Angela Lansbury awarded by the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles.

Музыка

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles made history in Moscow, the first openly gay event ever to play there. One year earlier, Angela Lansbury kicked off the fundraiser that sent GMCLA to Russia, "Let's Hear It For The Boys," on October 10, 1998, when the chorus honored Ms. Lansbury onstage. Here's her acceptance event. (The stage sequence started with 2 1/2 minutes of movie clips. That's where this video starts . . . )

Thrilled to have been alive when she was. The way she will be remembered needs no additions, it is all true. The real thing.

I remember dear Marty Holmes. The creation of an award in his name couldn't be more fitting, and to see it here, presented for the first time to the wonderful Angela Lansbury, is a real joy. Thanks to GMCLA from a former chorine!

There are lots of these kinds of things where they sing Mame but they're really talking about Angela herself.

yGreat montage of scenes from her film and TV work. edited by my friend Mike Lonzo. I love how Angela acknowledges everyone in that chorus line. She was a truly gracious lady.

She always had an amazing smile and seemed kind and concerned about people. I still watch "Murder She Wrote", as I find today's TV shows horrible.

Like barbra and liza, she too is a gay icon.but why is it that i've never seen or heard of an angela gay impersonator?

I guess Angie was too down to earth to impersonate. Not wanting to be the center of attention, scandal free, devoid of too much glitz. She could have been the nice lady from next door who would have us over for a coffee and a chat. I have a feeling this is what separates this gay icon from many others.

There was no one like Angela Lansbury. Grand lady. It’s a good thing the chorus went there before Putin. Or they’d all be in prison now.

Thanks. Actually, we never would have received the visas to get us into the country. We weren't about to change our name. Instead, our concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg were the first time that the "G-word" was spelled out in public anywhere in Russia! The Moscow Mayor told the press at our concert that "Gai" was now a part of the Russian vocabulary.
