Andy Wood series "The Woodshed" Episode 14 - An introduction to intervals and intervallic thinking.

Музыка

Hello music lovers! So ive seen the feedback and wanted to do an episode aimed at an introduction to intervals. I don't want anyone of any skill level to feel left out here at the shed, and if you struggle understanding intervals hopefully this will help. Thinking in intervals has helped open up the fretboard for me, and im trying here to pass along that way of thinking to you guys! Crispy high fives to each one of you, let me know in the comments what you'd like to see next on The Woodshed!

Thank you for the lesson. I learned by ear and didnt discover any theory until later in life. Young players should really pay attention to these kinds of lessons. It will save a lot of wasted time. Thanks man

What a good explanation. Last time I caught a similarly explained fundamental aspect of applied music theory, it was Steve Vai. You guys are giants, with the generosity of spirit to share your "ABCs" with the rest of us. Thank you!

Not trying to tell ya what to do ..but if you Take yer 5 major chord shapes and learn who is who...Tonic, Major 3rd..minor 3rd...5th...Major 7th... minor 7th...6th and flat 6th...ect.... when you do this for the 5 Chord Shapes you learn in groups of 3 strings ... E-A-D....A-D-G....D-G-B...G-B-E...so no matter where yer hands are ...you should have Chord tones somewhere within reach

I can't remember any instructor mentioning that 9, 11, 13 is in another octave. It may be obvious, you maybe could figure it out by yourself, but nobody ever put it out so understandable to me. Such an awesome hint, just brillant to explain it that way. Big thumbs up!

Hi Andy!!Thanks for this great lesson!!Now please consider explaining Eric Johnson's Mini lesson #2 (if you can call it "mini")!He speaks of note names which i think it`s much harder to think of than intervals. All this improv he does on chord tones is mind boggling! Please help us!! :) All the best to you!!

Andy, really like your playing. Subbed your channel few weeks back. A very cool book - Intervallic Designs by Joe Diorio. Gonna date myself there, but looks like it may still be available and free now? I haven't thought about that book in maybe 30+ years. Memory brings a smile. Just wanted to share that here with your viewers on this subject. I got a feeling following lessons r headed in such a direction too here with you. Not specifically the book but types of things in it. U r one of those players I get caught wanting to see what the hands r doing. It's gone behind holy cow that was musical too stop I need see this too.

Made the jump to the Caged System about 6 months ago...gotta say I am way more Melodic than i used to be...when i play i look for Chord tones now...instead of sounding so Modal or Scale oriented ... I was watching Guthrie Trap at the time...but all of these great players are doing it...in the long run it seems way better to know your Intervals than memorizing Shapes

Andy I guessed my way through learning harmony and chord construction, I would spend Hours trying to figure out Allman Brothers Harmony parts, like all night long, until I finally, had my guitar instructor, kick me in the butt and said Quit Guessing, Learn your intervals, when I did, it was like a light came on, like when Wizard of OZ, turned into technicolor, I thought why in hell did I not learn this years ago. Thanks buddy,
