Julie London originally sang this. It was written especially for Julie by her childhood friend Arthur Hamilton. It is sung by Julie in a lush, bluesy style. When first heard by fellow colleagues in radio and music it received an instantaneous and enthusiastic response. As a result, Liberty Records released it as a single in 1955 catapulting Julie to instant success as a singer. Julie went on to a successful recording (32 albums primarily as a "torch" singer) and acting career including several movies and appearing for several seasons on the American television series "Emergency" (1972-1978) as nurse Dixie McCall. She was married to costar Bobby Toup (Jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, actor) for 40 years (1959-1999). He passed away in 1999 at 80 and Julie a year later at 74. They had 3 children. Julie's parents were a vaudeville song and dance act who debuted Julie's singing talent at age 3 on their radio show. Julie and her mom loved Billie Holiday who greatly influenced Julie's singing. Julie began singing professionally in Los Angeles nightclubs at age 14 (1940) until her true age was discovered. Her first movie was in 1944 and she also modeled for Esquire magazine during WWII and became a much sought after pinup girl by G.I.s. Amazing how parts of her career aren't that different from Angelina's. Julie was always described by those around her as sweet, happy and a bit shy. She rarely granted interviews. Thanks for your continuing support of and reactions to Angelina.

This is such a great version of this song. She does another version the next year with a full orchestra. It is also great, but different than this one. The thing you mentioned how she just blended into the pitch instruments. She does that often. Her pitch is so perfect that sometimes when she as she finishes a note it just melts right into the instruments. Also... when she was looking at the ground at the end.... if you look closely, you will see that she has her whole set laid out on the ground across the stage. She is probably looking down to see the next song ;)

Finally, my number one in this concert! A rare, so rare gem! Especially when the Mr Trombone solo comes in so in tune with Angelina's bluesy tone that it seems that they both are individualized in one: that is what we called pure jazz. And the applause of the audience attests to that. You got it, HAP, you got the secret of the magic of jazz right there! At the end, for her look on the floor, all her papers for her songs are spread as reminders to guide her. Look at the 0:53 mark.

Music is a strange vice. I remember my nieces asking me about music years ago. They were playing their latest top track Coolio's Gangsta Paradise. Their jaws dropped when I said I preferred the original Stevie Wonder version, which I then played! There is very little in the way of "new" popular music. Angelina's performance brings new life to these classic songs, which I hope introduces them to this generation existing in mostly mediocre offerings. Waiting for your Queen by Angelina reactions. Like your style man...

Just listen to that trombone as it's _crying a river_ The interaction between Angelina and Sigurd Evensen (trombone) is magic. The way they weave the web of music together, alternating and filing the empty spaces thread by thread .... . It's just one of those moments when the sum is more than adding up the individual components. btw, the song was written by *_Arthur Hamilton_* in 1953 and the first official release in 1955 was sung by Julie London.

Nice reaction, "Cry Me a River" was first released in 1955, with the voice of Julie London. This is definitely a much more jazz version of this classic with an band that Angelina played with in concerts that summer. Angelina is truly extraordinary for the vocal quality of her warm and slow voice, it is an extraordinary performance with a very nice interaction between Angelina's voice and the band's instruments create a real jam session with Angelina at the center. If you prefer a version with a different sound you can listen to the concert with the Military Band, the next year, that is the same with she register the version of this song on his album "It's Magic" kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJ2CycyfosaXlLQ.html
