Here is the story of why Angelina always performs barefoot. At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.

They call her The girl with a 1000 voices. Recommend " I'd Rather Go Blind " she plays with her voice and changes it to fit her interpretation of the song. Pure genius, best cover artist I've ever heard. She will soon be among the best vocal artists on the planet.

Thanks for that reaction. To answer your question, no one knows how she does it, but she does it. Just soaks up that jazz vibe. The story with the shoes is that when she was 6 she was travelling abroad (probably Iran, since that's where her grandmother comes from) and came across a girl her age weighing people in the street for money. The girl was poor and had no shoes, so Angelina gave her her own shoes. She then asked the girl what her dream was, and she replied she wanted to be a doctor. The girl then asked Angelina for her dream and she said to be a superstar. The girl said she would pray for her dream to come true, and Angelina said she would from now on always perform barefoot until all the children in the world had shoes. Btw, I hope Penny doesn't keep you awake at night with her teething (but she does anyway, right?)

Cute daughter, bro. Yep, Angelina's genius is undeniable. I've identified three elements that I believe are major contributors to that genius: 1) she has anatomical advantages in the way her larynx and resonators are shaped, which gives her those pleasing tones; 2) she's an unrivaled mimic with a keen ear, which allows her to learn techniques quickly; and 3) she focuses all her attention when she sings, as this video so clearly shows. What I can't figure out is how she delivers an authentic emotional experience in her songs, no matter what age she is. That's the X factor for me. Great father/daughter reaction! I'll recommend Angelina's I'm Still Holding Out For You, recorded about a year after this, for your next reaction.

Minor correction/clarification: "About a year after" might be stretching it a bit, regarding the timing of ISHOFY. This was recorded sometime before 2015-05-09 (based on the fact that a few still images from the music video were posted in a now-private YT video on that date), and ISHOFY was reportedly recorded within the first week of 2017 (according to one story about the song). But whatever.🙂

You like many of us need to go to her merch page and get this little strap thingy that keeps our jaws from dropping to the floor [actually just kidding, she doesn't have such but should!]. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. Ken Screamin' Jay's performance "is difficult to emulate" because the producer got the whole band shit-faced drunk before the song was recorded.

You have to listen to this several times to catch all the nuances. This is more than a performance, it's an experience that requires close attention to all the detail from beginning to end. She arranged this to honor the original artist Screamin Jay Hawkins who did it as a parody. She made it into a serious jazz piece. Probably the most iconic child recording of a song ever. Watch her movements, facial expressions, eyes. She's knows every note of every instrument. She gave the band director last minute changes just before recording. The studio refers to her as the Boss, because she knows what she wants in her recordings. Her unreleased demo of I'm Still Holding Out For You, by Baby Fuzz, must be reacted too soon. She was 10 in that one.

First I want to say that if you look at Angelina’s stats on views on KZread she has over 1 Billion views and on Facebook 2 1/2 Billion views she’s doing something right. Now as far as being brought up with fame, her mother Sara was very aware of what it was like Sara’s mother is world renowned poet and artist Mery Zamani aka Mosarz so she grew up in the atmosphere of fame her mother holding exhibits all over the world. So it must be the reason Sara wanted Angelina to have a normal childhood, of course it was never to be, by the time Angelina was a teenager she had already: written a book ( youngest published author in Norway) traveled the world doing concerts and shows raising millions for different charities and causes, sang for Royalty, Prime Minister’s , former presidents and celebrities. Angelina’s mother and her uncle Mike (manager) both grew up in Japan, and because of their mother’s fame were very aware of the difficulties involved with fame, therefore able to somewhat take control of the situation, turning down many offers from record companies even Disney after Angelina had won Norway’s got talent. I guess what it all boils down to Angelina was fortunate enough to be born into a family that new how to handle fame. Angelina was born to sing I can’t think of another way to put it, her grandmother Mery instilled in her the love of Jazz and her humanitarianism Mery for years has been holding art exhibits all over the world for different charities. When you think about it Angelina was born with an exceptional voice and an exceptional family the Astar family have been giving back for many years.

@5:04, when she was 4 I believe, she was going to a performance and it was a cold,winter night and there was a little girl (and her family)that was poor and Angelina asked her why she had no shoes on in the cold, she told her that she didn't have any..so Angelina gave her hers, and she has since performed with no shoes on as a reminder of the needy children 😢❤

She is always barefoot when performing. She talked to a poor shoeless person and gave her this persons shoes. She has always been a generous, caring person, even as a small child. Major contributions to childrens hospitals, etc. she's awesome.

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
