Off the top of my head, times when full auto would be appropriate/preferred: -area suppression/beaten zone with an actual MG -fleeting crossing targets -ambushes and/or react to contact at close range It would actually depend din on the situation and ttps; example sir sa naval special warfare(Seals) yung IAD nila sa meeting engagement in dense terrain(jungle example) scenario from a file formation, point man would immediately deliver suppressive fire (traverse) at peel back sila, usually they would dump a mag for the entire purpose is to suppress, subsequently once makakita sila ng good cover and concealment position, they would reorganize into a skirmishing line to focus fire sa harap at this stage depende na sa patrol leader if mag break contact ba sila or conduct an assault. Pero para sa akin sir kailangan talaga bihasa yung tropa sa mga different classes of fire in relationship to target/ground kasi nakapaka importante nun especially it would also make them consider ang effect ng mga bala galing sa kalaban sa kanila. Pero kung wala namang rason mag full auto tapos bigla lang napa enkwentro ah ayun nerbyoso 😆. Madami talaga application ang auto fire kung pag aralan talaga natin, kasi hindi yan practically limited to MG lang at depende na talga sa situation at ttps like for IADS, active air def and much more.

Sa context ng COIN operations, it is not adviseable to "spray and pray" because we don't want to apply maximum amount of force when confronting fellow Filipinos. In contrast, American military culture is consistent with its principles e.g. fire superiority. As an expeditionary force fighting outside US soil, this is applicable. You are right about suppression fire during enemy contact. It is achieved by employing different weapon systems e.g. SAW, GPMG, and rifles purposely to keep enemy heads low or to destroy him; and, to facilitate maneuver of troops.

If its at the competition level, its gonna get way faster. Imagine elite SF units go at it as well with faster reflexes and cqb trained shooting. Good reason why Semi auto fire has remained standard even today in infantry combat is because of sustaining fire is important because you are not always gonna get resupplied in the battlefield and you are gonna fire that rifle a lot when you get shot at where its difficult to see the target far away and in cover, you just fire back at the enemy's general direction to suppress and you dont even know if it hits so its just more wasteful in full auto mode. You dont want to go to ask your friends to share their magazines with you because you keep going full auto. Semi auto more consistent. Btw I learned this from a video game called Arma 2, a military simulator sandbox game, showed me how real combat differs so much from modern entertainment.
