FYI, she will NEVER not be barefoot in OFFICIAL LIVE PREFORMANCES, in practice sessions, partial snippets, partial previews etc. she has on her VAST array of footwear of which she is very fond of. This song is going to be HUGE! She absolutely RIPS this song!

She's not barefoot because this is not her show. She was a guest and performed 2 songs for/with Toby. In her vids and/or concerts, she is barefoot and reaffirmed that she will always do that during her Vegas show. He said this would be released in a few months. ---- Was an impromptu performance (I believe, her and Toby were not listed on the original show billing) and thus more like a rehearsal where Angelina has never not worn footwear ---- Also, the venue is a famous music venue, that is 21+, and the show started at 11 PM PST (I believe Angelina and Toby performed significantly past the start of the show). I have been to similar places on the East Coast that had a posted appropriate attire requirement (that stated no open toe sandals nor being barefoot) at the entrance ---- What is amusing is that by ordinance, The Hotel Café is a 21+ only establishment. Yet Angelina at 18-years old was allowed in and performed. How was that possible given that The Hotel Café could be fined for having an under 21 person inside the venue? Obviously the patrons trying to get in are carded, and anyone not 21 or older is restricted from coming in (unless one had a really good fake ID and looked old enough to pass for 21+). I have never heard of the musicians being carded at the stage entrance in the back of a venue. And Angelina came in with Toby, the celloist, and the violinist, all of whom where obviously 21+. And Angelina is tall and does look to be in her 20's. Plus, The Hotel Café probably knew little about her, meaning they maybe had no idea how old she was, and given an impromptu performance, never bothered to check. Or even if The Hotel Café management knew her age, they were going to let it slide even though technically they could get slapped with a fine, because it was Toby Gad

---- Again, The Hotel Café DOES NOT serve food, only drinks. This is plainly stated on their website under the FAQ section ---- Again, with few exceptions, there is NO Federal, State, nor local law that prohibits going barefoot in a supermarket, a mall, a restaurant, or other venue. There are some ordinances for certain government buildings that bare feet are not allowed, but that is about it in the US. There are also some ordinances on some primarily East Coast venues for no bare feet. However, a venue is not restricted from making its own rules on bare feet (just like they can for one's wearing attire where there is also no Federal, State, nor local law on what is appropriate to wear, only for not being naked in public). Note that it is nowhere stated on The Hotel Café website if there is a no bare feet restriction. It is more likely that the venue has a wearing attire requirement posted at the venue that includes wearing appropriate footwear (i.e., no open toe sandals nor being barefoot). So Angelina abided by that restriction so as not to cause any grumblings with the audience members. ---- Again, note that by ordinance, The Hotel Café is a 21+ establishment. Presumably the management did not know that Angelina was not 21+ as she probably came into the venue through the back stage entrance with Toby, the celloist, and violinist. Angelina does look to be in her 20's, and it probably is not policy to card any of the musicians. They would card people coming into the venue as audience members and restrict anyone under 21 from entrance. So a combination of fortunate circumstances allowed Angelina to skirt under the 21+ ordinance restriction at The Hotel Café

What an amazing song just love to listen to Angelina Jordan

When Angelina started singing this song my first thought was "she did a similar unexpected' full throttle' start when she was 12: "It is a man's world". And what a amazing song this is. And I think with this song Angelina is saying 'goodbye' to her 10 year long childhood career and 'here I am' to her adult career (how many 18 year old can make such a statement?). However, just a few days ago British singer Lucy Thomas (she is 20) did release her rendition of "Unchained Melody". You can not compare Lucy with Angelina as it she performs a complete different genre. To me in her genre Lucy is as gifted as Angelina is in hers. But.... I am sure when you react on this song you will be as surprised as on this new song from Angelina.

Wow. I hear more facets of the complexity each time I listen. Just good. So good.

The video actually came from the livestream which means the audio is from the mix so we really are treated with a crisp audio and multi angle cam. James got the permission from Toby Gad to publish the performances from this gig. Angelina now has 2 unreleased songs that are potential chart toppers... Bad Valentine and Princess of Ruins. I hope the official releases of both songs are near.😉

Nice comment poolhallshark. I think you and I have shared the same experience. When we first discovered Angelina Jordan (you, a couple years sooner than I), we wanted the whole world to discover her - immediately! As we got to know Angelina better, we realized and supported her family’s desire to go slow, and ensure that Angelina had as normal a childhood as possible. As she approached the age of eighteen (legally becoming an adult) we were always hopeful that her “next big hit” would send her career to the stratosphere. Now as she is professionally on her own, I have become less anxious as to when it (the worldwide discovery of AJ) happens, although it’s going to happen REAL soon. I am cherishing these heady days for Angelina. The excitement is palpable (the “waitening”), but soon (too soon, really) there will be thousands of people competing for front row seats to her concerts, and seeing her perform at huge venues will mean bringing binoculars to get a good glimpse of her. 🥲 Let’s enjoy these wonderful times while we can. 💛💛🫶💛💛👣

Yeah, some people are focusing on her feet aren't they? LOL It's not the first time where she wore shoes for a performance. It's probably because of the venue's own rules/policy in regards to dressing attire. When she was a debutante and performer at Le Bal in Paris, France, she had to wear shoes when she sang. For places that serve drinks and food, there really isn't any state or federal laws about being bare feet. On a more personal level, my family owned a restaurant for many years and we had a number of family friends that owned restaurants and the only thing we used and practiced was the No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service rule restaurants had at the time. Again, there weren't any laws that enforced this, it was just something each place practiced and did. It was a venue rule more about dressing attire than anything else. If Angelina can sing bare feet at a venue, she will. As for the song, I love Bad Valentine! I can't stop listening to it. This collaboration with Toby Gad looks like they will be creating a lot of great music!

Sometimes I wonder if people expect her to go through her everyday life without shoes on! Regarding why she isn't barefoot: two possibilities come to mind, first, it may be that the venue wouldn't allow it; second, she may feel singing barefoot would make it too much an "Angelina" performance rather than a "Toby" thing...

---- Congrats on stating that it is a venue restriction ---- Since this is a 21+ and small venue (i.e., Main Stage seats ~200 and the Second Stage seats ~85) that is quite famous for its music, they most likely have a posted attire requirement that includes appropriate footwear (i.e., no open toe sandals nor being barefoot). Given that Angelina has been barefoot for all other performances with Toby, it would seem unlikely that she wore footwear because it would distract attention away from Toby ---- This performance was during the Jesse & Friends show that is specifically intended for songwriters with up-and-coming artists of some repute. Angelina happens to be both. And Toby is a mega songwriter/producer who would be very well known. Angelina would not dull his light by being barefoot. In reality, Angelina's light is brightened by Toby saying they are working together on new material as Toby carries significant weight in the music industry

The instrumentation was just beautiful...love those strings. There are so many supers to this pre-release. A jazzy song and production that was meant for Angelina. Her voice, as usual, just amazing, finally letting 'er rip. Her belting here was otherworldly! Bodes well for the year, for her fans, for anyone who loves good music. Grammys coming. I agree 100%. The more I look at this team the more excited I get. I like many had no idea who Toby Gad is. I learned about him after her first performance with him. Another Powerhouse Writer Producer who has worked with only the best of the Industry past and present. Diane Warren another legend visited with Angelina but little came of it. This is very different than that. Angelina and Toby have declared they are working on original material together that they hinted would be available this fall. We are all of course hoping is the long-awaited Album. Some predictions in the past have failed to materialize as predicted. Let's hope this is not the same. And I've been thinking about the timing which would be brilliant. Many have mentioned a release in September would be late to qualify for this year’s Grammys. What if that is the plan. We already have two Grammy worthy releases with 'If I Were a Boy' and 'Bad Valentine out right now which will be eligible this year. Produced and performed by two powerhouse singer/songwriters/producers in Angelina and Toby. All of the songs on the album would be eligible for the following year's Grammys. At least in this scenario. If one or both songs win a Grammy think about the runway that would have for a Full year and from the very same powerhouse duo. Having already won they will both be well known by then having already won the Grammy(s). All of those new songs from the new album will be eligible for those Grammys. Hey Carl! I didn't take offence 🤔 I'm actually glad you pointed that out, in my mind, I was doing quite a few videos, but I guess some went to my main channel, others came here and when I checked, I saw that it had been 1 month since the last tiktok video 🫣 I want to keep doing Angelina videos, especially in this crucial period where I think she will pump out new songs with Toby. Thanks for reminding me. Sometimes, my mind is full, and I lose track of which videos I have scheduled. Maybe you should have checked their website which plainly states this under its FAQ section ---- And even if they did serve food, there are virtually no Federal, State, nor local laws restricting patrons of a supermarket, mall, restaurant, or any other venue from being barefoot. For kitchen workers there are restrictions, but more for OSHA safety reasons of dangerous things hitting and injuring a bare foot ---- However, venues are allowed to set attire requirements. And with The Hotel Café being a famous music venue with a 21+ requirement, a proper attire requirement (that includes that one must have appropriate footwear and not be barefoot) is most likely posted at the patron entrance, and enforced. I have been to multiple music venues with such a posted attire restriction

Jeepers Paul...you're really perplexed about no shoes on Angelina's feet!!😂😂😂😂 Okay, so let's first into consideration she's at a club, where Tod is appearing; small intimate setting. Angelina is dressed (I gotta say here she's looking totally COOL in what she's wearing) as if she plans on hanging out somewhere else but intents to keep things casual...one outfit, no changes, so, not really a concert OR a full program with her performing. He advertises HIS get together he's planning, she just showcased A song on which they collaborated...might be one of her OFFICIAL breakout release singles...who knows, but that's what I think happened...she wasn't thinking of this as a PERFORMANCE, just a one song gig...And SHE rocked it!! This wasn't her show; it was Toby Gad's, and she went up on stage for a quick, non-rehearsed performance of "If I Were a Boy," which was a song she later sang in London, and then she also sang the unreleased song, "Bad Valentine," where were both like a rehearsal for her. She basically said that for every one of her actual performances, she’d be shoeless. If you look at all her rehearsals on Grandma Mery’s Mosarz KZread channel, she has different pairs of shoes on for all the rehearsal pieces. She just doesn’t take her shoes off for all her performances, just her actual show or performances. If you look at her in her London Palladium performance or her church performance of "If I Were a Boy," she has her shoes off because she's performing for the public. Now, you're actually talking about the James Thiel production of "Bad Valentine," where he wrote the great text on screen, got the audio from Toby Gad, or he may have used the audio from the The Hotel Cafe recording; either way, he also made the video look really professional, even with different shots. Well, that's because of the wonderful James Thiel, and I'm sure there are other angels who know how to do magic with video editors as Angelina Jordan gets more and more fans. Look at the same video on HS-ol4zl’s KZread channel, and you'll see the difference. This was an unreleased song. She actually has the soon-to-be-released song "Princess of Ruin" in Las Vegas, explaining why she doesn't wear shoes for her performances. Oh, of course, there maybe CA venue rules as well, especially for a couple of unrehearsed songs. If she was actually doing a performance there, I'm sure she would work out some sort of take-her-shoes-off deal with The Hotel Cafe. ❤

She also wore shoes at Le Bal. So not a hard and fast rule she follows. Others above have passed on a few of the theories. One of mine is that this was more like a (epic!) rehearsal, for the performance they did together just a few days later at the London Palladium, of If I Were a Boy - where she WAS barefoot.

There were more known occurrences, e.g. at the opening of Mery's art exhibition in Nov. 2013, at the VAD Festival on Dec 1st 2013, at Mathias Sorum's birthday party in Nov 2023, and at Le Bal Paris, a couple days later. The common theme of all of these is, that she wasn't the main attraction of the evening, but there are of course numerous events where that wasn't the case either, but were she was still barefeet. So that might be coincidence. I'd simply assume that she has a best effort approach to that, with practical considerations playing a role, and that she is not nearly as religious about it as some of her fans seem to be.
