This is my favorite of all Angelina's. She wrote and recorded this at 12 years old. I listen to this every night before sleep.

It's interesting how Angelina can make you feel how she wants you to feel. In an interview on TV2 when she performed the song, she said she wanted this to sound like a Bond song, and arranged it accordingly. Everyone agrees it does!

The line "Forgive me for all that I am" shows Angelina's self awareness that she is a burden on her family and inner circle. Those close to her have gladly taken on the responsibility to SHIELD Angelina from all dangers.

Andy, I completely agree, that is the line that, more than any other, gets me choked up every time I listen to this song. Such an incredible human being, such a beautiful soul, such a pure joy, and yet she’s asking for forgiveness. And I think you nailed it. She knows that in a way she’s a “burden“ on her family, that she’s the constant centre of attention etc. and that is not really what her character is about. People underestimate this song so much because it has more of a commercial feel than What Is Life and Oslo. But I really feel like this song gets deeper into her soul than either of those other two (also brilliant) original songs.

Another perspective on this song: With due respect to everyone's opinion of what and who these words of Shield are written about. Some of these words could be about her Mother and family, however Angelina has never herself claimed as of yet that they are penned for her family. I have watched every interview by her and so far she has never claimed they are written solely for her Mother and family. If some one has seen an interview where she makes this claim, that I have missed please give the reference , would love to see it. Most people commenting seem to know very little of the spiritual words she has used in this song. The words to this song are very deep for a young girl to have penned and yet she wrote every one of them , they are difficult to put them as tribute to her mother or family if you know anything of spiritual matters. These words line up perfectly with scripture. Some one has has probably posted their opinion that this was a tribute to her mother and others have adopted it as a fact. Either way it is an awesome song for a young girl to have written and arranged. I have watched every one of her videos and interviews and never ever once heard her make that claim that these words were about her family and mother, if some one has a link to such a claim by her I will retract . I am pretty sure if she wrote a song about her mother as a tribute it would not have the spiritual meanings this one has . The scripture verses below give the foundation for this song very clearly. Cheers Also the video version of this with her standing alone beside railroad track shows her with the outfit she made with her Grandmothers paintings on it and she begins to run down the tracks holding some flowers in her hand and she has shoes on, however in the next scene we see her coming out from inside a concrete culvert but his time she is barefoot wearing a white dress similiar to a white robe with a cord tied around it. As she comes out she stops looks back at where she just came from for a few moments and then turns around and walks up to a cross beside the tracks which is adorned with small tattered flags of all the colors from her outfit in the first scene as well as the flowers now in the center of the cross. She now walks up right in front of the cross raises both arms and then embraces and kisses the cross. Next she is behind the cross seemingly struggling to hold on to it as the wind blows . Then a train come by fast and she jumps up and down waves excitedly to the train as it roars out of sight. She then kneels down to a small fire and begins messing with it and on the ground there is what looks like money all around the fire. There is so much spiritual symbolism in this video one could write a book on this video alone., without even contemplating the words to the song.

" Sadly some people have a hard time with understanding what another perspective means. What 12 year old both understands and appreciates the parenting and protection that comes from the grownups in their life? This song shows maturity way beyond her years and the great family she is surrounded by, which includes her Uncle (who is also her agent) and her brilliant Grandmother. It is a song that has a curious history behind it, and in my opinion, it is her best song. Filipe, I completely agree with you, this is in my opinion the best thing Angelina has done, or at least my favorite anyway. Obviously her vocal display on America’s Got Talent Champs was literally off the charts technically but what is special about Shield is that it is her song and that for me it captures a lot and what she is about as an artist and a person. There is gratitude, humility and self reflection in this song. All captured beautifully in the lyrics to a song that is equal parts her own soul, and soul music itself. It’s exactly the direction that I would personally love to see her retain as the core of her musical identity. A lot of people prefer to hear her with more minimalist productions, just a guitar or piano and voice, like Bohemian Rhapsody or California Dreaming or a Wicked Games. Of course, who doesn’t love that, and I hope she does keep it as part of her repertoire. But I also think there’s a place for a big sound, that dense loaf, crispy on the outside, and dense with meaning and richness and goodness on the inside. Incidentally, as I write this, I’m looking at a beautiful, round dense loaf of sourdough bread that my wonderful daughter has made for us.😊 I will be thinking of this song as I bite into it. What an awesome metaphor.

Great reaction. She really hooks you in with this one. Recognizing she needs protection at the same time realizing her life desires make life more difficult for that Shield is pretty mature processing. There are two other videos with this song-- one on stage and one a music video by her grandmother. The tv one on stage is Angelina as super pro singer just doing an excellent performance. Her other two originals are much different and, I think, you will not like them like this one, but they are both exceptional as well. What is Life really allows you focus on her smooth jazzy voice as she gives insight into her 12 year old philosophy of life. Her voice is to die for. Shield is a top ten for me. Too bad Billie Eilish already has dibs on the next Bond film theme. Maybe the following one.
