Angela Lansbury sings "I Don't Want to Know" from DEAR WORLD (1973)
An excerpt from the February 9 episode of the Julie Andrews Show, in which Dame Angela Lansbury and Steve Lawrence were guests, along with Rich Little. In this portion of the show, where the three discuss their careers in the theatre, Dame Lansbury talks about Dear World, and the song that replaced another one which was cut. Taken form the master tapes.

One of my favorite songs. I can't imagine anyone singing it better.
Superb phrasing and vocal control. Great lyrics and poignant melody.
And she does that sitting down. That's talent.

if only we had her performance in Mame on film.. The joy. To think she wasn't in the movie is tragic.
I had the true honor of seeing Ms Lansbury perform in person. A night I will never forget.

Thank you Donna Murphy for adding another great Angela gem to Encores after Anyone Can Whistle, having also won the Tony for The King and I which Angela had done in 1978.

I saw her also! She was terrific. I was mesmerized at the end of some of the tunes that were so knock em dead!
Marvelous performance of a great song. I love Herman's ability to have captured that French sound in his music. It's remarkable. As for the song, I'm feeling increasing rapport with it as America collapses.

Indeed, Mr Herman beautifully coalesced the Parisian sound with that of Broadway, and, as always, his songs hold up as socially relevant.
What an Awesome performance!!! Thank you soooo much for posting this She was 48 here - her tone So clear and clean, So *filled* with passion. What a Lady! 😎😎😎

what a hauntingly beautiful song sung by the GOAT entertainer
I saw this when it was broadcast on tv. My sister & I were big fans of Bedknobs & Broomsticks, so we tuned in because of Angela Lansbury's appearance, even though I wouldn't ever hear anything further about the show Dear World for several decades. Song was still very nice, even if abbreviated (and they had her sing from her interview couch, unaccountably...!). Good to see this clip again after such a long time.

Fascinating to hear of someone who saw it when it originally aired! I liked the whicker seat, she looks very majestic.

@@FolliesFan-yu8mf I agree, Angela looks comfortable & the setting is charming, especially as we see the undivided attention she receives from the others. It just seemed like an unusual direction - but still wonderful to see the star singing one of her many signature songs so beautifully.
This is just priceless!! I’ve heard about this clip in a recent chat and it’s great! Thanks for sharing!!!
I saw Ms Lansbury in Gypsy. She was, of course, fabulous, but the most remarkable part was that she made one understand why Herbie would put up with Rose for so long.
Its hard to project like that sitting down, but I guess if you can get your voice to fill a theater 5 nights a week without a microphone attached to your ear...

@@leahsantavicca5323 How wonderful! I cannot even imagine how amazing that must have been. I consider Mame the most foolproof musical to produce - memorable score, nothing too risqué so even high school productions are terrific - and the cast album kept my own spirits up during some difficult middle and high school days. If there is one performance I wish I could see on film it would be Angela and the original cast. Saw her in Blithe Spirit, still dazzling at age 90, but she will always be my Moon Lady.
Problems can't be fixed if they're not acknowledged. Maybe that was the point, idk.
amazing hearing her accent before Murder She Wrote
If the song was cut why did it appear on the cast recording, yet A Sensible Woman was not

Perhaps I wasn't clear; "A Sensible Woman" was cut and replaced by this.
