The claim has been that the umpire can get out of the chair and look at the mark in the clay. The greatest counterargument that I've seen to that claim is all the times I've seen players arguing with the umpire about which mark to look at.

hawkeye doesnt really work on clay like it does on other surfaces, the clay makes it harder for a correct read so they say its not 100% trustworthy

@@zuziiiiiiiiii But why? Hawkeye calculates where the ball will land before it even does, so I can't see why clay changes the accuracy.

@@zuziiiiiiiiii while Hawkeye might be the only system that automatically makes calls (I say might because I haven't checked) there are other systems that can at least be used for challenges.

Hawkeye showed clearly, so! Still, there are people booing which is even worse!

This makes no sense, the replay shows that its out, why argue about it rather than looking at the clear evidence that shows its out???

And that was the exact moment Andy Murray lost all respect for Tsitsipas.

The way they show the electronic replay on TV and everyone at home immediately sees how off the umpire is. You'd think the umpires would want this taken out of their hands to avoid the shame.

Andy Murray would only argue if he truly believed he was right, the guy has the most integrity on the ATP tour. Funny how his opponent is also Italian.

Yeah when I saw this live I couldn't quite understand the umpires point of view, the ball came at a trajectory where his claim that it skidded off the line which caused separation was all but impossible, and his major point of "I saw it and the line judge saw it the same" is just asinine, I mean maybe on hard court that runs but on clay the whole reason there isn't hawkeye is because of the mark, if you're going to base it off what you see from the umpire chair then you're basically treating it exactly like hard court just without hawkeye, marks are there for a reason and any logical person would have awarded Murray the point, now would it have flipped the match around? who knows, but I think this just adds to the spreadsheet of reasons all clay tennis needs hawkeye, like Madrid.

It wasn't impossible at all. The ball came cross court. It could have just barely touched the line. Remember, the chair has to be positive before over-ruling the line judge. If it could go either way, he must stick with the judge.

Big momentum change if this was correctly called Murray would have gone on to win the Rome masters without dropping a single point

Happened again today with Djokovic's ball wrongly called in and Rune even referenced this match. I've always respected Lahyani and ofc umpires can make human mistakes too, but twice in the same tournament ain't a great look

Since the whole Kyrgios "pep talk" debacle, Lahyani has lost credibility.

And this was the moment Andy Murray decided the umpire was adopted and could never overcome the feeling of abandonment, with no true father to guide him, so Andy forgave him and went directly to the pagoda to pray for his well being.

Hawk-Eye Innovations is in contact with the major clay and grass court tennis organizers. They have refused based on superficial grounds of "tradition". Here in the United States and North America, the USTA has wholeheartedly embraced their technology and it's resulted in players loving the system and none of these disputes.
