awful thing allows you to remember the good it once brought you or the drive it gave you…. SURVIVING IN THIS WORLD IS THE MOST HARDEST THING ANYONE EVER CAN DO. BE BRAVE 29 YR OLD BLACK MAN. BE STRONG BROTHER. DONT SURVIVE BUT LIVE ❤️‍🩹

And not hate in a violent way but hate having to listen to a women's perspective or opinion on things. Especially a woman that's not like a "IG baddie". It's why Joe does the dog piling thing where they basically make fun of everything Mel says. He's literally catering to a specific audience that he feels is the majority.

She’s too mature and intellectual for the JBP. I feel like she shrinks herself to be apart of their conversations. I loved how articulate and honest she was in this interview.

And as a Scorpio I completely relate to how she had to deal with how she treated herself. We are so hard on ourselves and think we don’t deserve good things . It’s a continuous work in progress

This was by far one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. Thank you Melyssa Ford and Angie Martinez. When Melyssa spoke about volunteerism at the end. Service onto others helps so much !

This is why this podcast/show is my favorite. I always knew of Melyssa Ford but this is on another level. She’s amazing. Seriously. Such a beautiful human inside and out. She’s interesting and so articulate. This is so fresh.. everything she’s been through and going through. 4 years!! 2019 and 2023 😫 with covid in between.. very insane times. This is one of my favorite episodes of them all.. Melyssa’s so relatable and REAL! Everyday human going through some REAL shit with reality and self.. It’s a an innate gift that Angie has to give such space and grace for everyone to express themselves. Everyone doesn’t have that.

Listening to her story lets me know without a doubt that the JBP is a toxic environment that she shouldn’t be in. Melissa has been through a lot but is strong af.

Nah she just needs a podcast with more softball topics, not one where they’re actually talking to provoke thought

Strong women don’t do well in environments like that because the men want to keep you under thumb or will leave you out to dry. Same happened to Angela Yee

She could quit. No one is forcing her to stay. Yall don't give the men enough credit. He gave her an opportunity, but yet you call them toxic. I like her on the pod, but if it's too much for her, she could start her own. She has a big enough name.

The Joe Budden Podcast is those 10 men circled around her! It's beyond sad and disturbing. You can tell that Joe Budden beats women because he abuses her for sport. Toxic traits

Never knew this about this woman and I am so glad she had a space to open up and thank her for sharing her story. I pray God continues to strengthen her and that she always know that she is loved. Keep going Melyssa Ford, keep shinning your light. It is not in vain.

I remember when Melissa’s mother passed. My mom passed away shorty after. The way she explains the loss is so relatable to me. I appreciate her sharing the story! It’s still hard for me to verbalize and she did it perfectly here! Peace and blessings to Melissa! 🙏🏾
