What is so impressive about young Angelina is that she chooses well-known or iconic songs-and she gives us her version of them. She has the musicality and the confidence to go her own way with these songs. And of course, she then gives us her uniquely beautiful voice interpreting the lyrics so that we understand and feel every word. The hit version of this song by Roberta Flack about 50 years ago was absolutely beautiful-like nothing we heard before. Angelina, at 11 years old, offers her version-and it’s done so respectfully and emotionally. Beautiful.

Sono pienamente in sintonia con le tue impressioni e col commento di Claudio Marcucci . Un esempio incredibile è la sua reinterpretazione di suspiciuos minds di Elvis. Un capolavoro di arrangiamento e interpretativo

Once again, incredibly insightful. Yes I agree,. The video was probably being directed by Grandmother. Her Grandmother is an artist and often close by. Another thing to consider is that these home sessions are spontaneous. The arrangement is done just prior to recording. This pair feeds off each other.

I don't think these videos are directed at all. As I understand it (from watching Alan Papiers interview with Egil) they happened when Angelina visited Egils "studio". Quite impromtu, no rehearsal beforehand, lyrics on Angelinas phone, microphone plugged into Egils guitar amplifier, camera (with it's tiny microphone) on a tripod - and go.. One or two takes.. No direction whatsoever.. 🙂

In an interview, the guitarist, Egil Claussen, said these home videos are totally "raw," with no preparation or post production, just Grandma Mery's videocam.. Neither of them know the song well, she is reading the lyrics on her i-pad & he spent 15 minutes learning the chord changes. They usually don't need a 2nd take unless he messes up (she never does) & it's totally done on the fly. That's the genius of Angelina & good guitarists just follow whatever she does.

I do not have your technical background in music. To me Angelina instinctively knows when she sings, what manner of singing will express her interpretation of the songs intent, that gives it the feeling that the writer intended, and Angelina is a VERY emotive singer, and you WILL feel that emotion. I do...and I've been in love since.

This tribute to Roberta Flack is a 'spot on' rendition where Angelina just brings her 'Jazz' roots to the fore and simply mesmerizes the listener. The fact that it is a casual 'at home jam session makes it all the more remarkable.

Thank you for another excellent reaction. I really appreciate the depth of your observations and the fact that you are willing to express your feelings. There is another cover she does, the English version of Jacques Brel Ne me quitte pas, or If You Go Away, sung at roughly the same age. For me, it shows her ability to understand and portray a wide range of emotions, from hope to despair.

It’s interesting that in almost every song, even if it’s just a “hey let’s record a song” video, she has these moments of magic that are like 🤷🏻‍♀️ a religious experience🤷🏻‍♀️even for the not religious, hard to explain, she has a passage here that is absolutely one the most beautiful things I’ve heard. She just makes beautiful art,

Paolo, I agree with every comment you made. You were spot-on with Angelina's techniques and choices throughout the song. She has a very high musical IQ. The lighting on her face, I think, was not planned. In fact, the song was not planned until a few minutes before recording, which makes her performance even more amazing. We see her reading the lyrics as she interprets her version on the fly. The guitarist, Egil Clausen, in an interview said that all of their "home" videos were spontaneous. They would play off of each other - do you know this song?, do you like this song?, I discovered a song and want to sing it, etc. They would decide on a song and Egil would go over the chords, etc. while Angie downloaded the lyrics ... then record the first take. Occasionally a second take was recorded. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmmrudqkZcm_epM.html

So many times soloists studies a piece (played on an instrument or sung) for weeks.. Every nuance.. plans it out in minute detail.. and the result is contrived and forced.. no natural flow.. And this girl doesn't rehearse the song in advance at all, it just flows naturally out of her.. A complete musical genius.

Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019. Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to jazz at early age. From Republic Records bio, Angelina said “Today, I sing barefoot as a reminder of all the kids in the world who need help and support.” See Angelina's book "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) for background story of 6-year old Angelina meeting shoeless girl to whom Angelina gave her shoes. A few of the hundreds of covered/original songs by Angelina include: -- What A Difference A Day Makes (as 8-year old, sung Dinah Washington classic on Allsang På Grensen at Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, Norway on June 3, 2014. Angelina's presentation of song belies her age: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIeayaWCd8edm5c.html) -- Fly Me To The Moon (as 10-year old, sung with acoustic guitar in one of her most viewed videos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKKi3MSdpJfFgqg.html) -- When You're Smiling (as 11-year old, starts out with her missing school attendance. She is riding bike and comes across sad girl crying and stops to see what is wrong. You will have to watch to see what happens next: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lICpsLNvo5rMc7Q.html) -- Shield [as 12-year old, Angelina co-wrote this song and sung it on very popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan (2.5 to 3 million viewers per show): kzread.info/dash/bejne/noWot8SPe8WWptY.html] -- 7th Heaven (co-wrote as 15-year old. Produced by Grammy Award winning Stargate. Studio live performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lIFsptyGgsXPecY.html) [Angelina believes: “Life has ups and downs, and you always have to be ready for whatever is coming up. The song is a reminder to look at everything in a positive light and not get down on yourself. Most importantly-no matter what you’re doing-don’t give up. It’s also meant to make you dance.”] -- Billie Jean (as 15-year old, Angelina completely turns Michael Jackson’s 1982 hit song on its head by doing a jazzy version that re-invents the song to something different than original: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qqRqmc1yp86Yfdo.html) -- Easy On Me (as 15-year old, Angelina sings this 2021 hit song by Adele. It is pop ballad expressing nostalgia, regret, and forgiveness. Pretty amazing how Angelina can sing emotions she has yet to fully experience: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6Srl7NwZsu9h6g.html) -- You Say (as 15-year old, Angelina exquisitely covers Lauren Daigle’s hit song (over 6 million units sold) that won a Grammy Award and was lead song on her 2018 album Look Up Child: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a39srLGdZLmvoM4.html) -- My Funny Valentine (as 16-year old, music video shot in LA antique store and directed by Angelina. Angelina puts unique twist to this 1969 Elvis Presley hit song by slowing it way down and rearranging lyrics: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIiWrcqkk8i4YJM.html) -- Valerie (as 17-year old, sung Amy Winehouse’s 2007 hit song live on Germany’s Next Top Model popular TV show by Heidi Klum: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJWcrbxvkbyskqw.html) -- Love Don’t Let Me Go (co-wrote as 17-year old, music video shot in black and white interspersing Angelina singing in studio with her driving 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster with grandmother Mery Zamani in car: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4lqubuYqpu8pZs.html) -- Now I’m The Fool (co-wrote as 17-year old, music video shot in black and white. Angelina is sassy and pours out her heart with feelings of pain expressed visually and vocally: kzread.info/dash/bejne/anaMpbiSj5C4nbg.html) -- Unchained Melody (as 17-year old, sung at 2023 Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo honoring the jailed Iranian winner Narges Mohammadi. I just love your reactions to Angelina Jordan! Fantastico! She’s special..and yes I agree..her face does shine like a diamond..for me she sings as much with her eyes and physique as she does with that beautiful voice ..I love how she plays with the timing here too..behind and then sometimes ahead of the beat..but always perfectly timing when it matters..I think it’s a jazz technique referred to as back phrasing..Ciao..

Angelina told in the video "Angelina Jordan10 years in the making" that she knew very early that the music she listened to were bigger than herself. And through all the videos I have seen from her, she has a great respect for the original music and artists. You should also watch the interview Alan papier had with Egil Clausen (the gutarist in this video). Ther they talk about these songs. Angelina shoud be 11 at this time I think.

Hello, Paolo! Thank you again for an incredible reaction to Angelina. I have been missing you to be honest. I really appreciate your inputs and thoughts here, which I haven't even been thinking about myself, after having watched the recording (as well of all of her other recordings) hundreds of times. I guess that it sometimes takes a "fresh" eye to see these things. These are things that help paint an even more complete picture of what we're hearing and seeing, further putting the "exceptional" stamp on it. And also thanks a lot for checking this one out, as it in my opinion is a prime example of her maturity as a singer and interpreter at that age. Her choices are exquisite😊 I wish you a wonderful weekend, my friend! Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

I agree that the light on her face is an exceptional effect. I think, in this case, it is mostly random how effective it is. Still, it is interesting that in a number of her newer videos, light is often used almost as an angelic halo to highlight her face. The emotion in the video is as real and raw as attraction and infatuation/ love can get.
