Pat Allen obvious this song about 50 times every time I cry every time she makes me feel special inside. She sang from her heart heart heart she sent directly to her in a special way. I cannot poop from Krider, who sang it I’m crying now she’s special. She’s a gift to humanity.

Excellent presentation, Alan. I believe that culturally, Norwegians are more restrained people. Also, Angelina's maternal grandparents are Japanese and Iranian. In general, these cultures are also less outwardly expressive, and historically more so for women. I simply adore Angelina's modesty. Adele's style is upfront, almost confrontational. She looks and sings directly at the audience. Angelina sings within herself and to us individually. She often closes her eyes or rolls her eyes inward when she performs. It's like her voice is a conduit of an internal manifestation. Adele's voice can quickly reach your soul. Angelina's voice overtakes you to a point of near paralysis then, not only reaches your soul, but penetrates it.

Beautifully said Jerry, I agree with everything you said. I think the Japanese culture has had as much influence as the Norwegian culture has. Mery moved to Japan for college & married a Japanese man. Michael has said he & Sara lived in Tokyo into their teens before they moved to Norway & all 3 speak Japanese. So even though this was before Angelina was born, these are the 3 people around her always who have an immense influence from the Japanese culture.

Thank you, Alan, for this compare and contrast reaction of Angelina and Adele. It was terrific. Thank you for bringing out the qualities in each one's voices and noting how each artist has a different quality in their styles, as a result of different backgrounds that create the "who they are. Angelina is not in this to prove herself better than anyone. Anyone can see that Angelina doesn't sing to compare herself with anyone, not to make herself look better. That's one of the special things about her. She loves to sing. It's fulfilling for her just to sing and share her gifts with people. I pray that she never loses this attitude. It's more valuable than all the money a superstar like her could make. Thanks again for another one of your characteristically great reactions ."

Many thanks, Alan, for yet another interesting series of observations of our young super-star. I "like and enjoy" listening to Adele, but Angelina gathers me in, without reservation, to that wonder world where she goes when she sings. Regarding Adele, lets hope she is able to recover more completely from the interventions she's undergone. Listening to her most recent performances is almost painful, when you compare them to what her voice was previously. 😪

Very interesting analysis, Alan! You certainly proved your point with the examples you gave. Adele's voice is as you say more straight forward, powerful and imposing. And there's no doubt she's a wonderful artist and composer. But once I've heard Angelina sing the same songs, Adele's voice almost annoys me, lol. There's a high pitch in her voice that is not pleasant at some point. On the other hand, Angelina's voice is warm, tender, enveloping. She grabs the listeners' attention in the first 10 seconds of each song and pierces their souls. Each note, each inflection brings true meaning to every word she sings and you are compelled to listen and follow her on the song's journey. It's such a difficult feeling to describe!

Adele start singing in her teens used to live in totemham bourogh , with a single english mother, she is a bit loud but funny with a nice high voice and famous songs. Angelina started maybe since she was 4 from swedish father, norwegian mother and artist design and paint iranian grandmother and a japanese grandfather and by 7years old she knew the biggest jazz singers, with such multiculture influence, family love and support only the sky is the limited. The obvious effort that goes into these is so far beyond what we see presented by the vast majority of AJ content providers. I guess, I have a reserved personality, so Angelina's singing style matches me the most. Your observations let me come this realization! As you know there is a complete video of both of them singing the Million Miles Away song together verse vs verse. After about 2 verses if you are listening to this with another person you will turn to look at each other and start to laugh. Just because she does a cover of an Adele song, doesn't mean she needs to be compared to Adele. How would you like it if all of your accomplishments were compared to someone else? Personally I believe Angelina is more talented than most, if not all of the artists she covers.

You've given a most interesting insight that helps me to understand my own music preferences. And it makes sense that two of my favorite artists are Norah Jones and Diana Krall, known for soulful music and not belting. Not surprisingly, I'm the only one among everyone I know who is not ecstatic about Adele, while recognizing her immense talent. All of the Angelia covers of Adele you sampled and many others, including her Sam Smith covers, bring their music into the soulful genre, and I have an emotional response to every one of them. It's like a tuning fork that resonates when a matching pitch is played. That said, Angelina has such immense talent that she could belt these songs out to match Adele's style. Your insight on personality and culture explain her choices. Finally, you might consider another review with songs by Norah Jones and Diana Krall that Angelina has also performed to show similarities.

Foghorn90 Leghorn I read somewhere that Nora Jones is signed to a label that is a division of UMG. Just as Republic Records is another of their Divisions.. I said from the beginning when I heard Angelina signed with Republic that I thought she would have been treated better had she signed with Nora Jones label, because Angelina is a Jazz, and soul singer, not a pop singer like Republic's cash cow Taylor Swift. Angelina and Nora would become friends. Not so with Angelina and Superstar Taylor.

@@leebrn8588 I totally agree with you. Angelina COULD sing pop but that end of the music industry is far more about showmanship and personality for people with little appreciation or understanding of sophisticated jazz music. It is also a mill that churns out young talent and abandons them; brutal. Taylor Swift is an immensely talented pop singer but a lot of it is due to her persona and catchy lyrics. AJ's challenge, I believe, will be to either remain true to her jazz roots and maintain her style or to jump in to the lion's den to achieve superstar power.

Alan, good video and as always you do a great job splicing these performances together. I have played Angelina’s Million Miles to a lot of friends and the most common response I hear is, “Is that a new song by Adele?” When I tell them “no”, that is 15 year old Angelina Jordan they are surprised and amazed. Keep up the videos!

Great job Alan... you said, AJ started with Billie Holiday, then Amy Winehouse, now Adele, and what I am hoping for is to see her cover the late, great Karen Carpenter, specifically "One Love", written by Richard Carpenter. The lyrics of that song fit her 'young life".

Brilliant analysis Alan. Personality leading to presentation. I think we all feel the depths of the emotions of the words in a deeper way listening to Angelina because I think Angelina feels these things more deeply than Adele. Just my feeling.

Yes ibsee the difference of their personality from how they express their song when they're singing . But both of them are fantastic artist with 2 different personalities I think .

Consider that Adele has lived the experience she wrote the song about, and Agelina is singing from a place of empathy. Perhaps two different paintings represented.

I think I'd nitpick your position by tossing in another factor: "How much has each singer had with singing that particular song?" Adele may have song MILLION about a million times. Angelina's probably done that ?? 100,000 ?? Naw... not even half that, not even a tenth. Plus, a composer can tire of performing compositions as if they must dredge up the original song's meanings and heartfelt values. THAT IS TAXING. It wears down composer's performance over time, and I'd venture to bet that every performer has an uber-popular song of theirs that they simply dread performing one... more... time. Thanks as always for your keen observations and presenting critiques worth thinking about.

About models... Your analyses have shown how the confluence of unconditional love, role modeling, exposure to jazz, an and an innate affinity for music were factors in the development of AJ as a singer. Add to that her family’s protection and nurturing of her career. But one of the biggest mysteries is how did she develop that soul in her voice, given she never experienced the pain and hardship of loss. Angelina herself gives us the clue when she said that if there had been no Billie Holiday and the love she conveyed in her songs, there would be no singer named Angelina Jordan. However, the story of Billie Holiday is simultaneously tragic and a poverty to riches to poverty tale. I think it is very likely that Angelina read about her idol Billie Holiday’s life. Anyone reading about Billie Holiday’s life has to empathize with some of the pain in the abuse, abandonment she had to endure. Not to mention the racism she had to deal with (read the lyrics to her signature sing “Strange Fruit”). We do know Angelina had heightened empathy at an early age from the story about giving her shoes to a poor girl. So, my theory is that, while Angelina did not personally experience the pain and tragedy on her own life, she was able to empathize or relate to the tragedy in her musical idol, Billie Holiday.

We can't compare Angelina with Adele.1.They don't have the same backround.2.They don't have the same voice.Angelina have half-years of life from Adele witch thats mean that her vioce is in progress for at least 10 years.Adele is 32-33 in May Angelina is 15.They don't have the same experiences in life wich means a lot.If you watch carefully you will notice that the covers of Angelina are one speed or more down from the original songs. Not all of them but the most. This is good for two reasons.First and with her own arrangement she makes the songs her own.Second she does not hurt her voice cords because they are still in growth. They may be in the same musical genres but Angelinas vioce is more delicate and more complexed and allow me the term soundcolorful. It's a gift and she must work with it and she must protect it.Lets see what the future will bring. We are waiting all this coronovirus thing to finish and hope to see her live.

There's a longing in Angelina's voice, almost with a religious nuance, that no other artist has got. I've no idea if Angie is religious or not, perhaps it's only an influence from spirituals from the 20th century.
